November 12, 2017 ST. ROSE OF LIMA PARISH Page 3 WHAT IS HAPPENING IN OUR PARISH FOR THANKSGIVING THIS YEAR? 1. HELP FOR OUR NEEDY BROTHERS AND SISTERS Girl Scouts Troop 800 are collecting food and monetary donations for needy families for Thanksgiving. Cartons are placed at the doors of the Church for this purpose. We are requesting CANNED AND NON-PERISHABLE GOODS. Envelopes for donations for turkeys for the Thanksgiving Drive for the needy are on the tables at each entrance to the church and also in the pews. We invite you to help by placing your donation in the envelope and putting them in the collection basket or drop them off at the Parish Office. We, along with our needy brothers and sisters, thank you in advance for your concern and generosity. 2. THANKSGIVING MASSES The times for the THANKSGIVING DAY MASSES are 8:15 A.M. AND 10:00 A.M. There will not be a Mass at 6:45 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day. The SPECIAL THANKSGIVING DAY MASS will be at 10:00 a.m. Before enjoying all the festivities that are naturally a part of this day, let us turn to God and thank Him for His goodness to all of us. Surely we would be lacking in courtesy to the Lord if we were to ignore worshiping Him as a parish family on this great day. It is not a day of obligation, but it is great to see so many turning up to praise the Lord not because they have to but because they want to! Refreshments will be served on the Pavilion after the 10:00 a.m. Mass. 3. THANKSGIVING COLLECTION The Special Collection taken up at the Thanksgiving Masses will go to the Saint Vincent de Paul Society. The Society provides much needed support for the needy of our Parish. Please help them out!
Page 4 ST. ROSE OF LIMA PARISH November 12, 2017 Thirty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time WISDOM We consider wisdom today. The first reading from the book of Wisdom presents this precious gift as a feminine spirit, a very desirable virtue sought by many and graciously present to all who seek her. In today's Gospel, Jesus tells a parable to illustrate wisdom in a practical, measurable way. The wise will conserve their resources, use them prudently, and mark the passing of time. The foolish, on the other hand, not planning ahead, will be in the dark. Both of these readings tell us how accessible wisdom is to all who simply and honestly seek it. Paul's words to the Thessalonians are not about wisdom, but describe one result of true wisdom: To the wise person of faith even death holds no terror. Our faith in Jesus' resurrection tells us we will all one day rise to new life in Christ. SHARING FRANCISCAN SPIRITUALITY - BY SR. JO. As the liturgical year soon draws to a close, the scripture readings appropriately challenge us to reflect on the quality of our spiritual lives. Time is such a precious commodity and how often we fail to seize the gracefilled opportunities that come our way. Today s gospel parable emphasizes for us the need to be prepared for Christ s coming. So, let us not delay in making those loving choices daily and remain awake, for we know neither the day nor the hour. (Mt. 25:13). DIVORCE CARE AND DC4K GROUP The DivorceCare group meets on Mondays in the School Building at 7:00 PM. We help people heal from the hurt of divorce or separation. Proceeds from the bake sale will go to the Hugs for the Homeless Project. Our November meeting will be on November 13th at 7:15 in the school conference room. MASS INTENTIONS Would you like to pray for a loved one who has died? Would you like a special way to thank God for his blessings? Is there a living person for whom you would like to pray? You can do all this by having them remembered at a daily or Sunday Mass. Mass intentions may be scheduled at the parish office. Mass offering is $10 for Masses. This event is a huge undertaking and requires 5,000 man hours to make it a success. In addition to time, monetary donations and donated items are also major contributors. Funds raised from the carnival go to assist the pastoral and educational needs of our church and school. Each member of our community should take great pride in becoming involved. This event cannot happen without your help.
