St. Rose of Lima Church 312 Ridgedale Avenue East Hanover, New Jersey 07936 www.saintroseoflimachurch.org The Most Holy Body and Blood of ChristJune 18, 2017 As we consider the beautiful feast of the Precious Body and Blood of Jesus, we consider that we too are the Body of Christ. As the Body of Christ (Christians throughout the world), we realize that we are linked through our common baptism to guide, support and pray for each other. I m very proud of the food pantry we have here at St. Rose and thanks to your generosity we support those in our town and those in our surrounding towns who are in need. There are sadly many demands upon the churches in Passaic, Paterson, and Dover for non-perishable food, as many in the urban areas are finding it more and more difficult to pay rent and sustain themselves. As you know, Bishop Serratelli has asked every parish to assist those most vulnerable in our diocese by bringing non-perishable foods to each of the 111 parishes during this weekend of the Feast of Corpus Christi. Each parish has been invited to bring a specific item and our parish has been assigned canned soup. As I had mentioned, for your convenience we have placed the white parish truck in front of the church last Friday and it will be there until Monday. If you have forgotten to bring your soup, the truck will be here until approximately noon Monday for your convenience. At St. Rose of Lima we can see the blessings of a wonderful seminarian process. Our beloved Fr. Matthew (newly ordained); Deacon Michal and Deacon Andrew (to be ordained priests next month); Deacon Kamil (newly ordained) and Alex, please God, to be ordained a deacon September 2018. Thanks to everyone at St. Rose who has helped us financially, spiritually and with great love to prepare them to this point. Our diocese, through a portion of Bishop s Annual Appeal, pays to educate each of our 54 seminarians currently being prepared for the priesthood. You can appreciate the cost for each seminarian including university, food, a small allowance, and their insurance is in excess of $30,000 per year. We re blessed to have these seminarians. We certainly need them for the future. In union with every parish in the diocese, I ask you to prayerfully consider if you haven t assisted in the second collection today, to please place an envelope in the collection basket next weekend to help support the education of our seminarians. We gather this weekend to give God thanks for fathers. As we look to a wonderful example of a dad figure we don t have to look any further than our beloved St. Joseph. St. Joseph is a just, loyal, and true man who initially, with hesitancy, and then after the vision with the angel, with confidence and great trust, took on the role of being dad to Jesus. He guided Jesus in manhood. From infancy thru childhood, teenage years into adulthood. I often contemplate St. Joseph explaining life as best he could to the little boy Jesus who was inquisitive in all things. I think of St. Joseph s strong hands providing for his family and his gentle hands with great patience and profound love guiding the footsteps of his beloved foster son. Dads, on behalf of Fr. Matthew and our deacons, I wish you God s blessings as you guide your families in the footsteps of the risen Christ. Father Owen

PILGRIMAGE TO ITALY 2018 Many of you know that we have been awaiting dates to plan our next Pilgrimage in Italy to include attending the Diaconate Ordination in Rome in 2018. I'm thrilled to share that we do have the confirmed date of the Ordination. The dates we will be in Rome are Sept 25 through September 30, 2018. We are in the planning stages still, but we will be adding a Southern Italy pilgrimage to this trip as well, dates to be announced, but tentatively we would begin our trip to southern Italy on September 20th. Attending this ordination in Rome will be extraordinary. We are sharing this to begin to acquire a list of who will be joining us. Due to the Ordination, hotel rooms in Rome near the Vatican will sell out quickly, therefore we plan to secure our rooms now. If you are interested in joining Fr Owen on this special Pilgrimage to the Ordination in Rome in 2018, please email Stephanie Politi at spoliti@saintroseoflimachurch.org. as soon as possible. NEWS FROM ROME The first half of seminary in Rome is finished. I want to first thank everyone for all of your prayers during these difficult and intense weeks. As much as I love the opportunity to study, I don t believe anyone really loves taking exams. Although I don t have my grades back yet, I feel like I have done very well. This time of finishing exams is a very special one since this marks my first official return back to the United States. As many of you know, part of going to seminary in Rome is that you are not allowed to return to the US for two years, barring extraordinary circumstances. I must say, that these past weeks have been filled with anticipation for my return. I leave Monday, June 19th from Rome and I am happy to announce that Fr. Hubert, our vocation director, has assigned me to work with Fr. Owen at St. Rose this summer. I have to say this is great news for me since it means I will be able to be around everyone who I know and love and whose support and prayers have always been vital to me. I don t know what exactly I will be doing during my time at St. Rose, but I imagine that Fr. Owen will have a full schedule for me. I must say that one of the hardest parts of being away for so long in seminary is being out of the parish. The diocesan priesthood truly flourishes from within the parish and when we are outside of the parish for a long time, one feels it. I just want to thank everyone again and say that I look forward to writing News from East Hanover this summer. God Bless, Alex

What Makes A Dad God took the strength of a mountain, The majesty of a tree, The warmth of a summer sun, The calm of a quiet sea, The generous soul of nature, The comforting arm of night, The wisdom of the ages, The power of the eagle s flight, The joy of a morning seed, The patience of eternity, The depth of a family need, Then God combined these qualities, When there was nothing more to add, He knew His masterpiece was complete, And so, He called it DAD Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him. Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live Because of me. This is the bread that came down from heaven Your forefathers ate manna and died, but he who feeds on this bread will live forever.
