Police arrested the three men, including the cab driver Venkatesan (a resident of Jafferkhanpet) and booked them under the Tamilnadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act. According to the police, the doctor had gone to visit a friend on East Coast Road. Since she had night duty, she booked an Ola cab to reach the hospital at around 7 p.m. Venkatesan picked her up and when the vehicle reached VGP Peace Temple on East Coast Road, the driver stopped and two men entered the back seat from two sides even as she protested. The doctor panicked and immediately called a friend who alerted the police control room in Neelankarai. The doctor later told the Neelankarai police that the men misbehaved with her. The doctor began shouting and demanded that the driver stop the car, but he paid no heed. Meanwhile, the driver of another car overtaking the cab heard her screams and managed to intercept the vehicle near Neelankarai. Soon, police arrived on the scene and caught hold of the driver. LETTER TO THE EDITOR No protection for pedestrians Sir, Corporation has taken up the work of constructing storm water drain along the service lane of Bazullah Road under the Y-shaped flyover. Due to this the carriageway has been reduced by 50% and only cars and 2-wheelers can ply through it. Corporation has placed barricades on the construction side to warn motorists. But there is no protection for pedestrians who are forced to walk in the narrowed service lane amidst the vehicles thereby risking their lives. I appeal to the authorities concerned to barricade a 1 foot stretch on the opposite road margin for the exclusive use of pedestrians. R. Sivaraman, Arulambal Street, off Bazullah Road, T. Nagar Boy helps parents push cart in subway By Our Staff Reporter A boy was seen helping his parents push a tricycle cart loaded with tender coconuts up the slope of Duraisamy subway, T. Police recovered 23 bikes from him. He is a BCA student in a city college. K. Shanmugam Salai, K. K. Nagar. According to nearby residents, the work, which was to have been competed in a month, has been dragging for more than three months and is still a long way from completion. The stretch is badly damaged and causes traffic jams during peak hours. Similarly, Metrowater has been carrying out repair works in the sewage and water lines in Thiruvalluvar Salai, Nesappakam for several weeks. Motorists and pedestrians have been put to hardship as the usable road width has narrowed and the surface has become slushy and slippery. They told Mambalam Times that the work is progressing at a slow pace and have appealed to the authorities concerned to complete the work at the earliest. The surface has been badly damaged and I hope that the Corporation relays the road as soon as Metrowater completes its work, said a motorist.
