Page 4 Route 66 Youth bringing Jesus Christ into the lives of teenagers through Bible study, prayer, and fellowship. Youth Leaders Joe & Julie McNaughton Thank you to everyone who came out on February 21st and supported the Pancake Breakfast fundraiser! Our youth students worked hard cooking, plating and serving over 700 pancakes, 450 eggs and 400 sausages for our guests. And they sincerely appreciate all the generous donations received to help them get to camp this summer. Our group will be attending the Warren Willis United Methodist Camp in Leesburg in July for a week making memories, enjoying new activities, and growing their relationships with each other and with God. Camp provides an opportunity for students (as young as 4th graders!) to grow deeper in their faith. Of course, camp is just one of many opportunities for our students. We are looking forward to fellowship with our families on March 11th, service to our community in April with Relay for Life, and Biblical growth through another exciting Middle School Adventure this June with our Youth Cave Quest VBS. Between these events, we continue to connect with Jesus and support one another on Wednesday evenings. This month we are focusing on spiritual disciplines and the importance of strengthening our faith through positive habits and self-discipline. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. 1 Corinthians 9:25 It s time to get registered for Camp! Students entering 4th grade and up: Online registration is open! www.warrenwilliscamp.org/register We are attending July 11-16, 2016 Contact Julie for more information: mcnaughton@parrishumc.com Lucky Pot Luck Family Night Friday, March 11 th 6:30-8:30 PM Join us! Children s Ministry Page 5 By Ethel Pawley For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life, John 3:16. As we prepare for Palm Sunday, the Holy Week, and Easter Sunday it is so very important to teach children of all ages why these events are foundational to our Christian beliefs. John 3:16 is a starting point to begin to teach children the purpose of these events and the impact they have on our lives. It is all about God s love for us demonstrated by the life of his Son, Jesus Christ. Because of Jesus life, which included His death and resurrection, we too can be with Jesus forever by believing the three words, Jesus is alive. Children of any age can be taught these basic facts. Gradually, as a child gets older, then we can begin to teach in detail about Jesus life and his last week before his resurrection. However, starting with the basics of John 3:16 will give a child a spiritual foundation to build a lasting faith. DEEP BLUE NEWS During the month of March, we will be learning that Jesus Is Alive! We will learn about Jesus washing the feet of His disciples, the Passover Meal, Palm Sunday, and Jesus Resurrection. We will explore ways we can love and serve others, remembering Jesus with communion and celebrating that Jesus is alive! Our memory verse is I ve seen the Lord, John 20:18. Lucky Pot Luck Family Night - Friday, March 11 th 6:30-8:30 PM All families are invited to join in for an evening of good food, great fun and fellowship. Please bring your favorite Lucky Pot Luck main dish to share with other families. Bring friends and board games for all to enjoy. Don t forget to wear green for there may be a lucky surprise waiting for you! Wednesday Kidz Nite 6:30-8:00 pm Children from first-fifth grades spend each Wednesday night in Room 112 learning about the 23 rd Psalm, making crafts, playing games, eating yummy snacks and having fun! You can come anytime and be a part Kidz Nite. Parents please note there will NOT be any children s activities during Holy Week which includes Wednesday, March 23 rd. Cave Quest: Following Jesus the Light of the World! June 20 th 24 th 6:30-8:45 PM This will be a great week of energy, excitement, and experiencing God s Word. It promises to be a fun week for both children and volunteers. Volunteer opportunities are available for people with many different types of personalities and talents. Page 7 Prayer Blanket Ministry Alma Woolbert The colors of the rainbow and beyond were reflected in the 50 plus prayer blankets gracing the rails on Sunday, February 14th. Many thanks to the ladies who donated their time, materials and efforts. The blankets continue to be a source of comfort and tangible evidence to those in need that they are not alone. We welcome donations from all who enjoy knitting, crocheting and quilting. Monetary contributions are also welcome to help buy more yarn and fabric. We are blessed in the giving and the receiving. Operation Christmas Child The shoeboxes we fill for the children in November While you are out in the stores, please keep in mind the shoeboxes to fill for Operation Christmas Child. Many stores have winter items on sale at the end of the season. You may find hats and gloves at a sale price to purchase now and save for your shoebox. Sale prices can help you to purchase extra items to fill more shoeboxes. When shopping for Easter, look for sales on stuffed animals, crayons, craft items, matchbox cars, etc. to fill the shoeboxes. Buying now helps you to spread out your spending. The children appreciate everything you do! In everything I showed you that by working hard in this manner you must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said, It is more blessed to give than to receive. Acts 20:35
