In a loving, Christ-like nurturing environment, St. Martha School guides each student to develop his or her unique ability and potential through prayer, study, and service. A MANS Accredited School since 1994. (517) 349-3322 The St Martha students participated in Math Day on Wednesday, June 10. The young grades played Beanie Baby Math Toss and measured the distance their airplanes flew at the Airplane Toss. They ran math relays which required answers to math problems in order to win. On a life size version of Math Sum Swamp, students rolled large dice and moved themselves around a huge game mat. The third grade played a rousing game called Math War. They solved 8 problems and then put together a puzzle first in order to win. A game called Slap Em tested knowledge of Math facts. Older grades played Minute to Win It, using their problem solving skills to win each event. They also played Fear the Factor, requiring factoring of numbers and eating weird food. Favorites included Mushrooms a chocolat and Cucumber salami sandwiches. The afternoon was rounded out playing Frisbee golf, solving math problems as they moved from hole to hole, and lastly, playing in a challenging Math tournament of SET. It was exciting to see our students having fun with Math.

Sister Anita s Corner Christian Service Coordinator Contact info: home phone: 349-5703 or cell phone: 242-3352 sanitaparks@yahoo.com Sunday, July 12, 2015 15 th Sunday in Ordinary Time Praying with psalm 85 Kindness and truth shall meet; justice and peace shall kiss. Truth shall spring out of the earth, and justice shall look down from heaven. I started reading Pope Francis encyclical letter On Care for Our Common Home, Earth and I saw that now is the time to realize that kindness and caring for human beings needs to be connect to the truth of how we have been treating Earth and what together we can do differently. Pope Francis said We have forgotten that we ourselves are dust of the earth (cf. Gen 2:7); our very bodies are made up of her elements, we breathe her air and receive life and refreshment from her waters (2) Kindness is a godly quality that we can cultivate in the soil of our being; rooting out selfcenteredness and supporting the growth of each and all individuals. Pope Francis relates to his patron Saint Francis for his guide and inspiration. I believe that Saint Francis is the example par excellence of care for the vulnerable and of an integral ecology lived out joyfully and authentically He loved, and was deeply loved for his joy, his generous self-giving, his open-heartedness, especially for the poor and outcast. (10) St. Francis, faithful to Scripture, invites us to see nature as a magnificent book in which God speaks to us and grants us a glimpse of his infinite beauty and goodness. (12) These are qualities that connect us to the kindness and truth of God, our Father, to Jesus and opens us to the gifts that the Holy Spirit desires to impart and has done so for use in caring for all of creation. Truth shall spring out of the earth, and justice shall look down from heaven. Praying with this psalm tells us that these words and images are ever ancient and ever new. Touch the earth with life by the way you live today. How will you touch the earth in your practices and choices? There is so much more that we can learn about our care for our common home Earth. Let today be a gift to you and let it be a gift to others, connecting us to kindness and truth. Visiting the residents at Dobie road nursing home. Looking for a simple way of giving to others? Come and join us at Ingham Medical Care Facility Dobie road nursing home for some fun with the elder residents. They have a weekly Ice Cream Social and we are invited to join them with caring hearts and happy smiles to cheer the hearts of others. Dates: Thursdays, July 16, July 30 Pick out a day and mark your calendar. Time: 2:00-3:00 pm Participants: families and children of any age; individuals

Those who study Sacred Scripture find this letter different from most of Paul s letters, as rather than addressing particular problems which may have arisen in a Christian community established by Paul, it develops a theology, an explanation of what it means to be a Christian. At the end of this particular reading, Paul makes reference to two important aspects of our faith and of our beliefs. St. Paul tells us that we have believed in him (Jesus) and that we are sealed with the promised Holy Spirit. Believing in Jesus, in His promises, in His redemption of us, is at the core of everything we do. This trust, this belief, is what allows us to take the steps needed to follow Him, to be His disciple, and to practice a stewardship way of living. Note that we believe first, however, and then we are sealed. Yes, we are sealed at Baptism and at Confirmation as those represent our promises to the Lord. We do not need some assurance from God as to His good graces. By believing, by having faith and trust, we are able to be Christ s representative. It is worth recalling and repeating that well-known quote from St. Thomas Aquinas: To one who has faith, no explanation is necessary; to one without faith, no explanation. is possible.
