04-23-2017 PARISH LIFE Page 3 TODAY S READINGS First Reading Second Reading Gospel Reading Acts 2:42-47 1 Peter 1:3-9 John 20:19-31 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, A Message from Father Don What a surprise for the disciples! The risen Christ comes to them through locked doors, breathes on them, and says, Receive the Holy Spirit. By the power of the spirit, the disciples will forgive sins and communicate the peace of Jesus himself. However, there is another part to today s gospel story. Thomas, absent at the time of this appearance, does not believe and says he ll need to touch Jesus wounds in order to believe. Jesus appears again, with Thomas present, and now Thomas believes. The story revolves around Thomas but it is also about us. Sometimes we are like Thomas and miss the most important part of our faith, belief in Jesus! We can take solace from Jesus loving patience. Whenever we become a doubting Thomas and have our own personal need to encounter the risen Lord, Jesus tells us that we will meet him on the path of life in our own faith journey and thus come to see the risen Christ. This is the grace and blessing: his Spirit is poured out and at work everywhere. Cooperating with God s grace, we also help each other to see and believe. SEGUNDO DOMINGO DE PASCUA Queridos Hermanos en Cristo, Un Mensaje del Padre Don Qué sorpresa para los discípulos! El Cristo resucitado viene a ellos cerrando las puertas, soplando sobre ellos y les dice: "Recibid el Espíritu Santo." Y por el poder del espíritu, los discípulos perdonaran los pecados y comunicaran la paz de Jesús. Sin embargo, hay otra parte de la historia del Evangelio de hoy donde Tomas, que estaba ausente en el momento de esta aparición, no cree y dice que tendrá que tocar las heridas de Jesús para creer. Jesús aparece de nuevo, con Tomás presente, y ahora Tomas cree. La historia gira en torno a Tomas pero también sobre nosotros. A veces somos como Tomas mientras no vemos no creemos y asi perdemos la parte más importante de nuestra fe, que es creer en Jesús! Podemos tomar consuelo de la paciencia amorosa de Jesús. Cada vez que te conviertas en un "Tomas" y tengas una necesidad personal con el Señor resucitado, Jesús nos dice que vamos a reunirnos con él en el camino de la vida en nuestro propio camino de fe y así vienes a "ver" al Cristo resucitado. Esta es la gracia y bendición: de su espíritu que se vierte hacia fuera, en el trabajo y en todas partes. Coopera con la gracia de Dios, y también ayudate a "ver y a creer". Que Dios los bendiga!!!
