Church of the Divine Child, Dearborn, Michigan Page 3 Things Above from Fr. Bilot We are embarking on the fifth week of Lent. Next Sunday is Palm Sunday, which ushers in Holy Week. With the secularization of our culture, Christianity does not have the strong voice that it needs to have. The voice of the culture seems to be stronger, and our religious traditions appear to be waning. We should not succumb to a voice that is lying to us. Our country was founded on Christian principles: In God we trust. So, why does it seem that we are trusting in everything but God? Hence, our need for listening to the voice of God and following the practices and traditions of the Church. The Church's traditions and liturgies allow us to immerse ourselves into the sacred mysteries of our life in Christ. Holy Week allows us to enter into the eternal truths of life. By participating in the Mass of the Lord s Supper on Holy Thursday evening, we celebrate the inception of the Holy Eucharist, the institution of the sacred ministry of Holy Orders (Priesthood), and Jesus' desire for all of us to serve with love. In the quiet of the night (from 8:30 PM Midnight in church), we pray with Jesus in the Garden. Can you not stay awake one hour with me in prayer? On Good Friday, we enter into the Passion of the Lord with Stations of the Cross and the Liturgy of the Word. We pray for all the vast needs of the world as a reminder that Jesus died for all of us -- yes, even our brothers and sisters of other faiths, Christian and non-christian. We cannot run; we must be a strong presence and voice of our love of Jesus Christ. Who will be that voice if everyone leaves? Who were the voices of support when Jesus was falsely accused? Only with a clear conscience and clean soul can we come forward to venerate the cross and receive the holy Eucharist. Good Friday evening and Holy Saturday, we wait in silence. The Church, lacking the Holy Eucharist, is lifeless; a shell. Death seems to have power over the earth. Thankfully, Jesus promise is fulfilled, and on Holy Saturday night, we take the light of Christ into a dark church to celebrate the mystery of Christ s life in salvation history. Easter Joy is soon to embrace us! I am asking everyone to please clear your schedules to come and celebrate these most sacred liturgies of the Church. It may seem like a lot, but once we enter into the mysteries of Christ, time seems to elude us, and we are caught up in the love of God. I pray that our church is filled with people who are searching for hope and healing; a people who desire to fall deeply in love with the Lord. This is the final full week of Lent! I pray it is filled with hope, encouragement and anticipation. This Wednesday, on the Solemnity of the Annunciation (when the Archangel, Gabriel, comes to Mary and asks her to be the Mother of our Savior), Archbishop Vigneron will be visiting Divine Child High School. Each year, the Archbishop visits the Catholic high schools. We are blessed that he will be here on a Holy Day to celebrate an all-school Mass and visit with our students throughout the day. In prayer, Fr. Jim Bilot Wednesday, March 25 Divine Child Men s Group Next meeting: Thursday, March 26 at 7pm Elementary School Multi-Purpose Room. We will be discussing HOLY WEEK! PLEASE JOIN US!!

Page 4 Church of the Divine Child, Dearborn, Michigan Fr. John Kopson s Commentary You Gotta Experience This Before Easter! Nearing the end of our Lenten Journey: Can you believe that Palm Sunday is already one week from today?!? It is amazing how fast Lent can go by! As we embark on this last full week of Lent before entering into Holy Week, remember that it is not too late to still make this Lent a transformative experience! In the book of the prophet Isaiah, we hear this powerful message from God: Come now, let us set things right, says the LORD: Though your sins be like scarlet, they may become white as snow; Though they be red like crimson, they may become white as wool (Isaiah 1: 18). We can have a transformative experience this Lent if we set things right. You might ask, What needs to be set right in my life? Well, the Lord makes it perfectly clear that our sins need to be set right. Jesus is firmly calling us to allow Him to transform our scarlet sins into white snow. He wants us to allow Him to absolve us from our sins by going to the Sacrament of Reconciliation (confession). If we do this before Easter, then we will truly have a transformative experience this Lent. By receiving God s Sanctifying Grace into our souls through the Sacrament of Reconciliation, we will be transformed into holier and stronger disciples of Jesus Christ. This will naturally make us more joyful people. We will be offering the Sacrament of Reconciliation in the Church on Tuesday, March 24 th at 6:30p.m. We will also be offering the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Saturday, March 28 th at 3:00p.m. and immediately after the 4:30p.m. Mass. Please come to Jesus in this Sacrament before Easter! Next Men s Group Meeting: The Men s Group will be meeting this coming Thursday at 7:00p.m. in the Elementary School s Multi-Purpose Room. We will be discussing HOLY WEEK. The week God saved the world! This will be a great opportunity to prepare ourselves to enter into the holiest week of the year! Please join us. God Bless You, Fr. John SVdP CLOTHING DRIVE NEXT WEEKEND March 28 & 29 Saturday, March 28 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM Sunday, March 29 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM Divine Child West Parking Lot (West of Elementary School) Gently used clothing, bedding, towels and shoes In plastic bags or boxes, no hangers, please! Easter Candy for Capuchin Kids Next weekend, there will be boxes available for donations of candy for Easter treats for the Capuchin kids at the Capuchin Soup Kitchen. On Easter Saturday, a special Easter dinner will be served and the children will receive their Easter treats. Divine Child Parish and both schools are the main providers of Easter candy. Many thanks for your continued support of the Capuchin Soup Kitchen. Divine Child is the Best!!! Matt Dzieciuch 278-2391 Jim Quinn 274-0952 From the Editor The sun does not need to shine to make a beautiful day. I look around me, count my blessings, and thank God for creating this beautiful day. Church of the Divine Child, Dearborn, Michigan Page 11 It was a great morning as we started with prayer, did an activity on gifts and talents, watched a DVD on Consecrated Life for women, followed by a Q & A session. At the end, I asked them the question: "Have any of you ever thought about a vocation to the consecrated life or felt called to the religious life? A couple of young ladies had the courage to raise their hands and witness to the fact that the Lord might be calling them to be a religious sister and that they were open to it. We ended the morning in the chapel to spend a few minutes in prayer with the Lord and to listen to the words of Pedro Arupe's Falling in Love with God. Sr. Francesca Tremendous Value Of The Holy Mass At the hour of death the holy Masses you have heard devoutly will be your greatest consolation. He forgives you all the venial sins which you are determined to avoid. He forgives you all your unknown sins which you never confessed. The power of Satan over you is diminished. Every Mass will go with you to Judgment and will plead for pardon for you. By every Mass you can diminish the temporal punishment due to your sins, more or less, according to your fervor. By devoutly assisting at Holy Mass you render the greatest homage possible to the Sacred Humanity of Our Lord. Through the Holy Sacrifice, Our Lord Jesus Christ supplies for many of your negligence's and omissions. By piously hearing Holy Mass you afford the Souls in Purgatory the greatest possible relief. One Holy Mass heard during your life will be of more benefit to you than many heard for you after your death. Through Holy Mass you are preserved from many dangers and misfortunes which would otherwise have befallen you. You shorten your Purgatory by every Mass. During Holy Mass you kneel amid a multitude of holy Angels, who are present at the Adorable Sacrifice with reverential awe. Through Holy Mass you are blessed in your temporal goods and affairs. When you hear Holy Mass devoutly, offering it to Almighty God in honor of any particular Saint or Angel, thanking God for the favors bestowed on him, etc., you afford that Saint or Angel a new degree of honor, joy and happiness, and draw his special love and protection on yourself. Every time you assist at Holy Mass, besides other intentions, you should offer it in honor of the Saint of the day. -The Hidden Treasure-Holy Mass, St. Leonard

DID YOU KNOW? On January 15 th, devastating news came out of Roseville about a newborn baby boy who was found dead in a dumpster. The mother of that baby boy has been arrested and currently faces charges of first degree murder. Did this have to happen? NO! NO! NO! In Michigan, you can leave your baby, up to 3-days-old, with a staff member at any hospital, fire station, police station or any emergency service provider that is on duty. There are always options for someone unready to take on the responsibilities of parenthood. Allowing a baby to die should never be an option! For more information, call LIFESPAN: 734.422.6230 In order to keep this list current, names will be kept on the list for one month only. Please call 313-277-3110 to keep a loved one on the list. Thank you. Please pray for these young men and women who are discerning God s call to the priesthood and religious life.
