TOR TERM OF REFERENCE MUHAMMADIYAH YOGYAKARTA INTERNATIONAL SUMMER SCHOOL 2012

BACKGROUND Start from high motivations of Muhammadiyah s students, International Relations major included in Corps of International Relations Students (KOMAHI) to make social-education programme for global foreign students. This programme is dedicated for everyone is in high favor to get involved in exchange programme. This activity is fully supported by lectures, bireaucracy, and all students of University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta. Hence, it is decided to create a short and internship programme, named Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta International Summer School. This activity is also in order to combine six divisions that exist in the current KOMAHI, named Networks and Cooperation Division, Interest and Talent Division, Division of Research, Division of Development Discourse, Student Press Division and the Division of Language and Cultures. Therefore, socio-educational activities in form of Summer School are very feasible to accomodate all ideas which are contained in these KOMAHI divisions. Since the summer period this year coincides with the month of July which is the time off students, especially students of HI (International Relations) UMY and KOMAHI UMY joined in, as well as to coincide with summer off to foreign students, so in this holiday period could be utilized hone skills International Relations of UMY that can be exploited to gain experience and insights, especially about Indonesia for global students who participated in MY ISS, because the concept of summer school itself contains formal and informal educational activities, social activities, and also to introduce Indonesian tourism activities especially D.I.Yogyakarta. The main topic of this activities are Exploring the Fabulous Indonesia, with subtopic, Islam Movement in Diversity of Indonesia. Those are thought as interesting discussion in the international world today, so it will be an important knowledges to be known throughout the world. Thus, this activity does not only have implications for the internal party committee of MY ISS itself, but also internal parties as foreign students as participants to be responsible for spreading the knowledges of the sub-topics which will be given and for great hope of success of this event can build an international network of countries of foreign students as participants in this MY ISS. Sub Topics Background Islam Movement In Diversity of Indonesia Indonesia is a country which has known rich for its diversity and difference. In addition, Indonesia is also known as one of the world's largest Muslim majority. Therefore, in Indonesia there are many Islamic movements that lead the people of Indonesia to become a good civil society. Basically, some Islamic movements in Indonesia have an important role in the history of Indonesia, because it has become one of the actors who helped fight the colonizer in earlier times, but it does not stop there, Islamic movements is still having important role in Indonesia like in the scope of politics, economics, socials, and others. Thus, in Indonesia Islamic movements are really have any influence on every policy.

Vision MY ISS is becoming a social-education activity that has international standard and the best at 2012. Mision Establishing a qualfied socio-cultural educations activity with formal and informal methods toward foreign under graduate students. The sub-topics of this event are disaster management, heritage of Indonesia and escalation of islamic understanding, thus can enhance the students knowledges within those sub-topics could enhance intenational networking toward participants origin countries. Participant Activities Students of Social and Political Sciences or Fresh Graduate who have interest in Indonesian culture from around the world. Targeted amount of participants to be achieved is 20 people with different quota limits from each Continent, with the following details: Continenent Quota of participants Europa 10 America 5 Asia 2 Australia 3 Total 20 * Quota is flexible, in case of a continent has not met the quota, while the total applicants have not reached 20 participants. Then the other continents can add their quota. Time and Place of Activity The event will be held on: July, 5 th 19 th 2012 And held at: The University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta and some of the area around D.I.Yogyakarta * Further details are in Annex I Form of Activities As the implementation of the plans of MY ISS, the activities are divided into two parts, the educational program and the non-educational program. Educational Program 1. Lecture A lecture activities with various materials relating to current disaster management and understanding between religious communities and are given by experts in their fields. In this activity participants will gain basic knowledge about the global issues that are focused and accumulated into the curriculum, the curriculum is structured and easily understood and can be applied in the studies in Indonesia. Such as the handling of disaster

management in Indonesia, and also religious tolerance in the people of Indonesia which is interesting to review and further discussed, these will bring a new understanding of global issues in Indonesia and it also means countermeasures that may be applied by the participants, so that the participants gain new understandings of the other side in indonesia. Non Educational Program 1. Welcoming Party Ceremony welcoming foreign students as an official student at MY ISS program. This event is focused on providing information about any event or program that will show what they are doing and get in this program. Facilitated by other events as the introduction of the culture of Indonesia. 2. International Night This is an event held to strengthen relationships between participants and organizers, is designed to show the existence of a live acoustic music and also by serving typical foods of Indonesia. 3. Traditional Dance and Music Course An activity which is to introduce and learn one of the Indonesian culture and art through the art of dance and music which will be featured at the end of the event, which is in the separational event or known as the Farewell Party. 4. Cultural Visit Is part of the non-educational program, a form of activity of strolling around while introducing the streets of the historic recreation and culture own by Yogyakarta. 5. Sosial Program A program to strengthen between the participants and the community by following the social activities, especially for the victims of the disasters. 6. Farewell Party The last activity conducted before participants return to their home countries, this activity is the separation between the participants and the committees, and are designed with a warm atmosphere with the intention of causing a sense of the memories of participants.
