Trees are lovely and, like people, they come in so many varieties. Some, like the giant sequoias in California, are large enough to drive a car through. Others, like the slender, ungainly dogwood, remind us of the cross of Christ. Easterners see palm trees and they think of Florida or the coastal areas of the Carolinas or Georgia. In the springtime tourists flock to Washington, D.C. to enjoy trees filled with cherry blossoms. The world is filled with an amazing variety of trees. In the deserts of Namibia there are trees still alive from the time of Christ, yet their central trunk has never grown more than three feet in height. Instead they produce two huge leaves up to twenty feet in length which never fall and continue growing throughout the plant s life. The banyan tree of India has more than one trunk. When the original trunk of the tree attains a certain size, it sends down additional rope-like trunks so the tree can spread outwards almost indefinitely. A 200-year-old specimen in the Calcutta Botanic Gardens has over 1,700 trunks. It is said that during Alexander the Great s Indian campaign 20,000 soldiers sheltered under a single banyan tree. As I was marveling over the wonders of God s creation, I found the following 10 directions to live by: 1. You shall not worry, for worry is the most unproductive of all human activities. 2. You shall not be fearful, for most of the things we fear never come to pass. 3. You shall not carry grudges, for they are the heaviest of all life s burdens. -Continued on page 2 -

-Father s Corner Continued 4. You shall face each problem as it comes. You can only handle one at a time anyway. 5. You shall not take problems to bed with you, for they make very poor bedfellows. 6. You shall not borrow other people s problems. They can better care for them than you. 7. You shall not try to relive yesterday for good or ill, it is forever gone. Concentrate on what is happening in your life and be happy now! 8. You shall be a good listener for only when you listen do you hear ideas different from your own. 9. You shall not become bogged down by frustration, for ninety percent of it is rooted in self-pity and will only interfere with positive action. 10. You shall count your blessings, never overlooking the small ones, for a lot of small blessings add up to a big one. God Bless you and keep you safe. They sound good to me. What do you think? Love and prayers, Fr. Brian Attention Parishioners! Atención feligreses! Next Friday, November 7th - First Friday/Eucharistic Adoration will end at 5:00 pm with the Holy Hour Mass.
