M onday: Warning There are many people these days who think they have all the answers: philosophers think they know the meaning of life; scientists think they know how things work; scholars think they know the answers to life; preachers think they know all about God. Unfortunately, very few people know nearly as much as they think they know. The moon does not shine, it only reflects the light of the sun. There is a hole, or empty place located directly north in the universe. The earth travels in a circle around the sun. Stars have different intensities. Atomic structure. Physics An unknown force holds atoms together. Biology Human bodies contain the same 17 elements as dirt. All human blood has a common gene [from Adam and Eve?]. All animals do not have the same kind of flesh. Preview This week you ll see compare two opposing beliefs to explain the universe s origin: evolution & creation. One of these contradicts scientific evidence but it hasn t stopped many people from believing it anyway. The other one is the only plausible explanation for the origin of the universe. Evolution: the universe began [something came from nothing] between 13 and 20 billion years ago by a random, cosmic explosion (or expansion) of a subatomic ball that hurled space, time, matter and energy in all directions. Everything the whole universe came from this initial speck of infinite density (existing outside of space and time). Since then this newly existent space, time, matter and energy evolved into remarkably-designed and fully-functional stars, galaxies and planets, including life on our earth. Creation: In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. Last week you learned that Jesus IS God (John 1:1-2) his eternal nature. This week you will learn how Jesus created all things. W ednesday: How: conservation of energy One of the foundational laws of science is that the total amount of energy in the universe remains constant. Energy can be changed into another form (such as matter), but it can never be created or destroyed (except by an external, independent force). So according to this law, the universe now functions with the same amount of energy/matter it has always had (eternal it had no beginning).
