Volume 5, Iss ue 12 Page 2 Serving and Obeying God Three Sundays ago, my Pastor s wife preached about the parable of the sower in the book of Matthew Chapter 13. God had been speaking to my spirit for quite a while about the way I was serving Him. Yes, I love the Lord deeply, and I pray every day and read the Bible almost every day. I also speak to others about the Lord whenever I have the opportunity. But, there was something I felt was missing from my walk with the Lord. That Sunday when my Pastor s wife spoke about us being the soil where the seed, which is the word of God, falls, I knew the Lord was speaking to me. I have been a follower of Jesus for the past 20 years, and I found myself raising my hand that Sunday when she invited the congregation to come to the altar if in need of prayer. I felt that for sure I was the third type of soil which is where the seed falls, but the thorns which represent the worries of this world, choke it and therefore it does not produce fruit. I asked God for forgiveness and told Him that I was going to be more diligent whenever He presented me the opportunity to serve Him instead of letting the daily troubles of this world keep me away from obeying Him. Of course, the Lord did not wait too long to prove my commitment to Him. The following Wednesday, after a day of work and finally being able to take the time to organize my home at about 7:00 P.M. (We had been doing the tile floor in our house and my home had been upside down for a few weeks) one of my daughter s friends called her saying that she was on her way to the hospital s emergency room. She had not one to go with her because her mom had asked her to leave the home a couple months ago. I did not even think about what I needed to do. I got ready and headed to the hospital with my daughter; knowing that the Lord was sending this sheep of His my way to see what I was going to do about it. But, this is not the end of the story. The following Saturday, a friend of mine called me telling me that a relative of her husband was on her death bed. She needed someone to go pray for her. I told her that the next day I was going to be there with other brothers and sisters in the Lord to pray for her. I called several people to go with me and also requested prayer so that the Lord would prosper this visit because the lady had refused to accept Jesus as her Savior before. For different reasons no one was able to go with me to visit the lady. I made no excuses and prayed before leaving my home and went to pray for the lady with my seventeen year old daughter. As soon as I was next to her bed, I told her I was coming in the name of Jesus and asked her if I could read the Bible to her. She said yes (she had not spoken in several days) and I read Romans 10:8-13. She accepted the Lord Jesus as her Savior and said yes when I asked her if she wanted me to continue to read the Bible. She then fell asleep. She died the following Tuesday. What a joy it was to me, to know that the Lord had sent me there to talk about eternal life to someone who was heading to hell. (Continued on page 3)

Volume 5, Iss ue 12 Page 3 (Continued from page 2) I pray that all of us, who are followers of Jesus, check our hearts and think about what type of soil we are. Lets pray that we are the good ground that produces fruit a hundredfold. May the Lord continue to be glorified in all that we do, say and think. God bless you! By: Glenda and Johanna Martinez Glenda and her family have been donating their time and money to Love And Compassion Ministries for many years now. We are so thankful for their continued support and love for the people we minister to on a daily basis. All of us here at Love And Compassion Ministries wish to thank you for your friendship, love, prayers and support. May we never forget why we celebrate this season. God Bless you all!

Volume 5, Iss ue 12 Page 4 Love And Compassion Ministries is in desperate need of your support. Many are hurting in these difficult times. You have the power to change lives! When you support LCM it gives us the power to reach the lost, imprisoned, homeless, troubled youth, veterans and hurting people of this area! Are you using that power? All donations are tax deductable! Please give and don t forget to pray for us! Thank You!

Volume 5, Iss ue 12 Page 5 Here are simple ways to keep Christ the central focus of your life this Christmas season. Keeping Christ in Christmas means revealing daily the character of love that dwells in you, by allowing these traits to shine through your actions. Give God one very special gift just from you to Him: Let this gift be something personal, that no one else needs to know about, and let it be a sacrifice. David said in II Samuel 24 that he would not offer a sacrifice to God that cost him nothing. Maybe your gift to God will be to forgive someone you've needed to forgive for a long time. By doing this, you may discover a gift that you give back to yourself. Forgiveness is to set a prisoner free, and to realize the prisoner was you. Perhaps your gift will be to commit to spending more time with God daily. Or maybe there is something God has asked you to give up. Make this your most important gift of the season. Plan a project of good will this Christmas: Think about "adopting" a single mom. There are lots of people that are barely making ends meet and don t have money to buy gifts for their child. Do you have an elderly neighbor that is in need of home repairs or yard work? Find someone with a genuine need, involve your whole family and see how happy you can make someone this Christmas. Take a group Christmas caroling in a nursing home or a children's hospital: Incorporate Christmas caroling at a nursing home into your yearly staff Christmas party plans. Tour the facility while singing Christmas carols. Take pictures because you will want to reflect on the party for many years. Your hearts will be full of tenderness and it will be the best staff Christmas party you ve ever had. Give a surprise gift of service to each member of your family: Jesus taught us to serve by washing the disciple s feet. He also taught us that it is "more blessed to give than to receive." Acts 20:35 The idea of giving an unexpected gift of service to members of your family is to demonstrate Christ-like love and service. You might consider giving a back rub to your spouse, running an errand for your brother, or cleaning out a closet for your mother. Make it personal and meaningful and watch the blessings multiply. Set aside a time of family devotions on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning: Before opening the gifts, take a few minutes to gather together as a family in prayer and devotions. Read the Christmas story in Luke 1:5-56 through 2:1-20. Read a few other Bible verses and discuss as a family the true meaning of Christmas. Attend a Christmas church service together with your family: If you are alone this Christmas or don't have family living near you, invite a friend or a neighbor to join you. Send Christmas cards that convey a spiritual message: This is an easy way to share your faith at Christmas time. If you've already bought the reindeer cards -- no problem! Just write a Bible verse and include a personal message with each card. Write a Christmas letter to a missionary or someone in ministry work: This idea is dear to my heart! For many years now I have received a special letter from a special person each Christmas. Opening the letter is always like opening a priceless gift on Christmas morning. Many missionaries are unable to travel home for the holidays, so it can be a very lonely time for them. Write a special Christmas letter to a missionary or someone working in ministry work. Thanking them for giving their life in service to the Lord is one of the best things you can do. Trust me, it will mean more than you can imagine! Remember It s OK To Say Merry Christmas.

Volume 5, Iss ue 12 Page 6 I m Spending Christmas with Jesus Christ This Year I see the countless Christmas trees around the world below, With tiny lights, like Heaven s, reflecting in the snow. The sight is spectacular, so please wipe away that tear, For I m spending Christmas with Jesus Christ this year. I hear the many Christmas songs that people hold so dear But the sound of music can t compare With the Christmas choir up here. For I have no words to tell you the joy their voices bring. It s beyond description to hear an angel sing. I know how much you miss me, I see the pain inside your heart, For I m spending Christmas in Heaven, and that means we re apart. I can t tell you of the splendor, or the peace here in this place, Can you imagine Christmas with our Savior, face to face? I ll ask him to lighten your spirit as I tell him of your love, And you pray for one another, as you lift your eyes above. Please let your hearts be joyful and let your spirit sing, To know I m spending Christmas, where I m walking with the King.

Volume 5, Iss ue 12 Page 7 Dear Friends, Love And Compassion Ministries I thank the Lord for each and everyone of you! I wish to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all you have done to make this ministry what it is and what it will become. As you go out shopping for your friends, relatives and loved ones this season, please think about the ones that are in such a need at this time of their life. I pray that during this season you will let Jesus Christ radiate from your heart. There will be many people this Christmas that will be disappointed because they are not able to give that special gift to that special person. Pray for them that they may not lose heart. Satan wishes to destroy the family unity by having families fight instead of coming together. The Lord wishes to bind us together. Ask God to help us all work together to make this Christmas a special Christmas. Offer up a prayer for that loved one you know is being used by satan. Call them and invite them over. Don t clean the house, repaint the room, or buy that new couch., just be yourself! Talk and enjoy the people that God has put within your life. See how God can work through you! Don t let satan steal the true meaning of Christmas from you. May we all view this Christmas in a new light. Have the right attitude! Let the Holy Spirit build within you and bubble over into others. Enjoy the season, give from your heart, and worship the Lord. Show God s love to many others. Live this day as if it were your last! Make the most of the time we have on this earth! Tell people everyday what God has given you and that you love them. Many years ago, during a Christmas season just like this one, LCM had a very great need. We were praying that God would provide the money to take care of this very expensive item that we desperately needed. A Godly man and friend of mine, who is married with two little girls, came to me with a check for the amount that the ministry needed to take care of the problem we were having. This friend is like so many of us that work for not much more than what it takes to live from one week to another. I looked at the check with disbelief and ran back to tell him I could not accept such a large amount from him, because he needed the money more than we did. He refused to take the check back and stated that if I gave the check back to him, he and his family would be cheated out of a blessing from God. He made me promise that I would not tell anyone that his family gave the money. Later, I found out that his wife and children agreed not to buy any Christmas gifts for each other so that they could bless this ministry. The girls woke up Christmas morning with nothing under the tree, but there was so much love within that house that it could not contain it all. A year later this Godly man was given such a magnificent position within a wonderful Church making so much money that his wife no longer had to work. They were given a new car, a new house, and his children were able to go to the best of schools. God is so good! How many times this year did we give God a reason to bless us? Merry Christmas!
