Ideally, one should recite kiddush (or havdalah) on behalf of another person only when both parties are seated at the same table, in order to establish and define the group that is fulfilling its mitzvah together. However, if a group of people gathers in a clearly defined space with intent to perform a mitzvah as one, then standing is acceptable. In another halachah related to sitting at a shul kiddush: one should sit while reciting hamotzi, birkat hamazon and al hamichyah. This is meant to display respect for the berachah, and to aid concentration. However, one who eats cookies or cake while walking to a destination may stand while reciting al hamichyah; this is not considered disrespectful, because the eating itself takes place while standing, and because sitting down for the berachah would cause a distracting delay in the trip. BURNING OF CHOMETZ, APRIL 19 The City of Vaughan will be providing a special bin for the burning of chometz at the BAYT. The Vaughan Fire Department will be present to supervise the ceremony. Please note the following details: The bin will be located in the far South East corner of the parking lot The bin will be available from 6:30 AM - 11:44 AM. Only Chometz in paper bags is accepted and permissible. Plastic bags are not permitted because they are a pollutant. PESACH KASHERING SERVICE Thornhill Community Pesach Kashering Service through COR will take place on Tuesday, April 2, 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm. Items must be completely clean and may not be used 24 hours prior to kashering. PESACH GARBAGE DEPOT A Pre-Pesach garbage disposal service has been arranged at the Garnet A. Williams Community Centre, 501 Clark Avenue West (Northwest Corner of the parking lot). The service will be available from April 15-18 from 7 AM - 9 PM and on April 19 from 7 AM - 12 PM prompt. BAYT YOUTH INCLUSION and BAYT Teens Every week, a group of wonderful Teens perform beautiful acts of Chesed without any encouragement or fanfare. They visit the elderly. They visit the elderly, members and non-members who are ill, and children and adults with various special needs. They spend either a few minutes or up to an hour giving divrei Torah, making Kiddush, sharing some jokes or just stopping by to say Good Shabbos. If you know anyone who might like a visit or you know a Teen who might like to be part of this program, please contact Rich at rich@bayt.ca.
