Family Connection John 2:1-11 Weddings are wonderful family celebrations. We go out of our way to make the occasion festive and extraordinary. People work hard to please one another. What better image of the Kingdom of God! Not every day is a wedding celebration, but we can anticipate the Kingdom of God each day in our attentiveness to one another's needs. If your family has attended a wedding celebration together, talk about the experience and the planning and cooperation that made the celebration memorable. Talk about how weddings and feasts are images in Scripture for the Kingdom of God. Consider how these festive occasions are images of God's tremendous love for us and examples of how we can show our love for one another. Then read together today's Gospel, John 2:1-11. Talk about Mary's attentiveness to the needs of the hosts and about Jesus' response. What could your family learn from this story? Consider ways that you might show these values in your family's daily life. Pray together Saint Ignatius' Prayer for Generosity. Sacrament of Marriage: Please contact St. Anthony s office (347-7129) at least 9 months before your anticipated wedding date to begin your spiritual preparation. One or both persons must be registered and actively living their faith at St. Mary s Church for at least 6 months to celebrate their wedding here. All couples planning to be married at our parishes must attend a Pre-Cana program, Natural Family Planning program and FOCCUS evaluation. For those who were former members here, they must be registered and actively living their faith at the parish where they reside. Sacrament of Baptism: Baptisms are celebrated during Mass on Saturdays & Sundays (not during Lent or Advent). A family must be registered & actively living their faith at St. Mary s Church for 6 months to assure faith will be shared with the new born child. Godparents must also be registered in a Catholic parish or other Christian church & actively living their faith. A Baptism Class is held and is required for all parents. We ask that both parents attend this class together. Godparents are also encouraged and welcome to attend. For more information, please call the parish office (347-7129). Register online at www.dio.org/familylife/events.html Ordinary Time Again. Church looks different, doesn t it? Yet even in its simplicity of being Ordinary Time both St. Anthony and St. Mary s Annunciation churches are both beautiful and prayerful worship centers. We are blessed. We are all eager to see the Sacred Heart Church s family enter into a time of growth, change, and refurbish of their church. We support them in their successful campaign and renovation plans. Thanks to the MANY folks who stayed and helped the Art and Environment Committee take down the Christmas décor. It truly was a beautiful season of celebration of all the major feasts of this great season of hope, new birth, and Joy. Thanks to all our ministries who helped in any way bring to our parish great seasonal worship during Advent & Christams. In only eight weeks we will come to begin our Lenten journey and once again we will see change in our church environment, music, and prayer. This past week I taught RCIA to our class and a few others individually. I talked about the living out of a church year with its seasons or Ordinary Time, Advent, Christmas, Lent and Easterd. We do this as we journey through the calendar seasons of Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer. SO now we wear our Green vestments and use the altar cloths to match, and we continue this journey with the winter cold, white snow, and freezing temperatures. Usual Midwest January right? Nothing new right? I will join the snowbirds for the next two weeks and will go south for a vacation. I am looking forward to the warmth of the sun, and an opportunity to relax, and chill out with friends. I appreciate this opportunity and entrust your care to Fr. Mark. We will welcome this welcome Fr. Richard Chiola and next weekend Fr. David Hoefler to help preside at the liturgies and both parishes. I feel so blessed to have such a great team of staff members who I know will keep the life of our parish going smoothly and beautifully. In their YES we are daily blessed. I will return on Feb. 2nd for the weekend masses. Pray for me and I will pray for you.. - Peace Fr.
