THE DOCTRINE OF TRANSFORMATION KEY VERSE Romans 12:1-2 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God s mercy, to offer your body s as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God- this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God s will is his good, pleasing and perfect will. I. A birds eye view of God s divine plan to mold and shape each one of HIS children. II. III. IV. The different states of the human mind. The different states of the human conscience. The revival of the soul. V. The transformation of the body VI. Washing of rebirth and renewal of the Holy Spirit. Section I A birds eye view of God s divine plan to mold and shape each one of HIS children. His divine choice is a landmark in the transformation process The Lord in His awesome omniscient power has known before the foundation of the world who would accept His Son the Lord Jesus Christ. We can see a glimpse of this glorious truth as we meditate on Eph 1:4-5. Ephesians 1 4 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love 5 he [1] predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will 1

As we can clearly see in the Word of God the Lord Himself has already exercised His divine providence in mandating those that have received adoption through His one and only begotten Son the Lord Jesus Christ are chosen to walk in holiness. So in a broad context the beginning of our transformation is the divine choice by God the Father for us to be Holy and blameless in His sight. As we have learned from our previous teachings on the Justification no one will be declared blameless in God s sight by keeping the deeds of the Law. We know that this is not a New Testament teaching alone but we find that it is also taught in the Old testament. Please look at the following scriptures. Habakkuk 2 4 "Behold the proud, His soul is not upright in him; But the just shall live by his faith. Romans 3 20 Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin. Romans 3 Righteousness Through Faith 21 But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. 22 This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. In review we can see that the process of transformation begins in heaven by the desire of God the Father to adopt us in to His Holy family. but on earth it continues as we hear the glorious truth of the gospel and believe. At this point some wonderful things take place. 1. We are blessed to become temples of the Holy Spirit as a result of our belief in the Word of Truth. 1 Corinthians 3 2

16 Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you? 17 If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him; for God's temple is sacred, and you are that temple. Ephesians 1 13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession--to the praise of his glory. 2. We experience the washing of rebirth and the renewal of the Holy Spirit. Please meditate on the following scripture; this will help us to have a better understanding of the Second Birth (Titus 3:5-6)(John 3:3-4). Titus 3 3 At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. 4 But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, 5 he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, 6 whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, John 3 3 In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again. [1] " 4 "How can a man be born when he is old?" Nicodemus asked. "Surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother's womb to be born!" 5 Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. 6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit [ 2 ] gives birth to spirit. Spiritual regeneration is a landmark in the transformation process. It is necessary to understand the condition of a man before he has been reconciled to God through the Lord Jesus Christ so that we can appreciate the divine and awesome power of God in the work of sanctifying those that have been included in Christ as a result of their belief in the Word of Truth the glorious gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. Please meditate on the 3

following scripture; This will help us understand the terrible condition of a human before he/she has been saved from the wrath of God to come. Ephesians 2 12 remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world. 21 Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your (minds) because of [ 1 ] your evil behavior. 22 But now he has reconciled you by Christ's physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation-- 23 if you continue in your faith, established and firm, not moved from the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant. Romans 5 9 Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God's wrath through him! 10 For if, when we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! 11 Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation. Having a appreciation of what the Lord has delivered us from is a landmark in the transformation process. In view of God s mercy that each of us have received. The Word of God commands us to offer our bodies as living sacrifices. This type of offering to God is not a one time process but a minute by minute yielding to the leading of the Holy Spirit. At the point of spiritual regeneration we became new creations in Christ. Referring to being born of the Spirit. We need to understand that The Lord has our best interest in His heart always. So when He commands us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds it is definitely for our good and for the over all good of His kingdom. 4

As we meditate on the command given by our heavenly father to be transformed by the renewing of our minds it will be helpful to understand that our whole being will be changed as a result of being included in the Lord Jesus Christ. The timing of the change is different in regards to which part of our whole being is effected. For example: Our (spirit) has been made new. 2 Corinthians 5 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! Being transformed by the renewing of your mind is a landmark in the process of Transformation. Our (mind) needs to be renewed daily. Ephesians 4 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds; Romans 12 2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will. Our (soul) can be and should be converted or revived daily. Psalm 19 7 The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple. Our (body) will be transformed at the resurrection of the righteous. 1 Corinthians 15 42 So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; 43 it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; 44 it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. 5

Being transformed by the renewing of your mind is a landmark in the process of Transformation. The process of transformation began in heaven and for all of us that are included in Christ it will end in Heaven. Praise the Lord! The word of God teaches us about a war going on inside of each one of us. We can see this war very clearly in the Book of Romans Chapters 6, 7, 8. The more we obey the commands of God the more we can see the consequences of obedience transform our entire life. In essence we have received everything we need for life and godliness from the Lord Jesus Christ. It boils down to if we love the Lord we will obey His commands. If we do not love Him that to will have a transforming effect on your life. The consequences of rebellion have their own life changing effects on daily human life. For the sake of understanding lets take a look at the different states that our mind can experience. We will quickly see why God tell us to renew our minds. Please turn to Section II 6

Section I I Key Verse: Romans 8:5-7 Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace; the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God s law, nor can it do so. Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God. As we review the above mentioned scripture we can see the central focus on the state of mind ; which would point to the fact that the human mind can be transformed into one state or another. The following scripture will show us the different states in which are mentioned in the Bible. 1.) All thy mind Matthew 22:37 Jesus replied: Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 2.) Right mind Mark 5:15 When they came to Jesus, they saw the man who had been possessed by the legion of demons, sitting there, dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. 3.) Doubtful mind James 1 6 But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7 That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; 4.) Evil mind Acts 14 2 But the Jews who refused to believe stirred up the Gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brothers. 5.) Readiness of mind. 7

Acts 17 11 Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. 1 Peter 5 2 Be shepherds of God's flock that is under your care, serving as overseers-- not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not greedy for money, but eager to serve; 6.) Humility of mind Acts 20 19 I served the Lord with great humility and with tears, although I was severely tested by the plots of the Jews. Philippians 2 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. 7.) Depraved Mind Romans 1 28 Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. 8.) Law of mind Romans 7 23 but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. 9.) Carnal Mind Romans 8 5 Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have 8

their minds set on what the Spirit desires. 6 The mind of sinful man [1] is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace; 7 the sinful mind [ 2 ] is hostile to God. It does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so. 10.) High Minded Romans 11 20 Granted. But they were broken off because of unbelief, and you stand by faith. Do not be arrogant, but be afraid. Romans 12 16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. [1] Do not be conceited. 1 Timothy 6 17 Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. 11.) Like Minded Romans 15 5 May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, 12.) Blinded Mind 2 Corinthians 3 14 But their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away. 12.) Blinded Mind 2 Corinthians 4 4 The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. 2 Corinthians 4 4 The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. 9

13.) Fervent Mind 2 Corinthians 9 2 For I know your eagerness to help, and I have been boasting about it to the Macedonians, telling them that since last year you in Achaia were ready to give; and your enthusiasm has stirred most of them to action. 14.) Willing Mind 2 Corinthians 8 12 For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what he does not have. 15.) Corrupted Mind 2 Corinthians 11 3 But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent's cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ. 16.) Pure Mind 2 Peter 3 1 Dear friends, this is now my second letter to you. I have written both of them as reminders to stimulate you to wholesome thinking. 17.) Sound Mind 2 Timothy 1 7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. As we can clearly see the bible reveals that there are several different states of the Human mind can be in. Thank God that he has given His Holy and Living Word to renew our minds. In His great love for us He has given each one of us a conscience. Which is an emergency brake from Heaven. Section three will give more details on this precious gift from heaven. 10
