Bishop Kucera General Assembly Knights of Columbus #595 Lincoln, NE Kevin Ostdiek, Faithful Navigator 402-438-2114 402-613-1381 Manny Gallardo, Faithful Comp. 402-423-0250 May Newsletter 2015 Happy Easter, to everyone. I pray that everyone is enjoying this most wonderful time of the year. It is a time of year to marvel at the love of power of our Risen Lord. It is a time of year to enjoy the wonder of God s creation as spring brings forth new life. It is a time of year to plan for big life events like upcoming graduations and celebrating Mother s Day. And it is time to enjoy the start of a new baseball season. Hopefully, you can plan a couple of other events in your spring plans, as there are some very important dates that are coming up: April 24 26 th : The State Knights of Columbus Convention in Kearney. The Assembly, along with the help of the Lincoln councils will once again be providing a Hospitality Room during the Convention. This year, we are moving over to the Wingate so that we are closer to the other activities. Be sure to let all of the delegates from you council know where we will be located this year. And, if you are going to the Convention this year, let me or Manny Gallardo know and we will get you a flier so that you know so that we can get you a flier. May 3 rd : We will be hosting a 4 th Degree Exemplification at North American Martyrs. Hopefully, you ve invited some 3 rd Degree Knights to enjoy the benefits of the 4 th Degree. And, hopefully, you ll be able to join us at the degree to welcome the new Sir Knights into our Assembly. Be sure to see the details of Exemplification elsewhere in this newsletter. Also on May 3 rd : We will be holding elections for the officers of the Assembly for the next Fraternal Year. The election will take place at the business meeting that precedes the Exemplification. This year, we will need to fill two positions, so please take a look at the slate of officers that is located elsewhere in this newsletter. If you are interested in serving as an officer, talk to one of the Trustees of the Assembly, and, of course, be sure to attend the meeting to help us choose our new leaders. I hope that, as you continue to celebrate the Easter Season, you will enjoy the grace of the Risen Christ, and that you will be able to join us at these events. God Bless, Kevin M Ostdiek Faithful Navigator Thank you. Kevin Ostdiek, Faithful Navigator (2014-2015) NEXT OFFICER S MEETING: Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at Kevin s home; 1320 W. Ryons St. at 7 PM. From Your Faithful Friar, Rev. Kenneth Borowiak, Mary, Mother of God Jesus holds up His mother, Mary, as an example for each of us as to what a true Christian mother should be. A mother should raise her children to follow God to love them, train them and empower them to be disciples of Christ through prayer and discipline. Christian maternity must keep children from the harm of the world and equip them for life as courageous, committed Christians in the world. If she accomplishes this she has greatly contributed to the kingdom of God. Through her intercession and example, Mary fulfills each of these tasks for us. May we honor and thank our own human mothers (living and deceased) and the mother of God this month of May. God Bless! Rev. Kenneth Borowiak, Faithful Friar

There is a dress code along with grooming criteria. If you need more information, feel free to contact one of the Commanders, the Faithful Navigator, or any of the other officers. The Commanders will exclude any Sir Knight from an Honor Guard if he does not meet the dress code or grooming criteria. Best suggestion is to look in the mirror and ask yourself, are you properly representing the Knights of Columbus. Have I properly groomed myself? If sporting a beard, have I properly trimmed it? If my hair is longer than usual, have I properly trimmed it and will it look proper when I remove my Chapeau. Look yourself over before a mirror and save yourself the embarrassment of being confronted by a Commander. Feel free to check out the following guidelines at Supreme Website: Manual Sword Honor Guard and Color Corps Drill Manual. These are both available in pdf version. It is recommended all Sir Knights download the pdf version to their computer and become familiar with these manuals.
