November 20, 2016 ST. ROSE OF LIMA PARISH Page 3 WHAT IS HAPPENING IN OUR PARISH FOR THANKSGIVING THIS YEAR? 1. HELP FOR OUR NEEDY BROTHERS AND SISTERS Girl Scouts Troop 415 are collecting food and monetary donations for needy families for Thanksgiving. Cartons are placed at the doors of the Church for this purpose. We are requesting CANNED AND NON-PERISHABLE GOODS. Envelopes for donations for turkeys for the Thanksgiving Drive for the needy are on the tables at each entrance to the church and also in the pews. We invite you to help by placing your donation in the envelope and putting them in the collection basket or drop them off at the Parish Office. We, along with our needy brothers and sisters, thank you in advance for your concern and generosity. 2. THANKSGIVING MASSES The times for the THANKSGIVING DAY MASSES are 8:15 A.M. AND 10:00 A.M. There will not be a Mass at 6:45 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day. The SPECIAL THANKSGIVING DAY MASS will be at 10:00 a.m. Before enjoying all the festivities that are naturally a part of this day, let us turn to God and thank Him for His goodness to all of us. Surely we would be lacking in courtesy to the Lord if we were to ignore worshiping Him as a parish family on this great day. It is not a day of obligation, but it is great to see so many turning up to praise the Lord not because they have to but because they want to! Refreshments will be served on the Pavilion after the 10:00 a.m. Mass. 3. THANKSGIVING COLLECTION The Special Collection taken up at the Thanksgiving Masses will go to the Saint Vincent de Paul Society. The Society provides much needed support for the needy of our Parish. Please help them out!

Is it the President of the United States or a movie star or a billionaire? These are people whom the world exalts as great. Like the Pharisees in today s Gospel, they have places of honor wherever they go. Would you like to follow in their footsteps? The scriptures for today offer different examples for us to follow. Jesus tells us that the greatest among us are the servants. These are the people we are to honor and imitate. We are called to be like Paul, who worked hard to serve the needs of his communities, and Jesus, who gave his life in service to the world. SHARING FRANCISCAN SPIRITUALITY - BY SR. JO. In you, Lord, I have found my peace. This sung response for today s Psalm 131 gratefully acknowledges and accepts the faithfulness of our Living God. By the ever-present grace of God, we are empowered to face and conquer our daily challenges without fear. As St. Paul reminds us in the second reading, God always remains with us so that we may know and trust the word of God now at work in us. (1 Thes. 2:13) LEGION OF MARY Mass for Deceased Legionaries The annual Mass for deceased members of the Legion of Mary will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2017, at 8:15 A.M. at St. Rose of Lima. A group Rosary will be said before the Mass and there will be a reception afterwards in the Kiosk area. Everyone is invited, and most especially our auxiliary members, whose prayers give wings to Our Lady s work, as well all the relatives of the deceased active and auxiliary members.
