From the East My Brothers, 2015 Lodge Officers Happy Easter! I hope the change of seasons is as refreshing to you as it is to me. At long last, the cold of winter is behind us as we now look forward to a rebirth in spring. Take a moment to smell the fresh buds blooming, hear the birds sing and see the creation that God has truly blessed us with. We have a chance to grow as Masons and cultivate new bonds of Brotherhood by actively participating in Masonic Events. April is always a busy month in the Masonic calendar. There are elections in the Grand Lodge, conferring of the fellow craft degree in our Lodge and our monthly meeting. This April also marks the 150 th anniversary of the end of the Civil War and the death of our 16 th president, Abraham Lincoln. Just 6 days after General Lee surrendered to General Grant at Appomattox Court House, Lincoln was fatally shot by John Wilks Booth while attending a play in Washington. At our monthly meeting, in commemoration of these historic events, the officers with be dressed in Civil War uniforms. Brother Ernie Anderson will talk about Civil War highlights and the Surrender. The Great Rebellion was a war of American against American or Brother against Brother. The latter being both family and Masonic. In his second inaugural address, delivered on March 4, 1865, Lincoln addressed the need to reconstruct the South and rebuild the Union: With malice toward none; with charity for all. As Masons, we set the example to the community by forgiving others and coming to the aid of those in need. President Lincoln also said in his message to Congress on July 4, 1861, And having thus chosen our course, without guile, and with pure purpose, let us renew our trust in God, and go forward without fear, and with manly hearts. Let us be the men he spoke of. Fraternally, Jonathan Soltesz W.M. Worshipful Master Jonathan S.
