Spiritial Adoption program MONTH 3 Developing Baby -- I can suck my thumb! Your baby is quite active in the womb now - - although his mother won t feel him for another couple of months. If his mother s womb had a window, you could watch your spiritually adopted baby squint, swallow and move his tongue. He can make a tight fist if you touch his palm. He is breathing amniotic fluid which continues until birth, although he obtains the oxygen his body needs through the umbilical cord. The baby you are praying for weighs one ounce. Early this month at just 9 weeks he began to suck his thumb. St. Patrick -Buffalo Center- Mass time for Saturday, July 1, will be at 4:00 PM. This is due to the town's Quasquicentennial being celebrated that weekend. We will also host an Open House in our church hall that afternoon from 2:00-3:45 PM featuring our collection of parish scrapbooks and parish memorabilia. Everyone is welcome! Jim This summer our Cluster will be blessed with the ordination of a new deacon. Tom Blomme, St. James in Forest City, will be ordinated a deacon on July 15, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton parish in Hiawatha, Iowa. We have run in our bulletin over the past weeks information about the deaconate. I would like this week to summarize some of the reasons for deacon s liturgical functions. Liturgically they assist the priest at the Mass. They process in with the Book of the Gospels because they proclaim that Sunday s Gospel. They also deliver the homily on occasions and lead the prayers of the faithful as ways to minister the Word of God to the congregation. Deacons then receive the offertory gifts as a representative of the community he serves and prepares the altar for the celebrant. After the consecration, the deacon invites the congregation to share the sign of peace and then distributes one of the cups to the people for communion. After communion, the deacon assists the priest in purifying the sacred vessels and then dismisses the congregation. Please continue to pray for Tom over these next weeks as his ordination draws near and for his future ministry in our Cluster. Holy Family Cluster Parish, Belmond, invites all to a celebration of Evening Prayer (Liturgy of the Hours) on Sunday, July 2, 2017, at 5:00 PM at the St. Francis Xavier Church, 1207 3rd Street NE, in Belmond. A newly commissioned icon of the Holy Family will be blessed and a new Hymn text to the Holy Family will be sung as part of Evening Prayer.
