FEastof tabernacles SUKKOT CELEBRATION Celebrating God s Blessings and Faithfulness RECAP The Feast of Tabernacles weekend was held at Cornerstone Church October 24-26. It was three days of pure fun! Praise and worship to the King, life-changing sermons, carnival rides and food booths for all ages were just a few of the featured events on campus. The carnival was taking place outside while the sanctuary was saturated with the presence of the Holy Spirit. The music was spectacular from the very first note. Ricardo Sanchez and the praise team, The Hagees, Canton Junction and even our very own Pastor Hagee sang songs that made you feel as if all of heaven was leaning down to listen. Heaven surely rejoiced as they joined in this grand celebration! On Friday night, TD Jakes brought the crowd to their feet with a message that encouraged the audience to, Pray to move heaven, and heaven will move earth. Saturday evening, Pastor Matt said that he was asked by his father, Pastor Hagee, to preach for this year s Feast of Tabernacles celebration. When he took it to the Lord in prayer, God said, Make it count! And that was the title of his message. When we do something in this lifetime, we should make it count! Don t waste a day. It is God s gift to you. What you do with the day is your gift back to Him. Sunday morning, Pastor Hagee talked about the eternal love that God has for us. God doesn t TRY to love us. He can t help BUT love us! His love is like an ocean tide that knows no limits. Sunday night was the 33rd Annual Night to Honor Israel where Ambassador Ron Dermer applauded Pastor Hagee for the great work he does on behalf of Israel. Pastor Hagee, this is a night you honor Israel. But this should also be a night for Israel to honor you. It was a very heartfelt sentiment. Dennis Prager also spoke about his deep love for Israel and his appreciation for Pastor, and the night ended with financial gifts for many great causes throughout Israel. A sincere thank you to all of the staff and volunteers who worked tirelessly to make this event such a huge success! We would never be able to do the things at Cornerstone Church that we do without you. Cornerstone is great because God is our firm foundation, and our people are the very heart of this church. 4 CORNERSTONE MAGAZINE NOVEMBER 2014

RECAP Cornerstone Church hosted the 33rd Annual Night to Honor Israel on October 26th. Rabbi Scheinberg opened in prayer: Our Father in Heaven, thou who controlest the destinies of all men and in whose hand lies the fate of all nations, cast thy divine favor on America and her leaders. May this blessed land always remain a citadel of freedom, a watchtower of light and hope, one nation under God with liberty and justice for all. We ask thy blessings upon our beloved men and women who in this hour stand guard on battlefields throughout the world, dedicated to the defense, security and freedom of the American people. We thank thee for the many miracles we have witnessed in our time, the revival and resurrection of the Jewish people in their ancient homeland where they profess the same faith and speak the same language as their Biblical ancestors. May we see a united world under thy rule of love and peace for all mankind. Amen. Many dignitaries and rabbis from around the world came together to stand in solidarity with Israel, boldly proclaiming, Israel lives! Pastor Hagee opened with a brief introduction of the current state of affairs in Israel. If you are pro-israel, if you believe that Israel has the right to exist, if you believe that Israel has the right to defend itself when attacked, if you believe they have the right to secure their borders, will you give a shout that can be heard in Washington, D.C.? The crowd was instantly on their feet, clapping and shouting in complete agreement so moved that he had to ask them to stop clapping so he could get through the information and introduce the next speaker, Dennis Prager. Mr. Prager opened with, There are many wonderful traits in humans: integrity, kindness, compassion, honesty, devotion, loyalty. There s a large list. But the rarest by far, is courage. And the problem is that none of the others matter if there isn t courage. Pastor Hagee embodies courage. And he went on to tell the crowd, We Jews are not used to people liking us. We re used to being hated. We re so used to being hated that a lot of Jews don t believe why you re here. They can t believe that Christians are united for Israel. And indeed it was a night of great solidarity from start to finish. Ambassador Ron Dermer took the stage next and thanked Pastor Hagee for the invitation to participate in such an important evening. An Israeli ambassador feels right at home here. Pastor Hagee, this is a night you honor Israel. But this should also be a night for Israel to honor you. He went on to quote Mark 6:4, But Jesus said to them, A prophet is not without honor except in his own country, among his own relatives, and in his own house. So I came to tell the people of San Antonio how much the people of Israel appreciate what you have done for the state of Israel decade after decade. For the grand finale, Pastor Hagee handed out checks totaling more than $2.8 million dollars to the following Israeli charities: Afikim Family Enrichment Association, American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, Avukat Or, Bikur V Ezras Cholim, Forum for Christian Enlistment, Friends of the Israel Defense Forces, Heart of Benjamin, International Council of Young Israel, Israel Help and Education Center at Kiryat Gat, Jewish Agency for Israel, Just One Life, Kefar Tsevi Sitrin, Koby Mandell Foundation, Magen David Adom, Meir Panim, Nahal Haredi, Nefesh B Nefesh, Netanya Academic College, Ohr Torah Stone, Or L Doron, Save a Child s Heart, Shurat Hadin, Western Galilee Hospital, Women s International Zionist Organization, World ORT and Yad Vashem. Thank you to all who participated in this historic event, making it a night to remember! 6 CORNERSTONE MAGAZINE NOVEMBER 2014

Naomi & Ruth The choices you make say a lot about you as a person. Do you seek to return good for evil? Or do you live a life filled with anger and hostility? The sum of your choices can launch you into the stratosphere of being a world changer. And thus it was with Queen Esther. This young Jewish orphan won a beauty contest and married the king. By hosting a banquet, she saved her people from utter destruction. She chose victory over violence. Join the women of Naomi and Ruth for the 2014/15 Discipleship School and learn how to make choices that will literally shape your destiny. God has great things in store for you and this class can guide you toward your fullest potential, showing you how to seek God s plan for your life. Join the Women of Esther in the Life Center of Cornerstone Church for a delicious dinner and a time of sweet fellowship, followed by guest speakers teaching on practical subjects for women of every age. Each weekly session is open to women of all ages. 6:30 p.m. in the Life Center on the first Tuesday of each month $15 Childcare is provided For more information, please call 210-490-1669 Your Family Faith & the Holiday Season by Pastor Ruben Mendez As the Holiday season comes upon us, we often find ourselves under a lot of pressure to be something we aren t or to do something we can t. Because of this pressure, we make mistakes that create issues and circumstance that become even more stressful. Life has many twists and turns, but none more intense then when you are made to walk out your faith after a personal failure. Faith is nothing but a word until you begin to implement it in your life. It s not easy to make decisions under pressure. You affect those around you in a positive or negative way due to your own choices, some of which are life-changing for generations to come. During critical times, if you leave the outcome to God and continue walking in faith, He will help you finish the good work He has started. Peter failed miserably in denying the Lord; he wept bitterly. Yet Jesus encouraged Peter to continue walking out his faith. Thus, he was completely renewed by the power of the Holy Spirit, becoming the chief apostle. Abraham is another example. He should have been enjoying his latter years with the fulfilling of God s promise to him his son with Sarah, Isaac. Yet, Abraham had chosen to have another son with his servant, Ishmael. He hadn t waited for God s timing. And the actions of Ishmael often stole the joy of the moment. Be sure of this Bible principle we will reap what we sow. Because of past mistakes, we often face unsavory issues in our present. Do you feel as if your life is spinning out of control? Your family is out of order? The hope of your dream is now gone? Don t worry! God has a plan! The battle between the flesh and the spirit is intense (Galatians 4:29)! In the moment, things might not be easy, but if you choose to walk after the Spirit, he will enable you to walk in harmony with God. The flesh will lose its power over our lives if we continue walking with God. As a people we are weak beings. We must live by faith and not by sight. We must follow God s lead in our lives and be mindful of His timing. Our flesh is weak, but our God is mighty! God s delays are not denials. He is on time every time. Though the promise may tarry, it will come to pass. NOVEMBER 2014 CORNERSTONE MAGAZINE 9

At the end of each year, we host a Gathering of Givers at Cornerstone Church. This is an open forum for those who have given sacrificially throughout the previous year to come and learn about what the church has done with the funds, how we have grown, and how the financial gifts have helped to carry the Gospel literally around the world. Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and try Me now in this, says the Lord of hosts, If I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it. Malachi 3:10 Pastor Hagee teaches us to let go of what is in our hand for what is waiting in God s hand is far greater. He owns the cattle on a thousand hills and delights in our well-being. He is not the God of just enough, but the God of more than enough! The Gathering of Givers is a way to simply say thank you to those faithful friends and members who sow seeds of blessing into the ministry. This year s event was a blessing to all in attendance. How wonderful to gather together and see what God has allowed us to do, see how He has used us. We are blessed to be a blessing! 10 10 CORNERSTONE MAGAZINE NOVEMBER 2014 2014

Be a Part of Something EXCITING! We are thrilled to now offer Sunday morning services for high-school-only youth during both Sunday morning service times (8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.) in the Praise Center. This is a great change for the High School Ministry, as we are now able to offer two grade-specific services instead of one combined service with the Middle School Youth. Each Sunday, students can expect friendly smiles, heartfelt worship and powerful messages that will encourage and change their lives. With the addition of our new 8:30 a.m. service, we are in need of more volunteers to devote their time, passion and gifts to help us minister. Do you have a heart to build godly relationships with students, to impact their lives in a positive manner? If so, please consider joining our High School Ministry Volunteer Team so you can start assisting with our youth services, events, annual summer camps and more! How do you get connected? It s easy! All you have to do is attend one of our monthly LINK Volunteer Training Classes, held the second Sunday of each month at the Cornerstone Praise Center from 10:00 a.m. 10:50 a.m. Here you can learn about our mission, vision and expectations. You ll also learn about the different volunteer teams to see which might be a good fit for you. Our Ministry Teams include: the Hospitality Team, Usher Team, Social Media Team, Café Team, Drama Team, Multi-Media Team and Worship Team. Our next two LINK Volunteer Training Classes will take place on November 9th and December 14th. Please contact Pastor Nino Gonzalez at 210-499-1781 or at Luis.Gonzalez@sacornerstone.org for more information. This is your chance to be a part of something exciting. CORNERSTONE ON CAMPUS Take All the Gospel, to All the World. By Michael Fernandez One of the goals of the Young Adult Ministry is to reach out to the college students in San Antonio (and surrounding areas) with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We fulfill this mission through Cornerstone on Campus, a student-led ministry that hosts Bible studies and outreach programs on various college campuses. Cornerstone students are leading and hosting these officially-recognized student events under the direction of the College & Career Ministry at the following campuses: San Antonio College, St. Mary s University, The University of Texas at San Antonio and Northwest Vista. It s both refreshing and inspirational to see our young people ministering to these students, touching their young lives. Hearts are being won for Christ as students are realizing that Jesus is a friend that will never leave them nor forsake them. We also host outdoor rallies during the lunch hour and pass out free food, which always draws a crowd. This gives students one more opportunity to hear the Gospel and accept Christ as their Lord and Savior. special music before the evening message of Hope. We re so proud of our students who are willing to stand up and be heard, to proclaim their faith so publicly. We ask that you join us in prayer for all of our campus outreach events; may God continue to open doors for this ministry and bless these young people with His love. May His love be infused into their lives. These are the events that need specific prayer at this time: Cornerstone on Campus @ UTSA Cornerstone on Campus @ SAC Cornerstone on Campus @ NVC If you know any students that would like to join us for these events, please have them contact the College & Careers Department by calling 210-490-1600 or via email at collegeandcareer@sacornerstone.org. IN THE u.s. save on your favorites! JHM.org Great Christmas gifts! GOD S NOT MAD AT YOU! by Karen Park Sometimes I think we forget that God knows everything about us. Maybe He was keeping an eye on someone else and didn t see the wrong choice we made out of the desire to gratify our flesh. Then later we start feeling bad about those wrong choices. You want to pray but you can t get past those guilty feelings. Maybe you re thinking, God must be really mad at me because of how bad I blew it. You might go a couple of days without praying or fellowshipping with Him because you just know He doesn t want to talk to you. Finally, you make yourself quit wallowing in guilt and try to pray. Of course the first thing you say is, Oh Lord I am so sorry, I really blew it. Please forgive me. Then you go into a long explanation of what you did and what an awful person you are. I have a revelation for you: When you asked God to forgive you for messing up, this wasn t the first time He knew about it. And it s not God making you feel guilty. Nope, that s not how He operates. He very much wants you to talk to Him. 1 John 3: 20-21 (NLT) says, Even if we feel guilty, God is greater than our feelings, and He knows everything. Dear friends, if we don t feel guilty, we can come to God with bold confidence. When you were born again, you asked God to forgive you of your sin and wash you in the blood of Jesus. You asked Jesus to be you Savior and live in your heart. At that moment God forgave you of every sin you had ever committed. Isn t that incredible? Don t let guilt keep you from God s presence. Hebrews 4:16 says, So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive His mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most. He wants to help you live the life that Jesus died to give you life more abundant. So don t waste time letting guilt consume you. Don t miss out experiencing His presence. WEE Curriculum November/December God made People Early Childhood Ministries Our ministry exists to lead children to trust, follow and serve Jesus Christ. Early Childhood Ministries encourages children to begin and deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ by teaching biblical truths and by providing an accepting, fun, loving and safe environment for your children. and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 2 Timothy 3:15 NKJV Your child is of the utmost importance to us. We believe that children are a gift from God. They are deeply loved and valued by each member of the ECM team. Our mission is to develop future disciples and touch their lives with the saving knowledge and Grace of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The month of November the children will learn that God made people. During the month of December the children will learn that God rested after making everything. Visuals, hands-on objects, singing and music will be used to instill the Word into the children. Parents will receive a hand-out the first Sunday of the month for that month s lesson. Use the hand-out at home to reinforce the lesson the children learned. Don t Forget! The Joyful Noise Choir performance is scheduled for November 16th, during the evening service. ministering to the spiritual needs of children in 1st 5th grade With Brett Owen Cornerstone Kids Pastor We take great care in presenting Jesus in a way that is fun and relevant for children. Every week we create an atmosphere where children: 1. Experience the Father s Love 2. Discover their identity in Christ 3. Demonstrate the love of God toward others We are blessed to offer these Sunday services and programs in the Life Center: Children s worship service at 8:30 am and 11:00 am Small group classes at 10:00 am Children s Choir available at 6:00 pm Bible activity program at 6:30 pm One2One Special Needs program during all services Cornerstone Kids have made it to the Promise Land! That s right, the children of Cornerstone Church just completed a Wilderness Escape. Last month, during this exciting five week teaching series we joined Moses as he and the Israelites escaped Egypt and traveled to parts unknown trusting God all the way. We learned the importance of trusting God no matter what and our faith was strengthened in a God who is always with us. Date Power Point RECAP November is a month to Give Thanks and that s exactly what we are going to do. Our new series will remind children the importance of being grateful not just for the things we have, but for the people God places in our lives. This holiday season let s all remember to be thankful for our friends, teachers, and family. Check out these upcoming lessons: Memory Verse Bible Story 11-9 Thank you, Friends Two people are better than one. They can help each other in everything they do. Suppose someone falls down. Then his friend can help him up. But suppose the man who falls down doesn t have anyone to help him up. Then feel sorry for him! Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 David & Jonathan 11-16 Thank you, Teachers Jesus also gave them another example. He asked, Can a blind person lead another blind person? Won t they both fall into a pit? Students are not better than their teachers. But everyone who is completely trained will be like his teacher. Luke 6:39-40 Jesus the Rabbi 11-23 Thank you, Family Whoever does not care for his own relatives, especially his own family members, has turned against the faith and is worse than someone who does not believe in God. 1 Timothy 5:8 Joseph forgives his brothers. 11-30 Thank you, God Psalm 138 Three Yearly Feasts 20 CORNERSTONE MAGAZINE NOVEMBER 2014

KidZPraise Recap Our KidZPraise Choir is getting BIG! Last month 87 kids praised the Lord with Ricardo Sanchez in the main sanctuary. The atmosphere was electric as they jumped up and down to the song Nothing is Impossible and worshipped the name of Jesus with I Call You Jesus. This unforgettable performance set a new bar for our children s choir. Liza Solares, our director, explained The children have grown in their understanding of worship. When a child worships, it s uninhibited praise and it causes faith to arise in those who hear it. Liza and her team have spent the last few months teaching the kids they are not performing, but ministering and leading others in worship. That effort was witnessed by our congregation and the live GETV audience. When kids join our choir they become part of something special. There are countless adult sanctuary choir members who developed their passion for worship as a child. Mrs. Liza s testimony is that she had began singing at seven years of age and traveled extensively with her parents who are pastors. We are blessed to have a leader with such experience and vision leading Children s Choir. The future of KidZPraise is very bright as they minister unto Jesus! We would love for your son or daughter to join our KidZPraise Choir. Please contact Liza Solares at 210-499-1746 or Liza.Solares@sacornerstone.org. NOVEMBER 2014 CORNERSTONE MAGAZINE 21

Thin Air Fusion loaded the buses and headed out for Thin Air Park on October 1st. The massive indoor trampoline park was the Wednesday meeting place for hundreds of middle school youth who descended upon the facility en masse, celebrating the first few cool days of fall weather in San Antonio. Inside, everyone enjoyed food, fun and fellowship as new friendships were made and competitions started. The obstacle courses and dodge ball games were great fun to watch as the youth enjoyed this time of good, clean fun together. We re always thankful to have the time to invest in this special group of young people, to share the love of Christ and let them know that we are here to support them through good days and bad. God s love and His message is for every day, and at the Fusion Middle School Ministry we like to have a good time, but our message is serious God s love is greater! We would love for you to join us for our next event which is just around the corner. Call us at 210-499-1716 for more information. NOVEMBER 2014 CORNERSTONE MAGAZINE 23

We are thrilled to announce that Fusion reached our September goal of raising $2500 to support the Christians currently being persecuted in Iraq and Syria. We have been teaching our young people the importance of giving to those in need, of lending a hand to the downtrodden. Members of the Fusion Middle School Ministry wrote letters of encouragement to the recipients of the financial donation, and we prayed for them individually and corporately. It doesn t take very long as we look around to realize how very blessed we are. We often take our religious freedoms for granted in these United States. May God forgive us, and may we return to a nation that seeks His face above all others on a daily basis. This project was called Do Something. It is so important for our young children to become involved in not only community efforts, but worldwide efforts. It is important for them to be a part of the bigger picture. They are 100% of our future, and the seeds we plant today will determine tomorrow s harvest. Do Something Mark 12:31 tells us, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these. 24 CORNERSTONE MAGAZINE NOVEMBER 2014

Your $88 by Dr. Jerry Eshleman - Superintendent of Cornerstone Christian Schools We recently had the unfortunate incident of suddenly and expectedly losing a much-loved coach for our varsity cheer squad. The loss was shocking. I learned of it one early afternoon while working in my office. I remember sitting there for several minutes stunned. I was, however, profoundly impressed when, a day or so later, we used one of our chapels to address the student body. It was important to take advantage of this moment and show our students how Christians process loss. A few days after that we actually held a memorial service for our coach in our high school gym. I was profoundly impressed as I heard our cheer captains tell stories of the amazing and far-reaching influence our coach had on the lives of all the girls. It was quite evident our coach loved her girls and our girls loved their coach. Moreover, it was profoundly obvious she had exerted a powerful and positive impact on their lives. As I sat and reflected on her life and the impact it left, it reminded me of an article I read several years ago. This was an article from a scientific journal. It discussed the wellknown fact that our bodies are a combination of sodium, potassium, carbon, hydrogen, magnesium, etc. Further the article stated that if one were to break the human body down into all of its component elements, it would only be worth about $88. Only $88! Is a life only worth $88? I believe we are worth far more than the mere sum of our parts. James 3:13 states, Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. Although there are numerous ways to live here are just few. To live an impactful life we should: Learn from life - be teachable Be humble Live a holy life Aggressively address moments of un-forgiveness Always act with wisdom and prudence What will you do with your $88? At Cornerstone Christian Schools, we encourage our students to do something with their lives. Make every moment of every day count. Take advantage of the time you are given to look beyond your own life and needs. Look for opportunities. Everyone has opportunities. Only you can decide what you will do yours. Take your $88 and do something! NOVEMBER 2014 CORNERSTONE MAGAZINE 25

Middle and High School Retreats This year s middle school and high school retreats were an exciting time of developing relationships among classmates and across grade levels. The students were challenged through the Word of God, spent time developing goals for the school year, planning service projects and participating in team building games/activities. It was a nice time for CCS students to bond with one another and continue to grow in their relationship with Christ. It was a great way to connect with classmates and get closer with God. We grow closer to God and each other. The biggest thing I felt was God showing He is not gone, but He has made Himself known. Tarpley retreat opened my heart and mind to Christ again. It really showed me the importance of our life.
