Tim is joining by Church Conference Membership, and Jerilyn is joining by Letter of Transfer from Lewistown Trinity United Methodist Church in Lewistown, Ohio. Tim is a United Methodist pastor and Jerilyn is currently retired but assisting her mom, long time Church of the Master member Pat Williams. Church of the Master is Jerilyn s home church and they raised their children in large part in this congregation. Together they have two adult children. In February, they will be grandparents for the first time. Their mentors are Dr. John, Barb and Andy Hinton. Frank and Kristen Price have joined by Letter of Transfer from Central College Presbyterian in Westerville. Frank is employed at US Sportsman Alliance and as an Kristen Occupational Therapist Assistant at Olympia Therapy. They reside at 436 Illinois Avenue in Westerville. P a g e 2 T h a n k s f r o m F i n a n c e At the Finance Committee s September meeting, the financial news was not good. August giving was very weak and put us further behind our expected position. Not knowing if that pattern would continue though-out the year, we felt some action was necessary. The Committee requested an eight percent reduction in budgeted expenses which has been instituted. Thanks from the Finance Committee for your cooperation. Pastor Todd s announcement on September 18 to the congregation brought about a positive response. Thanks to those who brought their pledge commitments current and to those who gave additional funds. Finances are looking better, but giving in the last quarter has been hard to predict. Therefore, we ask for your continued help and support. Many thanks to all, Ed Dressell Chairman, Finance Committee M e m o r i a l C o m m i t t e e U p d a t e s The memory garden is now blooming on the Grove Street side of the church. More than 50 new bricks have been "planted"! Thank you to all who purchased bricks to make this possible, and a huge thank you to Charlie Clayton, the gardener who planted all the bricks. Recently several projects have been funded by the memorial committee. These include two weather-resistant benches to be placed by the memory garden, new sconces in the gathering space, four candles to complete the advent wreath, landscaping for the back yard of the parsonage and minimal landscaping in the memory garden area. Also, the memorial committee designated $500 to be used to start a fund to pay for handicapped-accessible doors at the entrance near the elevator. Total estimated cost of the doors is $8,000 These projects were paid for with money that had been given to memorialize loved ones, in consultation with the families involved. U M W C o o k i e W a l k Cookie Walk! A dream come true happening on Saturday, December 10 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., right here in Fel- lowship Hall! Instead of visions of sugarplums, do you have visions of a room full of Christmas cookies and candy from which you can select your favorites? If so, you are in luck, because the United Methodist Women (UMW) baking wonders will be holding their annual cookie sale, with their delicious sweets priced at only $6.50 per pound. All proceeds will benefit UMW missions projects. Tell your friends and family, and show up at 9:00 a.m. for the best selection! Plan to relax and enjoy a hot drink and a sweet roll from Connie's Cafe while you are there. Notes to bakers and helpers: Bakers of bare cut-outs--please have your cookies to the church kitchen by 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 8. (Note that delicate wings, antlers, and legs easily break off. Santas, trees, snowmen, etc. can be easily handled without breakage.) Cookie decorators--come anytime you're available between 9:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m. on December 8 to ice cookies with friends in Fellowship Hall. All other bakers--turn in labeled cookies by 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 9. Set-up helpers--meet us in the kitchen anytime from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday. P a g e 6 C h i l d r e n s M i n i s t r y Children s Ministry I can t believe it I have been with you for just over a year now! And I have loved every minute of it!! It is wonderful to get to know all of you, share good times with you, help you understand how much God loves you, and help you learn that sharing God s love with others is very important! Here s our information for the next two months I hope we continue to meet together and learn from each other. Miss Carol Sunday School Starting November 27 we will begin a rotation period with the theme of Advent. This is a time of waiting, and that is so hard, but waiting for the Christ Child is also exciting! Come at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings and share in the journey. This study involves Mary, mother of Jesus, who is another Woman in the Bible. We have already studied Hanna, Ruth, and Queen Esther. After Christmas we will be studying Mary and Martha. This is a difficult story for many people to understand (including me), but we ll have fun with it (and even have a male teacher!) and learn together. That will conclude our study of Women in the Bible. M&Ms We continue to meet new friends from the older population of our church family. They bring us delightful information about growing up and learning God s word. We are delighted to use our creativity and memories to share with them our appreciation for a gift of time with us. Kids Night In December 3 is the next Kids Night. It is an extended evening, 4:00 8:00 p.m., and is scheduled for ages 18 months through grade 5. Our movie will be A Muppet Family Christmas (NR). Since this is a longer time period than usual, and with more children of various ages than usual, there is a reservation deadline so I can be assured we have enough adult involvement to provide good care for all the kids. That deadline is Thursday, December 1. 1 There will be crafts and games and songs and other activities that fill the evening with fun for all ages. The cost is $15 per family. If you have any questions, please give me a call. January 7 is the first Kids Night in the New Year. The hours will return to 5:00 8:00 p.m. The movie will be The Emperor s New Groove, a G rated Disney film of an arrogant emperor who is turned into a llama and discovers the need for humility. Dinner will be llama(?), no, I don t think so! Children s Sabbath Just a quick note please mark Sunday, February 12, on your calendars. The morning services will be led by our Children. Christmas Eve Once again the early Christmas Eve service will be a gift to the congregation from the children of the church. Miss Kitty has written a program that will fit the season perfectly. There will be songs, and kings, a donkey, a baby, and so much more! We are beginning to work on that now. If at all possible, have your children attend M&Ms and Sunday School to become a part of this joyful occasion.

This is a great ministry of our church to the students. If you are interested in helping, please contact Bev Pancoast at the church office. A NIGHT OF CHRISTMAS WORSHIP WITH NOELLE SHEARER AND FRIENDS Come, listen and sing as we spend an evening of worship on December 9 at 7:00 p.m. preparing our hearts for the Christmas holiday. Noelle is the granddaughter of Helen McClelland and Worship Leader at Vineyard. She has a marvelous voice and heart for Jesus. John Morgan, accomplished finger-style guitarist, will also be coming. This will be a very family friendly concert and we would love to have plenty of kids to sing along! HAVE YOU HEARD?: Join us for the Annual Advent Program on Sunday, December 11, featuring the Brass Band of Columbus and our own Church of the Master Chancel Choir. Under the direction of Brian Stevens, the band will share a collection of British-style brass band pieces, as well as many traditional Christmas Carols. The program will begin at 4:00 p.m., and please plan to stay for a wonderful dinner after the program. This is a great time to gather with our church family to begin our celebration of Jesus birth. Invite your friends and neighbors! TRAVELER S CHRISTMAS EVE WILL BE HELD ON SUNDAY, DECEMBER 18, AT 7:00 P.M. On December 18, 2011, we will host a Christmas Eve Service for our members and friends who will be traveling on Christmas Eve, December 24. The service will include all the trimmings with carols, special music, a short sermon, and the candle light singing of Silent Night. If your travels take you out of town we hope you might consider joining us for this special Christmas Eve Service in your church and your community. If you have friends that are traveling as well, bring them along. Refreshments will be provided after worship and you know what that means Christmas cookies!!! CHRISTMAS EVE FAMILY SERVICE WILL BE HELD ON SATURDAY, DECEMBER 24, AT 5:00 P.M. This familyfriendly service includes music from the children s choir, chimes, angels, and glow-sticks for all. Come and enjoy this celebration of our Savior s birth. Refreshments will follow the service to give everyone energy for the night ahead. CHRISTMAS EVE TRADITIONAL IONAL SERVICE WILL BE HELD ON SATURDAY, DECEMBER 24, AT 7:30 P.M. This elegant service includes special music from the Chancel Choir and the lighting of candles. Come and enjoy this beautiful service celebrating Jesus birth. Refreshments and a time of fellowship will follow the service. CHRISTMAS DAY AND NEW YEARS DAY: On Christmas Day and New Year's Day (Sunday, December 25 and January 1) there will be one worship service at 11:00 a.m. There will be no Sunday school and no Rainbows, Sunbeams, or Dewdrops during the worship service. We ll be serving some of the best chili in Westerville, chicken noodle soup, salad bar, and great desserts. The funds from this lunch will help defray the cost of the 2012 Youth work camps. We currently are anticipating approximately 40 youth and adults planning to be a part of our Summer Work Camp Experience. MAX & ERMA S FUN-RAI RAISER NIGHT is January 27. We appreciate your continued support of Church of the Master Youth Programs. UMW Installation of Officers January 29 will be a special worship service for United Methodist Women. We will have a guest speaker who will preach, at both services, on Faith, Hope and Love In Action. Susan Givler, District Spritual Growth Coordinator, will install the 2012 Church of the Master Officers at both the 11:00 a.m. service and the 8:30 a.m. service. UMW will host special hospitaltiy in the Gathering Space between services and there will be a potluck lunch, entree and drinks provided, at 12:15 p.m. Following the second service, Susan will also do a short program at 1:00 p.m. We cordially invite the congregation to join us for all these events on Sunday, January 29.

Please take the time to fill out the survey so we can make sure that program is meeting the needs of our youth and their families. December Middle School Youth Bible Study and High School Small Group will meet on the Following Thursdays in December 1, December 12, and December 15. there will be no youth studies on December 22 or December 29. Sunday, December 4 We will continue our look at advent with the theme Beyond Belief. Our En Fuego speaker will be Pastor Todd and we will be having communion. Dinner will be provided. (Please bring $2 with you to help cover the cost!) Sunday, December 11 Advent Program and All Church Dinner 4:00 p.m.-6:30 p.m. Join the Church of the Master family as we enjoy the sounds of the Brass Band of Columbus and our Chancel Choir followed by the all church dinner. Sunday, December 18 Youth Christmas Party & Wor- ship 5:30 p.m.-8:15p.m. We will meet for a youth Christmas party where we will eat together (everybody bring a dish to share) and have a homemade gift exchange. That s right, a gift made by you maybe you re crafty, a cook, a writer, etc oh yeah. It s a Christmas pajama party so pick out your favorite Christmas Jammies and join us (please make sure they are CHURCH appropriate!) We will end our evening by attending the Traveler s Christmas Eve Service together. (Yes, we ve gotten permission to wear our jammies to worship!) Thursday, December 22 Zoo Lights 4:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m. We will meet at Church of the Master and head to the Columbus Zoo for the Holiday Lights Display. Cost is $12 unless you have a zoo membership (then bring it with you!) AND money for dinner. We will start our evening by grabbing dinner at Culver s near the Zoo and then explore the winter wonderland. We will return to the church around 10:00 p.m. In case of bad weather, the snow date is Wednesday, December 28. Friday, December 30 Saturday, December 31 The Amazing Race Lock-in 8:00 p.m.-8:00 a.m. You ve been waiting for it. The Youth Group Annual Lock-IN.Amazing Race Style we ll have some of the standard events (Break-In and A Schneider s Donut Run) and we ll try some new stuff too. Cost is $10 per youth to help cover the cost of the evening s events and food. Sunday, January 22- Confirmation/Mentor trip to the Columbus Museum of Art We will leave after 11:00 a.m. worship for lunch and time at the Columbus Museum of Art to see Caravaggio: Behold the Man! The Impact of a Revolutionary Artist. All Youth are encouraged to join us for this trip. Final details will be published in the youth mailing. Praise Team will still happen at the regular time! When you are hospitalized or convalescing in an extended care facility, please let your church family know of your whereabouts so we can minister to you. Because of the HIPAA Act regarding patient privacy, the disclosure of patient information to anyone other than immediate family is forbidden. These guidelines include clergy and church family members. Under the HIPAA guidelines you must specifically state that you are a member of Church of the Master and that you want the church to be contacted. Unless you give permission, the church office will not be contacted. Sometimes it can take a sig- nificant period of time for the church to be contacted even if permission is given. We want to be in ministry together in times of need, but we need information to be effective. If you are not able to make the call regarding your need for ministry, please have a family member or a friend do so! We are sorry if HIPAA guidelines inconvenience you in any way, but with a little help we can keep the lines of communication open and be effective in our ministry together. P a g e 1 1 L o c a l M i s s i o n s Through October, Local Missions activity has donated an estimated value of $7133.33 for food, clothing, and household items, budgeted and designated donations totaling $1875.72, and volunteer s time to the areas we support has totaled 1858.25 hours. The congregation should be proud of this level of commitment to Local Missions. Please contact the committee members to learn more on what to contribute and / or how to volunteer. And thanks for your great support. NNEMAP UPDATE: Local Missions had Youth donating time and ingredients to help out NNEMAP on Sunday, November 13. 1 Cup increments of flour, sugar, and salt were divided up by the Youth of our church. What a great service project! CHURCH FOR ALL PEOPLE UPDATE: On Saturday, October 29, 8 confirmands and 3 adults from Church of the Master put their faith into action by volunteering at the United Methodist Free Store at Church for All People. The volunteers sorted and hung clothes and helped bag clothes for patrons of the store. Together, they donated 22 hours of time to their neighbors in need. WARM NEEDS: Canned meats: tuna, beef stew, salmon, etc., pork & beans, canned fruit, peanut butter, cereal, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, and female products. Also, small gift items that can be used for Christmas and other holidays. And always grocery bags and egg cartons. WARM is grateful for you donations. THANKS!!! COMMUNITY HOUSING UPDATE: The Westerville Habitat Partnership presents a Candlelight Progressive Christmas Concert of Music in three historic Uptown churches; Church of the Master, Church of the Messiah, and First Presbyterian, on Friday, December 16, 2011, from 6:30 p.m. 8:45 p.m. Visitors will enjoy each church s Christmas decorations along with the music. Tickets are offered in the Gathering Space (Narthex) on Sunday, November 27 and December 4. Plan on joining with members of the Partnership: Central College Presbyterian Church, Church of the Master UMC, Church of the Messiah UMC, Columbus Academy Schools, First Presbyterian Church of Westerville, and Grace Lutheran Church for this joyous celebration in support of Delaware County Habitat for Humanity. Delaware County Habitat for Humanity presently has three (3) homes under construction. One is half of a duplex, the first duplex built by them, with the walls built by Liberty Presbyterian Church. Another is a single story built from the Westerville Habitat Partnership Walls Build in June. And the last is a two story with walls built by a team of Kroger employees.

P a g e 1 2 G i v e a P r e s e n t v i a H e i f e r Each year during Advent the Church of the Master chooses to support Heifer International. For 60 years this group has been dedicated to improving the lives of people across the globe. Heifer has 869 active projects in 53 countries and 27 in the United States. Heifer International provides livestock for food and milk, trees, bees and training to families to help them build self-reliance. These families raise them and then when they multiply are asked to give some away to a neighbor and train them. This builds sustainability for the community. A few projects that are highlighted this year are a sheep project in Haiti that helps one family support a dozen earthquake-displaced people and shows how Heifer s model can be a part of the solution for the entire country. The Heifer table will be set up in the Gathering Space on December 4, 11, and 18. Come and pick up materials. Think about what would be a better gift for someone this holiday season than a donation representing a heifer and training in its care that will bring health and hope to a family in need? Honor cards are available to give to the one you are buying the gift for. Checks can be made out to Church of the Master. Give a gift that keeps on giving. Give a gift to Heifer International. F r o m t h e O f f i c e NEWS FLASH Results are in for the Wings of the Morning fundraiser held at the Columbus Zoo on September 28 th. With over 200 people in attendance, more than $37,000 was raised toward the purchase of a new airplane for the UMC sponsored aviation ministry in the Congo. Special thanks to those members of the Church of the Master who attended the event, contributed or purchased items for the silent auction. Capital Area North has pledged to raise $100K towards the $1.1 million still needed. Donations may be made to the Church of the Master; please note on the memo line that your gift is for the Wings of the Morning project. The church office and building will be closed on November 24 and 25, December 26 and 27, and January 2 for holidays. If you need to be in the building during those times, please contact the office in advance to make arrangements. Please contact the church office prior to making arrangements to have a table in the Gathering Space, a meeting in the church or scheduling an event.
