We also ask that you sign one of our Friendship Registers which are located in each of the pews. Please come and worship with us again! Our Worship Service Morning Praise Christian Worship pg. 45 WELCOME Please Stand OPENING HYMN... To Your Temple I Draw Near Christian Worship #226 1 Hymn continues on next page 2

Please be Seated OH, COME, LET US SING TO THE LORD FIRST LESSON... Jeremiah 11:18-20 Jeremiah continued to preach God s Word to a people that rejected him and so imitated the self-sacrificing love of the Lord. 18 Because the LORD revealed their plot to me, I knew it, for at that time he showed me what they were doing. 19 I had been like a gentle lamb led to the slaughter; I did not realize that they had plotted against me, saying, "Let us destroy the tree and its fruit; let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name be remembered no more." 20 But, O LORD Almighty, you who judge righteously and test the heart and mind, let me see your vengeance upon them, for to you I have committed my cause. 3 4

PSALM OF THE DAY...Psalm 31 Christian Worship pg. 77 SECOND LESSON...James 3:13-18 As the devil peddles envy and selfish ambition in this world, James reminds us that true wisdom comes from following the example of Christ and his ways of humility and peace. 13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. 14 But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. 15 Such "wisdom" does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, of the devil. 16 For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice. 17 But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. 18 Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness. In you, O Lord, I have taken 'refuge;* deliver me in your 'righteousness. Be my rock of 'refuge,* a strong fortress to 'save me. Into your hands I commit my 'spirit;* redeem me, O Lord, the 'God of truth. Refrain My times are 'in your hands;* save me in your un'failing love. How great is your 'goodness,* which you have stored up for those who 'fear you. You heard my cry for 'mercy* when I called to 'you for help. Glory be to the Father and 'to the Son* and to the Holy 'Spirit, as it was in the be'ginning,* is now, and will be forever. 'Amen. Refrain 5 VERSE OF THE DAY Alleluia. My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Alleluia. (2 Corinthians 12:9a) Please stand GOSPEL LESSON... Mark 9:30-37 When Jesus mentioned his upcoming suffering and death, all his disciples could think about were themselves, arguing about their greatness. Jesus reminded them that greatness comes not from promotion of oneself but through self-sacrifice and service to others. 30 They left that place and passed through Galilee. Jesus did not want anyone to know where they were, 31 because he was teaching his disciples. He said to them, "The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of men. They will kill him, and after three days he will rise." 32 But they did not understand what he meant and were afraid to ask him about it. 33 They came to Capernaum. When he was in the house, he asked them, "What were you arguing about on the road?" 34 But they kept quiet because on the way they had argued about who was the greatest. 35 Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, "If anyone wants to be first, he must be the very last, and the servant of all." 36 He took a little child and had him stand among them. Taking him in his arms, he said to them, 37 "Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me." M: Come, Holy Spirit! Fill the hearts of your faithful people, and kindle in us the fire of your love. Alleluia! Please be Seated 6
