The advice Jesus gives is that our lives - not just our words - should bring the good news to others. In other words, we should practice what we preach. When we fail to do this, we rob our beliefs of their power to affect others. Think of the early Christian martyrs whose example of faith led others to Christ. This week spend some time reflecting on this passage. Realize that true belief is accompanied by action and Jesus emphasized the importance of action. We have all heard the saying Talk is cheap. But what does that mean in your own life? Jesus explains it when he says about the Pharisees Do not follow their example. They preach but they do not practice. Jesus sharpest criticism here is directed towards hypocrisy, the act of pretending to be holy while not treating others the way God wants us to. We are called to practice our religion as an expression of faith, sharing our gifts with those around us and helping others to bear their burdens. Together with your family determine ways you can show compassion and mercy to those in need. Lead your family from being me centered to being God and neighbor centered. Let your actions be a message of faith to everyone you meet.
