Shalom all, Here we are, mid-season 2015-16, going strong and growing again. Our book and movie discussion programs have resumed, thanks to our member volunteers. Everyone is welcome to attend. Each meets approximately once a month at the homes of our members. Reservations are necessary to enable the host family to plan. Shabbat services have been weekly and varied, guest and/or member led, instrumental and/or chanted. The drash each week is different, prepared by your fellow congregant or the guest leader. Join us to discover how worship services can be innovative and interesting. Upcoming is a Shabbaton on February 12-13, with services Friday evening and Saturday morning and a discussion meeting on Saturday evening, our Rabbinic intern Ari Witkin. There will be an elaborate lunch kiddush on Saturday after services. On Saturday Feb. 27 Ian Courte will be back to officiate at services. The board is required to form a nominating committee for next year's board. We need volunteers to serve in the committee and/or be willing to serve on the next board. PLEASEvolunteer to help your congregation function and grow. Call me to volunteer. The congregation cannot keep functioning without everyone's participation and input. As most of you know the congregation has organized a fund raising performance of FROM DOOR TO DOOR on March 27. Please support this effort. Invite your friends and family, so we can continue to serve you. Full information is elsewhere in this newsletter. I look forward to greeting all of you at our services and activities. "As I was working this evening alone in the house, I felt that I would like to walk over to Schrafft's for an ice cream. But then there occurred to me what I read the other day about Gandhi's asceticism and I thought perhaps I ought to try to emulate his example and refrain from gratifying my want. On reflection, however, it appeared that I would be so busy the rest of the evening fighting off this particular desire that I might be distracted from my work. So I went and had my ice cream soda. Was this merely 'rationalization'?" page 2

Please watch for your electronic invitation! or Book Review Mon., Feb. 1st@ 1:00pm hosted by the Wassermans RSVP 561-392-0696 kolami1@aol.com The Auschwitz or Escape by Joel C. Rosenberg Mr. Rosenberg says "Unlike any other novel I've written, this is a work of historical fiction. It was inspired by two sets of true and deeply-moving stories from World War II. The first involved a small group of German Jews, members of the underground, who made it their mission to rescue their fellow Jews, and sabotage the Nazis at every turn, until they were discovered by the Gestapo, arrested and sent to concentration camps. The second involved a small group of Protestant Christian pastors and their families in a small town in south-central France who also made it their mission to rescue Jews escaping the Nazi nightmare, and until they, too, were discovered by the Gestapo, arrested, and sent to the camps." As riveting and compelling as this book is, and there is a great deal to talk about within the story, there is much to discuss about the author as well. page 3

Save the date! Sunday, March 27th at 3:30pm "From Door to Door" starring Kol Ami's own Renee Rogoff, as well as Phyllis Spear and Peggy Linker When a woman reflects on her past as a daughter, a wife, and a mother, who does she see? James Sherman, playwright of many hit shows including Beau Jest, has written a gentle comedy which explores the relationships between three generations of women in a Jewish-American family, shifting through time in an instant. It explores the influence culture and religion have in shaping life options. Although the characters are Jewish, From Door to Door is a universal story. It conveys not only Jewish culture, but American family culture as well. For every Yiddish truism there is sure to be an Italian, Irish, or Chinese counterpart, says director Shari Upbin. You don't have to be Jewish to relate to the play, you just have to have had a mother. "Hilarious and deeply moving" - New York Daily News "A bittersweet comedy about the blessings and compromises that three generations of women encounter in their pursuit of love, faith and marriage." - The Atlanta Journal-Constitutition "Because Sherman has all the details right, they hit home hard, and they touch us with their gentle, tried and true sentiment." - Chicago Tribune $25 per person $20 per person for groups of 10 or more. Make checks payable to Kol Ami and mail to: KolAmi P. O. Box 810504 Boca Raton FL 33481 Please include your name, mailing address and phone number.
