Here are some highlights: Last week was Vocations Awareness Week. Our students thanked Monsignor Tony and Father Joe for their service to St. Barnabas School. We mailed a congratulations letter to Cardinal-Designate Joseph W. Tobin with a banner and pictures of St. Barnabas students. Classrooms discussed the call to vocation and many watched videos provided by the Archdiocese. Our Kindergartners read What Does A Priest Do? What Does a Nun Do? written by Susan O'Keefe. Letters were mailed to various priests, and we have classrooms taking turns to pray for an increase in vocations. In this same spirit, our third graders traveled to St. Mary of the Woods last Friday. What a blessed day! Our students represented St. Barnabas beautifully as they participated in a communion service, visited the adoration chapel and made special intentions at the shrine of St. Theodore Guerin. The day also included a tour of the campus, an opportunity to meet Sisters of Providence, and many stories of the start of Catholic education in Indiana. We LOVED having our Grandparents and Special Persons with us just before Halloween! What a blessing to meet extended family members that our so dear to our students. On the 21 st of October, our second grade students visited the zoo, our first graders went to Eagle Creek, and our 8 th graders shadowed at Roncalli High School and have since taken their placement exams. Taking learning outside of the classroom enriches the curriculum and makes the standards come to life! Our Canned Food Drive is well underway! Little Sisters of the Poor and Hunger Inc. thank you for your donations! This week we are collecting for Anna s House. Our goal is 10,000 cans 20 per student! Thank you for your contribution. Last night, of course, was our first Family STEM Night! Thank you for joining us! We were blown away by the community participation! Special thanks to Kristin Hammerschmidt who donated her time and talent to the event. Thank you also to Mr. Schnarr, Mrs. Schaller, and Mr. Bauman who put in countless hours to make the dream a reality. Thank you also to the numerous teacher volunteers who came out and those in our community that donated materials. It was so fun to watch families working together in the design process, exploring, creating, and problem solving. Finally, we would like to thank all of our veterans and service men and women for making life as we know it possible. We prayed for you today, and we wish to express our heartfelt gratitude for you and your sacrifice. Several classrooms wrote letters again this year to members of the 95 th Bomb Group, and we have already received replies. This is a special relationship that has developed over the years, and it is always touching to hear from those brave individuals who served in WWII flying over 300 missions between 1943 and 1945. May God bless you today and always. Carissa Maddox, Proud Principal
MENU Monday, November 14 Hamburger Baked Beans Fries Lettuce/Tomato Tuesday, November 15 Oriental Chicken Rice Egg Roll Wednesday, November 16 Chicken & Noodles Mashed Potatoes Corn Dinner Roll November School Wide Service Project Can Food Drive Please, for the sake of all those who hunger in our community, encourage your children to bring in as many cans as possible. Our school goal is 10,000 cans. That's roughly 20 cans per student. Last year our school was able to collect over 13,000 cans. We are confident that we can achieve our goal again this year and perhaps beat last year's total. The St. Barnabas School can food drive officially began October 31st. We have already donated to Hunger, Inc. and Little Sisters of the Poor. Hunger, Inc. weighed the can food that was donated. It totaled 1,609 pounds. WOW! The next pickup date is Wednesday 11/16 to Lord s Pantry/Anna's House. Our last pickup day is Tuesday 11/22 for St. Vincent de Paul. Come up with some age-appropriate ways to collect as many cans as possible (i.e. sacrificing some allowance money, taking time to ask grandparents/neighbors, sacrificing their Dominos pizza Friday night and using that money to buy cans, sacrificing their DQ this weekend, collecting cans instead of candy Monday night. Anything that promotes self -sacrifice can really serve as a valuable lesson for the students when providing for those less fortunate. Please try not to send in glass containers. We have had several that have broke. Thursday, November 17 Cheese Omelet Sausage Hash Brown Muffin Friday, November 18 Corn Dog Mac & Cheese Celery Sticks UNIFORM REMINDER Leggings - Students who wear plaid jumpers, skirts, or skorts in the winter months are welcome to wear leggings under them.
