Richard S. Fowler Catholic Junior High School Weekly Newsletter November 7-11, 2016 Prayer For Remembrance Day -November 11 Let us pray for all who suffer as a result of conflict, and ask that God may give us peace: For the service men and women who have died in the violence of war, each one remembered by and known to God; May God give peace, God give peace For those who love them in death as in life, offering the distress of our grief and the sadness of our loss; May God give peace. For all members of the armed forces who are in danger this day, remembering family, friends and all who pray for their safe return; May God give peace, God give peace For civilian women, children and men whose lives are disfigured by war or terror, calling to mind in penitence the anger and hatreds of humanity; May God give peace.

For peacemakers and peace-keepers, who seek to keep this world secure and free; May God give peace, God give peace. For all who bear the burden and privilege of leadership, political, military and religious; asking for gifts of wisdom and resolve in the search for reconciliation and peace. May God give peace. O God of truth and justice, we hold before you those whose memory we cherish, and those whose names we will never know. Help us to lift our eyes above the torment of this broken world, and grant us the grace to pray for those who wish us harm. As we honour the past, may we put our faith in your future; for you are the source of life and hope, now and forever. Amen. Thursday, November 10 Remembrance Day Ceremony - Blocks 3 and 4 Friday, November 11 - Remembrance day - No School Important Reminders As term 1 comes to a close at the end of this month, please pay any outstanding school option fees. Friends of Fowler Christmas Fundraiser This year the Friends of Fowler is helping to transform the library into a comfortable Learning Commons for all students to use and enjoy. We are proud to be participating in our 10 th annual Christmas Wreath fundraiser and will be selling fresh, fragrant, balsam fir Christmas wreaths. Not only do these wreaths will make wonderful gifts and bring that wonderful smell of Christmas to every home but we are also proud to support the 759 people who make up the tiny village of New Germany, Nova Scotia with this fundraiser. These are beautiful, 20 wreaths that are adorned with a red velvet bow, five natural pine cones and five holly berry clusters and can be hung indoors or

outdoors. They will be delivered fresh, straight from Delong Farms at the beginning of December and we will deliver them to your home when they arrive. They are $32.00 each. All orders must be received at the Fowler office by Monday, November 7 th. For more information or gift wreath orders to anywhere in Canada, please contact Cathy Stefner (astefner@telusplanet.net). Honors with Distinction: Students must receive an overall average of 90% in all core subjects (Language Arts, Social Studies, Math, Science) with no mark below 85% in a core, and no mark below 80% in any other courses. Parking Lot In the interest of student safety, Richard S Fowler has made improvements in the way traffic moves throughout our parking lot, especially during the last two years. As student numbers have continued to increase each year, so too has the volume of traffic in the parking lot, and further changes are necessary. Now in effect: Richard Fowler parking lot will only support one-way traffic. Entry to the parking lot will be from the east end, closest to Boudreau Road. Exit from the parking lot will be at the west end, closest to Fowler Track.

It is the intent these changes will alleviate the congestion and frustration that arises during morning and after school drop off/pick-up times. After the safety of our students, Buses remain the first priority. This traffic flow change aligns itself with the Best Practices outlined in Safe Journeys to School Report issued by the City of St. Albert. Please be advised that if you are picking up your child, vehicles will be directed to the far west end of the parking lot. Alternate parking is available across the street on Fairview Blvd, Fowler Track parking lot, and at the Shell Station. By-Law Officers from the City of St. Albert will be present to enforce the new rules. This notification will be included in the weekly School Newsletter and posted on our website for future reference. Thank you in advance for your support in keeping all our children safe. We have our Get Real Day for our Grade 8 s coming up on November 17th. If you are interested in volunteering and joining us for the day, please contact Holly Tibble at htibble@gsacrd.ab.ca.
