3 Statement of Doctrine. The MEMBERS IN CHRIST CHURCH THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY (MICCTS) is the official Theological Training Institution of the Members in Christ Church. We are a Pentecostal denomination, saved by grace through the atoning Blood of Jesus Christ. We view the Bible as the inspired Word of God revealing the Triune God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and; true repentance, sin confession, restitution and baptism; as the redemption plan of God for mankind. We also believe in water baptism by emersion and the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in other tongues. We believe in practical sanctification not through own righteousness but through the power of the Holy Spirit as an ongoing process of rebirth. The manifestation of the Holy Spirit and the operation of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit are essential in our services. Finally we also believe in the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, an eternal heaven and an eternal hell.

4 History. During the early years of the Members in Christ Church, potential pastors were called to the Training Centre (Prayer Home) for an indefinite period of time for training. The former Moderator and founder of the church, Past. C. J. Prinsloo, with the assistance of other pastors such as Jaap Steenkamp, Dries Botha, B. M. J. Van Vuuren, would conduct the training. Later, during the period of Past. G. J. Du Toit as Moderator, the training system was improved and training was done on an ad hoc basis by himself, pastors D. P. Du Toit (Finance), J. P. Van Den Berg (Sunday School) and others that would serve as training staff. There was however, the need already to compile a proper and effective Pastoral Training Course, which also later realized through pastors Hannes Kapp and Otto Marx. In 1990, a training team was established with Past. T. I. M. Jooste as the principal, J. P. Van Den Berg as secretary, D. Steynvaard, J. J. Marx and G. M. J. Ferreira. A formal Pastoral Course was developed and the first group of eleven (11) pastors attended and received pastoral training in November 1990 in the church at the Helderberg congregation in Pretoria. From then onwards organized training was conducted on an annual basis and attention was also given to special courses such as Interpersonal Effectiveness (1995), the EE3 Evangelism course and so on. A course for twenty-nine (29) vice-pastors and their spouses were also offered in Dec 1994. Annual courses were also implemented for the black pastors. This paved the way for the establishment of the Gamaliel Bible School which later changed to Gamaliel Bible College. In 1997 the doors of the Gamaliel Bible College were officially opened as the official theological education centre of the Members In Christ Church by the Moderator Past. W. R. Frisby. Several of the lecturers have since then qualified themselves and Dr. J. P. Van Den Berg (Dean) and Professor. W. R. Frisby (as Moderator) did pioneering work, along with others who have participated and later became part of training. At time liaison was also established with the Apostolic Faith Mission Theological Seminary, Christian Life Training

5 (C.L.T) College, and Trinity International Bible University. Other lecturers such as pastors J. S. Vosloo, J. J. Marx, M. B. Erasmus, M. Erasmus, P. J. King, J. J. Deysel and J. Grobler have since participated in training programs. In April 2010, Dr. M. Erasmus was elected as Moderator, who viewed theological training as a very important phenomenon in his vision for the future of the Members in Christ Church. Dr. J. J. Deysel was appointed Director of Theological Education and the Chairman of an effective training board (Prof. J. Grobler, Dr. J. P. Van Den Berg, Pastors G. M. J Ferreira, P. J. King, J. S. Vosloo, S. Batohi, M. B. Erasmus, J. J. Marx, R. Cilliers, Past. J. M. Jansen van Vuuren and Me. A. Deysel). Past. T. I. M. Jooste was the first Principal of the former Gamaliel Bible School and was succeeded by Dr. J. P. Van den Berg in May 2001 as principal of Gamaliel Bible College. In April 2010 Dr. J. J. Deysel was elected during the general election as the Director of Theological Training of the Members of Christ Church Theological Seminary. The Pastoral Course was upgraded to a two-year course where students could obtain a Certificate in Christian Service and later a Diploma in Pastoral Leadership.

6 Dawn of a new era In August 2014 Dr. Japie Deysel, Past. Arnold Venter (Registrar), Dr. Marius Erasmus (Moderator) and the General Secretary, Past. Rudie Cilliers met with the Theological Faculty of the North West University (NWU) to discuss the feasibility of MICCTS becoming an open learning centre (OLC) campus of NWU. It was the goal from the inception of MICC to be able to offer the pastoral corps of Members in Christ Church (MICC) as well as future pastors the opportunity to study and obtain a South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) accredited degree. With this agreement pastors are able to obtain B.Th./ Honors/ Masters/ Doctorate in Pentecostal Theology through the OLC of MICCTS. As a result the current certificate and diploma course was re-assessed and combined into a new Diploma in Pastoral Leadership course, open to all students. The Diploma in Pastoral Leadership will also serve as a bridging course to students who passed matric but did not qualify for University exemption, who want to enroll for the B.Th.
