Burkhardt (11:00am) A Round of Praise Helman Welcome and Preparation for Worship God of grace, you have given us minds to know you, hearts to love you, and voices to sing your praise. Fill us with your Spirit, that we may celebrate your glory and worship you in spirit and truth, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen. Confession and Forgiveness In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you and worthily magnify your holy name, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Most merciful God, we confess that we are captive to sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. Amen. In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for us, and for his sake God forgives us all our sins. As a called and ordained minister of the church of Christ, and by his authority, I therefore declare to you the entire forgiveness of all your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Hymn: Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee Greeting The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

And also with you.

Gloria Prayer of the Day Almighty and everliving God, increase in us the gifts of faith, hope, and love; and that we may obtain what you promise, make us love what you command, through your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

First Reading: Jeremiah 1:410 Now the word of the Lord came to me saying, Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations. Then I said, Ah, Lord God! Truly I do not know how to speak, for I am only a boy. But the Lord said to me, Do not say, I am only a boy ; for you shall go to all to whom I send you, and you shall speak whatever I command you, Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you to deliver you, says the Lord. Then the Lord put out his hand and touched mouth; and the Lord said to me, Now I have put words in your mouth. See, today I appoint you over nations and over kingdoms, to pluck up and to pull down, to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant. The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Psalmody: Psalm 71:16 In you, O LORD, have I taken refuge; let me never be put to shame. In your righteousness, deliver me and set me free; incline your ear to me and save me. Be strong rock, a castle to keep me safe; you are crag and stronghold. Deliver me, God, from the hand of the wicked, from the clutches of the evildoer and the oppressor. For you are hope, O Lord GOD, confidence since I was young. I have been sustained by you ever since I was born; from mother s womb you have been strength; praise shall be al ways of you.

Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 13:113 If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all steries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give away all possessions, and if I hand over body so that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends. But as for prophecies, they will come to an end; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will come to an end. For we know only in part, and we prophesy only in part; but when the complete comes, the partial will come to an end. When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became an adult, I put an end to childish ways. For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known. And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love. The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

Gospel Acclamation Gospel: Luke 4:2130 The holy gospel according to Luke. Glory to you, O Lord. Then he began to say to them, Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing. All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his mouth. They said, Is not this Joseph s son? He said to them, Doubtless you will quote to me this proverb, Doctor, cure yourself! And you will say, Do here also in your hometown the things that we have heard you did at Capernaum. And he said, Truly I tell you, no prophet is accepted in the prophet s hometown. But the truth is, there were many widows in Israel in the time of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, and there was a severe famine over all the land; yet Elijah was sent to none of them except to a widow at Zarephath in Sidon. There were also many lepers in Israel in the time of the prophet Elisha, and none of them was cleansed except Naaman the Syrian. When they heard this, all in the synagogue were filled with rage. They got up, drove him out of the town, and led him to the brow of the hill on which their town was built, so that they might hurl him off the cliff. But he passed through the midst of them and went on his way. The gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ. Exploration of Faith in Youth Sermon Neubauer Pastor Joel

Apostles Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God s only Son, our who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended into hell. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. Prayers of Intercession (Petitions conclude: in your mercy, / hear our prayer. ) Peace The peace of Christ be with you always. And also with you. Offering and Friendship Registers Offertory Anthem He Comes to Us as One Unknown Arr. M. Burkhardt

Offertory Song and Prayer O LORD our God, all we give for your house without walls is from your hand; all is your own, so with grateful hearts we bless your holy name, our LORD and our God. Amen.

Great Thanksgiving (Dialogue, Preface, Sanctus, Eucharistic and Lord s Prayers) It is indeed right, our duty and our joy, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks and praise to you, almighty and merciful God, through our Savior Jesus Christ. By the leading of a star he was shown forth to all nations; in the waters of the Jordan you proclaimed him your beloved Son; and in the miracle of water turned to wine he revealed your glory. And so, with all the choirs of angels, with the church on earth and the hosts of heaven, we praise your name and join their unending hymn:

Holy God, holy and mighty, holy and immortal, you call light from the chaos of our creation, you bring light to the long night of our exodus, you still promise light through our prophets of old. Blessed are you, O Light, in our valley of the shadow of death, whom our shadows cannot overcome; blessed are you, O Light, in our Lord Jesus Christ, who, in the night in which he was betrayed, took bread, gave thanks, broke it and gave it for them to eat, saying, Take and eat, this is body given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. Again after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks and gave it for them to drink, saying, Take and drink, this cup is the new testament in blood, shed for you and all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me. Remembering Christ s life, death, resurrection and ascension, we pray his light to so shine before others through us, all to your glory in heaven. Send your Holy Spirit on these gifts of bread and wine that we may receive Jesus body and blood in, with and under them; and bid us by these means of grace to come to him, whose yoke is easy and whose burden is light. Through him all honor and glory is yours, Holy Father, with the Holy Spirit, One God, in your holy Church both now and forever. Amen. remember us in your kingdom and teach us to pray. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Hymn: O God of Light Dismissal Go in peace. Christ is with you. Thanks be to God. Postlude Fuga J. Pachelbel

PJ s reflection on the Gospel Luke 4:2130 Elijah came from nowhere, with a name that means My God is Jah. He challenged kings, fed neighbors, raised the dead to heaven came and didn t die, but rose on flaming wings. Elisha means My God is Rescue. When he took Elijah s mantle up, he poured both sin and sickness in the Jordan, then he gave his bones for others lives restored. And so Jah Rescues (just as Jesus means) as Jah the great I AM delivers us from tyrants, famines, tombs, and couldhavebeens to prophesy new life, harmonious and whole. Our former prophets name the way for us to name this One with us today.
