WORSHIP ATTENDANCE January 6, 2019 8:00 am 138 10:45 am 117 * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * What s coming up this week at Valley? The Valley View January 9, 2019 Pray Three years ago, we began a process of preparing for the people God would add to His church. We are so grateful for the people before us who prayed, gave and worked to provide the facilities we enjoy today. Now it is our watch. It is our time to make the provision for this present generation and future generations to continue to have a place where the Valley church family can continue to thrive. During the Sunday morning service our Logistics Team Leader, Steve NeSmith will provide information to kick off our next capital campaign which will provide the opportunity to give toward the construction of the new worship center, youth and education center and revamped children, preschool and nursery areas. The key to navigating through the intensity of the coming days is prayer. Prayer is vital for the personal relationship we have with God the Father through our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus, Himself, set the standard in His practice of communion with the Father. While on the earth He communed with the Father regularly and fervently in prayer in order to always be aware of what the Father was doing around Him as He faithfully accomplished the works the Father had for Him. (John 5:19) How much more then do we need to draw close to our Heavenly Father in prayer so we can readily recognize His activity around us and then join Him as He invites us to participate in His activity. Prayer is vital to effectively engage in spiritual warfare. You can believe that any time God s kingdom is advancing the devil will try to throw his schemes in the middle of it to try to confuse and hinder. Scripture gives us clear warning and instruction regarding this warfare in Ephesians 6:10-20. Note that this instruction wraps up with prayer. The Apostle Paul urges followers of Christ to pray for each other. This helps us keep the perspective that we wrestle not against flesh and blood. The enemy always tries to pit people against one another during the times of God s intense activity. Prayer helps us not to fall into this trap. In order to help you with this focus on prayer, each family will have the opportunity to receive a booklet on Sunday. The title of the booklet is Becoming One in Christ: 40 Days of Prayer. This is a devotional booklet written by pastors and leaders in the Minnesota-Wisconsin Baptist Convention. Prayer is a vital part of preparing people to meet Jesus. Great things are ahead as we focus on our Heavenly Father for guidance, strength and provision. You'll learn about what we're doing, why we're doing it, and when. See you Sunday. We hope the Skype calls with our overseas workers was inspiring and challenging. It is great to hear what God is doing in so many places around the world. I also hope this leads us to more diligent prayer and giving through the Lottie Moon Christmas offering for this kind of work. Several of the workers indicated that they would love to share their regular prayer updates with us. If you want to get these, please contact the church office for their email address and we will provide that for you as well as some instruction on how to communicate with them in an appropriate way since several of these work in sensitive areas.
