PHONE: (972) 562-2601 Chaplain (COL) Ret Austin Dale Moon October 9, 1934 - January 29, 2010 Chaplain (COL) Ret Austin Dale Moon, age 75, of McKinney, Texas, passed away January 29, 2010 in McKinney. Colonel Moon was born October 9, 1934, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Erbert and Margaret (Corzine). He married Mary Helen Matthews on August 18, 1956 in Mineola, Texas. Colonel Moon proudly served in the United States Army for twenty-seven years, retiring at Fort Hood, Texas, in 1994. Colonel Moon served in various American posts as well as Vietnam, Korea, and Germany. Chaplain Moon received the nation s Silver Star for heroism under fire. He is survived by his wife, Mary Helen Moon of McKinney, Texas; sons, Mark G. Moon and wife, Teresa of Flower Mound, Texas and Brian D. Moon and wife, Tracy of McKinney, Texas; grandchildren, Matthew Ryan Moon of Dallas, Texas, Courtney Moon of Flower Mound, Texas, Erin Moon, Erika Moon, and Sara Moon, all of McKinney, Texas; sister, Joan Finch of Shreveport, Louisiana; uncle, Fred Moon and wife, Doris; brother-in-law, Wade Matthews and wife, Rebekah of Temple, Texas; and numerous other loving nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 2, 2010, at First Baptist Church in McKinney, Texas. Interment will be held at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at Roselawn Cemetery in Mineola, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation from 6:00 8:00 p.m., Monday, at Turrentine- Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas. Dale and I had many good visits over the years when we would run into each other at the Harker Heights HEB and I will always treasure those greatly. Dale was a fine gentleman, a proud Baylor Bear, and a great soldier. It was an honor to wear the uniform with him and call him a friend.
