JULY 31, 2016 ST. COLUMBANUS CHURCH_ #481/PAGE 4 July 31, 2016 Thank you to our seminarian, Bob Carolan, who ran a successful Bible Sports Camp for two weeks. Word got out after the first week and more campers showed up for the second week. The children received a well-rounded training in faith and recreation. Some families even went on a hike, led by Bob, up the trail called St. Anthony s Nose, near the Toll House on Route 202. Thanks to all who arranged and venerated the Relics of the Passion. I hope many lives were touched by remembering our Lord s great love for us by his suffering. OUR LADY OF FATIMA STATUE Next year is the 100th anniversary of the Blessed Mother s apparition to the 3 children at Fatima. At that time, Our Lady told the children to pray the Rosary daily and offer sacrifices for sinners. If her requests were fulfilled, the war would end and sinners would be converted. St. Columbanus Parish has a statue of the Pilgrim Virgin, Our Lady of Fatima. We hope you and your family will open your hearts and welcome the statue into your home to pray the Rosary with family and friends. To set up a date, or for more information, please call Bobbi at 914-737-1416, or Ann at 914-402-4374. I would like to reflect on how those families who share our faith have such a good time together knowing that all share the same values. Even our bulletin volunteers have become friends and enjoy getting together. I hope our parishioners will take a more active role in our parish and participate in the many activities we provide, thanks to our organizations. We continue with the sixth installment of the letter on the Mass by ROBERT CARDINAL SARAH, from Guinea, who is Prefect of the Congregation for the Divine Worship: The liturgy is a fundamentally mystical and contemplative reality, and thus beyond the reach of our human action; even participation is a grace from God. It presupposes on our part openness to the mystery being celebrated. For this reason the Constitution [On the Sacred Liturgy of the Second Vatican Council] encourages full understanding of the rites (cf. 34) and at the same time prescribes that the faithful be able to say or to sing together in Latin those parts of the Ordinary of the Mass which pertain to them ( 54).
