JUNE 19, 2016 ST. COLUMBANUS CHURCH_ #481/PAGE 4 We wish all fathers a Happy Father s Day! The Knights of Columbus are hosting a Movie Night for families on Saturday, June 25. This is free and open to all families. On the next day, Sunday, June 26, we will be holding our annual parish picnic at the Putnam Valley park after the 12 noon Mass. Tickets are on sale after the Masses or at the rectory. Congratulations to all students in our parish who have graduated from elementary, high school or college. Remember, we should never stop learning and practicing our faith. In this muddled, skeptical and doubt-ridden world, it is only the Catholic Church that teaches the fullness of the truth, who is Jesus Christ. To continue with the letter by ROBERT CARDINAL SARAH, from Guinea is Prefect of the Congregation for the Divine Worship on the Mass: the true work of the Church consists in entering into the action of Christ, participating intimately in the mission he has received from the Father. Thus the fullness of divine worship was given to us, because his humanity, united with the person of the Word, was the instrument of our salvation ( 5). The Church, the Body of Christ, must in turn become an instrument in the hands of the Word. This is the ultimate meaning of the key concept of the conciliar Constitution, participatio actuosa. For the Church, this participation consists in becoming an instrument of Christ the Priest, so as to participate in his Trinitarian mission. The Church participates actively in the liturgical work of Christ insofar as she is his instrument Participatio actuosa must NOT be understood, therefore, as the need to do something. On this point the teaching of the Council has often been distorted. It is a question, rather, of allowing Christ to take hold of us and to associate us with his sacrifice. (emphasis added) Liturgical participatio must therefore be understood as a grace from Christ who always associates the Church with himself (Sacrosanctum Concilium, 7). It is he who takes the initiative, who has primacy. The Church calls to her Lord, and through Him offers worship to the Eternal Father ( 7). In Jesus and Mary, Fr. Frank Samoylo YEAR OF MERCY ~ THROUGH THE HOLY DOOR The Legion of Mary is making a pilgrimage to the Marian Shrine in Stony Point, New York on Thursday, June 30th. If you would like to join us, we will meet in the upper parking lot at St. Columbanus at 10:00 a.m. For further details, please call Bobbi at 914-737-1416 or Ann at 914-402-4374. DIVINE MERCY FOR WORLD PEACE Please join us at 9:00 a.m., after the 8:30 a.m. Mass, to pray the Divine Mercy for world peace. Only through Jesus, with prayer, can peace be achieved. OUR LADY OF FATIMA STATUE Next year is the 100th anniversary of the Blessed Mother s apparition to the 3 children at Fatima. At that time, Our Lady told the children to pray the Rosary daily and offer sacrifices for sinners. If her requests were fulfilled, the war would end and sinners would be converted. St. Columbanus Parish has a statute of the Pilgrim Virgin, Our Lady of Fatima. We hope you and your family will open your hearts and welcome the statue into your home to pray the Rosary with family and friends. To set up a date, or for more information, please call Bobbi at 914-737-1416, or Ann at 914-402-4374.
