FRIDAY SERMON 25 Muharram 1435H / 29 November 2013 COMPREHENSIVENESS OF ISLAM USTAZ IBRAHIM KHALIL BIN ABDULLAH Imam MASJID SULTAN ISMAIL UNIVERSITI TEKNOLOGI MALAYSIA
Dear brothers, may the blessings of Allah be upon you. Let us have taqwa to Allah SWT with true taqwa. Hopefully with trues taqwa and iman, we will be successful in this world and the hereafter.
Allah says in surah al-nisaa verse 59:
Which means: O you who have believed, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you. And if you disagree over anything, refer it to Allah and the Messenger, if you should believe in Allah and the Last Day. That is the best [way] and best in result.
Brothers in Islam, Allah says in Surah Ali-Imran verse 19 read earlier in the sermon, explaining the specialty of Islam compared to other religions, that it is the only religion accepted by Allah Ta'ala. Allah says in the Quran:
Indeed, the religion in the sight of Allah is Islam. And those who were given the Scripture did not differ except after knowledge had come to them - out of jealous animosity between themselves. And whoever disbelieves in the verses of Allah, then indeed, Allah is swift in [taking] account.
Islam that is mentioned in this verse according to the scholars of exegesis is a proper noun for a religion that was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).
But for the Pluralist, they interpret the word Islam here as submissive and succumb to god.
For them, those who bow down and succumb even from the Jews and Christians, can be considered Muslims.
It is absurd and bizarre interpretation contrary to the true tafseer.
The scholars of tafseer explained that the interpretation of Islam as proper name on another verse that is precise in Surah Ali Imran verse 85:
Which means: And whoever desires other than Islam as religion - never will it be accepted from him, and he, in the Hereafter, will be among the losers.
Imam Fakhruddin ar-razi in his book of interpretation, Tafseer Al-Fakru Razi said: In this verse many guidance have been given and doubts are removed about Islam. If they still disbelief because of their refusal to accept the truth, it is their own fault.
If they want to look at the evidence and guidance available to them, this would generate knowledge. Because of their evil (al-baghi) and malicious nature, they refused to believe and accept the truth.
Indeed, Islam has set certain things that remain the same and will never change until the Day of Judgment. Among them the true message brought by Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).
Imam Ghazali said that those who deny Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), are infidels who will be in hell after death.
He pointed out that there is some degree of falsehood: the first level, the highest are the lies committed by Jews, Christians and all religions from the Zoroastrians and pagans.
Thus their disbelief was clear in the Qur'an, and was presented to the Muslims.
Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was the leader of the Prophets and Messengers.
The difference between the position and role of Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) and the other messengers were significant.
If the other prophets were sent to their own people and at certain period of time, Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was sent to all nation till the end of time.
In other words, Ibn Taymiyah said the religion of Allah delivered by the prophets and apostles since Prophet Adam a.s to Prophet Jesus a.s. was initially very modest, which was appropriate to the needs of the nation at the time.
This religion was then perfected according to the circumstances and needs until the end of time.
During the time of Rasulullah (pbuh), Islam becomes complete and perfect so it does not need further additions and improvements.
Brothers in Islam, As a religion that emphasizes true faith, Muslims are the people that defend their belief firmly.
Yet at the same time we must be open and forgive the differences, as long as we do not go out of the principle of tawhid.
The scholars of Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaah assert we must not accuse any Muslim as infidel as long as they believe in Allah and His messenger, as long as he does not legalize the illegal and make haram the halal.
The scholars also agreed that a person is only referred to as infidel when he rejected the message brought by Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).
Therefore, Muslims should be more careful in sentencing misguided Muslims or saying infidel to one another.
Arbitrary action and judging others as infidels without a strong argument and extensive research can cause adverse consequences to oneself.
On this basis we need to unite together and cooperate in good faith and we do not cooperate in evil.
In keeping with the message of Islam, it is important that we as Muslims join hands to devote our energy to the sovereignty of religion, race and nation.
Hopefully as Allah says in Surah al- Fatihah verse 6 and 7, is the advice and guidance for all of us to build
