BULLETIN NOTES Stewardship Corner In anticipation of Stewardship Sunday, November 2nd, here are some interesting facts about our church: Did you know that the Village Churchwomen s Rummage Sale is held annually on the first weekend in November. Over 40 people help for a full week to prepare for the sale. Many more people join the fun for the setup and takedown work. The sale brings in customers from all over the MetroWest area. All money raised goes to outreach selected and supported by the Village Churchwomen. Did you know that Village Church has been supporting the HOME Store Coop for over 40 years? The HOME Coop started when the shoe mills in eastern Maine laid off the people that were doing piece work in their homes. HOME stands for Home Workers Organized for More Employment. HOME comes once a year, usually in the beginning of December, for a sale of Maine home crafts at Village Church. The proceeds support not only the crafters, but the Coop itself which has a food pantry, a soup kitchen, a day care center, an education department, several residences, a cedar shingle mill, and various craft shops. Pastoral Staff Hours Although the pastoral staff are no longer holding special office hours, they are always available to meet with you. Please call or email one of them directly to set up a time to visit. Church Moms' Group Tuesday, October 28, 7 pm at the home of Heidi Almodovar This casual group welcomes moms of all ages for monthly get-togethers away from the family, usually for a dinner in someone's home or restaurant, or perhaps for a service opportunity. It's a "come when you can" kind of group and is a great way to meet other moms & new friends at our church. If you know someone who has never been to a Church Mom's dinner or activity, please invite them to come along. We hope you can join us! Contact Kerry Evans (kegevans@gmail.com) to RSVP or with any questions about the evening. We hope your school year is off to a great start! Youth Choir Rehearsal Wednesday, October 29, 6:15 pm, Youth Choir Room For more information, please email Kevin McDonald at mcdonaldkevin23@yahoo.com. Sacrament Series: Do This Wednesday evenings, October 29; November 5, 12, 19, 7:30 pm Led by Mary Luti A 5-week series exploring some well-known and forgotten dimensions of communion, scriptural images and related stories, diverse communion practices, our own experiences, and the sacrament s ethical implications for disciples of Jesus.

Cereal Sunday, November 2 Just one box of cereal per Village Church family per month and we ll fill the Wellesley Food Pantry cereal shelves for a year! Food may be dropped off anytime in the designated box in the Cloister and in the basket at the Village Common entrance. First Annual Pastoral Residency Sunday, November 16 Since 2003, Village Church has called two young, recent seminary graduates to serve among us full-time for two year terms. We have been, and continue to be blessed by the ministries of all of our Pastoral Residents. Ten former Residents now serve congregations in five different states and on both coasts of the country. Quinn Caldwell, one of our first pastoral residents, will join current Residents, Audra Teague Mackey and John Allen in leading both our worship Services on November 16 as we gather to celebrate our congregation s ongoing commitment to the Pastoral Residency Program. On Saturday, November 15 from 3:30 to 5:30 pm, Quinn will be available in Village Common for conversation and to sign copies of his latest book, All I Really Want. All are invited to join us for refreshments and to celebrate his latest publication. Rummage Sale The annual Village Churchwomen s rummage sale is scheduled for November 1. Please start collecting items to donate to this worthy endeavor. Bestselling items are clothing, men, women s and children s, linens, paperback books, jewelry and housewares. We do not accept sporting goods, large children s toys, picture frames, computers or tvs. Donations may be dropped off from Sunday October 26th after noon until Wednesday afternoon. We cannot accept donations after that time. The money raised goes to many nonprofit organizations supporting hunger and homelessness, health services and the disabled, as well as organizations supporting seniors and disadvantaged youth. A large pledge is given to the church and scholarships are made available to those going to seminary. We need volunteers as well during the week and for the sale itself. It is a wonderful time for fun and fellowship. If you have any questions or are able to volunteer, please contact Bev Lenci Beverly.lenci@verizon.net.
