Prayer for Others ENOUGH FOOD FOR EVERYONE IF Campaign This Saturday, 15th June, thousands of people gathered in Botanic Gardens Belfast to stand in solidarity with people in the developing world who don't have enough to eat and to demand change from the world's most powerful leaders. The occasion was the Big IF Belfast event, being organised by the Enough Food For Everyone IF Campaign which received the support of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland's General Assembly earlier this month. The Big IF Belfast event was an important milestone in the campaign, occurring just two days before world leaders meet at the G8 Summit in Co Fermanagh, and a timely opportunity for the people of Ireland, North and South, to show their support for the campaign and help tackle the scandal of hunger. Pray that governments around the world will implement the If Campaign s suggestions and bring about an end to hunger across the world. For more information go to www.pcimissionoverseas.org/if-campaign/ CHURCH NOTICES Monday 17th June There is a meeting with all the Elders and Professor Gordon Campbell at 7.30pm in the Parlour. If you would like to meet new people and grow in your faith then join a small group. For information about Small Groups in Fisherwick check out the information boards beside the Coffee Bar, the website or contact the Church Office. There are spare applications and booklets at the back of the church this morning. There are still a limited number of spaces left, if you are interested in joining the team pick up a booklet or speak to Ashleigh at the end of the service. All ages welcome to join in! SUMMER CLUB 12-16 August In order to make Summer Club a successful week we need lots of people to help in a range of ways. We need leaders and others to work directly with the children. We also need people to help in a variety of support roles - eg registration, catering. If you can assist in any way please sign the list at the back of church or speak to Fiona Skelly or Gary McDowell. Thank you letter from Derek and Helen Dear friends Helen and I do not really know where to begin to thank you for last weekend every part of it is precious to you and we feel so honoured that so many people, came, baked, cooked, sang, wrote sketches, made videos, spoke, wrote cards and greetings, prayed, sang, made sandwiches, played and so much more. Not even to begin to say thanks for our his and hers Longines watches and the cheque the generosity of it has truly blown us away particularly as we realize that it is the sum of so many generous contributions from so many people. We are humbled by your kindness and generosity to us. We are both wearing our watches and they will be a constant reminder of the love we have received from you and of all we have shared together since January 1994. Not that we need a reminder because it is part of who we are your love and partnering in the gospel has shaped us as we hope our ministry in some small way has helped to shape you and Fisherwick. Thank you for Friday night s superb meal especially to Tony and Desiree and the kitchen team, the young people who served us, the dessert makers, those who set up and decorated the tables and many more To Neale and the musicians, the Past Interns who sent greetings, the superb skit by the present Interns of all Derek s mannerisms and aphorisms, Peter Scullion s humorous and deft compering and all those who spoke so kindly. It was a great relaxed night and represented so much work and preparation by so many people a real highlight will always be Ernie

Huntley in lederhosen! With the rest of the von Trapp family including four of our grandchildren they kept the secret well. Then and throughout the weekend the flowers were magnificent thank you Shelagh and your team. Sunday morning was exceptional from the choir s singing the metrical psalm sung at my ordination through the Magnificat, the praise songs and George Grindle s prayer to Lo he comes complete with descant. Rosemary s kind words and your gifts are so precious Rory, our grandson and Susan Montgomery were wonderful choices to give us our gifts representing the whole spectrum of the congregation. And Alice s words took our breath away! After church refreshments and afternoon tea had all the hallmarks of Jean and Pauline s masterminding all our guests were blown away by the way it appeared at the end of church and everyone was totally impressed by the welcome and the plenteous afternoon tea before the evening service. Sunday evening s service was absolutely as we had hoped it would be an outpouring of praise to God for all that we have shared over almost 20 years. There were so many special touches Blessed be the God and Father was so special and precious as was the huge number of Fisherwick, Ballygilbert, and many others from so many facets of our lives who came but our abiding memory will be standing in the midst of the praise group, surrounded by the choir, looking out on this vast congregation of friends, singing Salvation belongs to our God and Thine be the glory and raising the rafters as we sang. And walking down the aisle to the Vierne and your most generous applause. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Helen and Derek
