L. Smith, Entomological Society of Manitoba This year was a year of membership growth for the Entomological Society of Manitoba and the new members who have transferred from other areas and those who have recently joined the entomology profession, are valuable additions to our Society. n 1972 the Society continued to encourage membership involvement by holding several informal luncheons and one evening smoker during the year. The objective of this year's Scientific Session was to emphasize the importance of economic entomology and the fact that so many speakers attempted to relate their research to actual production situations shows that the objective was met, nsect outbreaks were common in 1972 and information on identification, biology, damage and control was in great demand. This demand will continue and members of our Society should be prepared to make a greater contribution to the public than has been customary in recent years, would like to sincerely thank the Executive of the Society who are really the individuals who carry out the many duties that make a group such as ours successful, Thanks also to the membership who supported the activities and projects of the Society and who actively participated in decisions taken at the annual business meeting. Your continued interest in Society affairs will ensure a successful future for this group, - 2 - '

Proc. Entomol. Soc. Manitoba Vol. 2B (1972) Loschiavo considered that improved attendance at meetings could be obtained if students would listen while other papers are presented since program time is devoted to their papers. Turnock said timing of the meeting to prevent as much interference with classes as possible would help. Randy Barker suggested that students be invited to join the Entomological Society of Manitoba and to attend the Fall Meeting. Brian Ure said that a program of the meeting in advance would be helpful to students to determine what papers would be of greatest interest to them. Loschiavo - Barker moved that the incoming executive send a letter to each Entomology student inviting him to join the Entomological Society of Manitoba and that notice of meetings be placed in the paper "Graduate Jotes" and that the Canada Agricultural Chemicals Association also be notified.
