Part I New Collects For Quiet Confidence O God of peace, you have taught us that in repentance and rest we will be saved, in quietness and in trust is our strength. Lift us to your presence by the power of your Spirit, where we may be still and know that you are God; through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Isaiah 30. Psalm 46.) [1] I Am the Light of the World O Lord Jesus Christ, you are the Light of the world. Enlighten our hearts with the brightness of your glory, and guide our feet into the way of peace, to the honor of your holy name. (St. John 8. Hebrews 1. St. Luke 1.) [2] I Am the Truth O God, through our Lord Jesus Christ you taught us that those who remain in your Word will know the truth that sets them free. Move us to serve you faithfully that we may be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God; through your Son Jesus Christ our Lord. (St. John 8. Romans 8.) [3] I Am the True Vine Almighty God, heavenly Father, your only Son is the true vine. May we remain in him, that being washed of our sins we may bring forth much fruit of the Spirit; through Jesus Christ our Lord. (St. John 15.) [4] I Am the Bread of Life Almighty God, you sent your Son from heaven to be the Bread of Life. Grant that when we come to him we never hunger, and believing in him we never thirst, and by remaining in him and he in us, we may have eternal life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. (St. John 6.) [5] 1

I Am the Door Almighty God, your blessed Son is the door, and whoever enters through him will be saved. Lead us in your righteousness, that we may enter your fold and not die but live, and forever give thanks to you, whose mercy endures forever; for the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. (St. John 10. Psalm 118.) [6] I Am the Good Shepherd O Lord Jesus Christ, you are the Good Shepherd, and you call your own by name. Let people everywhere hear your voice and follow you on the path of life, that so there may be one flock, and one Shepherd; to the honor and glory of your name. Amen. (St. John 10.) [7] When I Am Lifted Up Almighty God, your only Son was lifted up from the earth. Give us grace to seek the gain of sacrifice, and to strive only for the privilege of service, that we may be drawn to him whose cross and precious blood has redeemed us; our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. (St. John 18.) [8] I Am Alpha and Omega O Lord Jesus Christ, you are the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. Completely fill our lives, that whether as young men we see visions, or as old men we dream dreams, we may steadfastly look to you; who lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. (Revelation 22. Joel 2.) [9] For Inward Calm O Lord Christ, serene Son of God, your will stilled the troubled waters and calmed the fears of your people. Let your majesty master us, your power of calm control us, that despite our fears we may have faith, and despite our troubles we may find perfect trust in you; who lives and reigns over all things, forever and ever. Amen. (St. Luke 8.) [10] 2

For Vision O God, no eye has seen and no ear has heard and no human mind has conceived the fullness of your glory. By your all-searching Spirit, purify our hearts that we may see the King in his beauty, and behold the heavenly land; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. (1 Corinthians 2. Isaiah 33.) [11] For Faith O heavenly Father, you understand all your children. Give us your gift of faith, that we may see our hardships in the light of your wisdom, receive the blessed encouragement of your sympathy, and have a clearer knowledge of your will; through Jesus Christ our Lord. [12] For the Glory of Serving O Lord Jesus Christ, Son of man, you did not come to be served, but to serve. Give us grace to lay aside all our vanity, clothe us with your power, and crown us with your humility, that finally, in the glory of serving, we may stand before your throne, where with the Father and the Holy Spirit you reign, one God, now and forever. (St. Matthew 20. St. John 13. St. Matthew 10.) [13] For Fullness of Life O God, you do not lack any good thing, and you enjoy the peacefulness of perfect power. Teach us to fill our empty souls with your goodness, and to lose our weakness in your power, that so we may reach to the measure of the fullness of your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. [14] For the Crown of Victory Almighty God, a thousand years in your sight pass as a watch in the night. Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, that so finally by your mercy we may obtain the crown of everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Psalm 90. Hebrews 12. Philippians 3.) [15] 3

For Our Children O God, our heavenly Father, you have blessed us with the joy and care of children. Give us light and strength to train them that they may love whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, following the example of their Savior, Jesus Christ our Lord. (Philippians 4.) [16] For Teachers and Learners Almighty God, our heavenly Father, you have committed to your holy Church the care and nurture of your children. Enlighten with your wisdom those who teach and those who learn, that rejoicing in the knowledge of your truth, they may worship you and serve you from generation to generation; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. [17] For a Sick Child Almighty and merciful God, giver of all power and peace, watch with us over this your child. Walk with him through the valley of sickness, and lead him beside the waters of comfort, that he may patiently trust in your loving-kindness, and remain in your presence all the days of his life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Psalm 23.) [18] A Prayer for Children O Lord Jesus Christ, you have made us living members of your Church. Keep us steadfast in faith, obedient to your voice, and constant in prayer, that we may have power and strength to fight valiantly under your banner and obtain the victory; to the glory of your holy name. [19] For Childlike Faith O God, our Father in heaven, grant us joy in your service and humility in your praise, that as we remember that we are your children, we may be faithful in our duties, reflecting your love; through Jesus Christ our Lord. [20] 4

For Joy in God's Creation O heavenly Father, you have filled the world with beauty. Open our eyes to see your gracious hand in all your works, that we may rejoice in your whole creation and learn to serve you with gladness; for the sake of him by whom all things were made, your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. [21] In the Morning Throughout the world the holy Church acclaims you, Father of majesty unbounded. To you all angels sing in endless praise. Govern and uphold your people whom you have redeemed, and keep us today without sin, that we may be lifted up forever; through him who has opened the kingdom of heaven to all believers, your adorable, true, and only Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. (Te Deum.) [22] Christmas Day O God of heavenly glory, source of earthly peace and good will, may our Christmas be merry because it is touched with your divine joy; through him who in his purity and love is born in our hearts today, your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. [23] A Prayer of Nations Almighty God, supreme Governor of all people, hear our prayer for all nations, and so overrule the imperfect counsel of people, and set straight the things they cannot govern, that we may walk in the paths of obedience to you, and to thoughts that purge and make us wise; through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Woodrow Wilson.) [24] 5

For Our Country Almighty God, Ruler of all the peoples of the earth, forgive our shortcomings as a nation, purify our hearts to see and love the truth, give wisdom to our leaders, and steadfastness to our people, and bring us at last to that fair city of peace whose foundations are mercy, justice, and goodwill, of which you are the designer and builder; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (Woodrow Wilson. Hebrews 11.) [25] The Red Cross Almighty and merciful God, be with those who suffer through war or disaster, that they may receive your healing in their bodies and in their souls. Give your power to all who go forth under the banner of the Red Cross, that in this sign they may conquer death, stir our hearts to share our service and our wealth. Grant that your people, walking in the way of the cross, may find it none other than the way of life and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. [26] For Victims of Disaster Almighty God, the children of Bethlehem suffered cruel death for the sake of your holy child Jesus. Have mercy on all those who suffer wrongfully and endure grief and pain. In all their afflictions hear them, and send your angel to console and save them; through him who committed no sin, but bore our sins in his own body on the tree, your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. (1 Peter 2. Isaiah 63.) [27] For the Dying O God, our heavenly Father, have pity on your children in great bodily weakness who are drawing near the gates of death. Send your dear Son to meet with them on the way, and to stay with them, for the day is now far spent, that he may comfort them with the Word of your goodness, and break with them the bread of eternal life; through your Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (St. Luke 24.) [28] 6

For Those Bereaved Through the War O most merciful Lord, have compassion on all who mourn for those dear to them. Be their Comforter and Friend, and bring them to a fuller knowledge of your love, relieve the anguish of their bereavement, and leave only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and a solemn pride to have laid so costly a sacrifice on the altar of freedom; through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Abraham Lincoln.) [29] Dedication of a Service Flag Almighty God, you count the number of the stars and call them all by name. Receive this flag as a pledge of our devotion to liberty, and a sign of the faithfulness and valor of our sons, that it may always remind us of the sacrifice by which alone the world can be redeemed, and which was manifested in your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. (Psalm 147.) [30] 7

Part II Adapted Collects, Derived from Sources for the Most Part Ancient For Light O God, who by the leading of a star you revealed your only Son to the Gentiles. In your mercy, grant that we, who know you now by faith, may follow the guiding of your Spirit, that we may finally see the brightness of your glory as it is manifested in your Son Jesus Christ our Lord. [31] For Knowledge Almighty God, confirm in our hearts the gifts of your grace, that through greater clearness of knowledge we may attain to purity of life, both in body and soul; through Jesus Christ our Lord. [32] For Divine Aid O Lord, give us your counsel in all our troubles, your protection in all our dangers, and your peace in all our sorrows; through Jesus Christ our Lord. [33] For Health O Lord Jesus Christ, in your gentleness and righteousness you came to save us all. Heal the diseases of our bodies and our souls, and bring us back from the paths of error, that by you, the Way, we may come to you, the Life; for your sake, with the Father and the Holy Spirit are one God, now and forever. [34] For Light and Life O God, with you is the well of life, and in your light, we see light. Increase in us the brightness of divine knowledge, that we may be able to reach your abundant fountain, that our thirsting souls may be refreshed with the water of life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. [35] 8

For Strength in the Lord O Lord, be our tower of strength, our place of refuge, and our defense against the enemy. Support and strengthen us, keep us in your mercy, and guide us by your grace into victory and peace; by the might of Jesus Christ our Lord. [36] For the Restored Image O eternal God, by the power of your Holy Spirit you make us your new creation. Preserve what you have created, and sanctify what you have cleansed, that by your grace we may have that image restored which ever dwells with you, and which you want fulfilled in us; through Jesus Christ our Lord. [37] For Unity O God our Father, good beyond all that is good, fair beyond all that is fair, in you is calmness and peace. Heal the dissensions which divide us from each other, and bring us back to the unity of love which, that bound together in your Spirit, we may know your peace which makes all things one; through Jesus Christ our Lord. [38] For Oneness with God O Wisdom of God, you come from of the goodness of the eternal will, and in you alone all things stand fast. Grant that your love may prevail over our unworthiness, and your promise be stronger than our faithlessness, that with our weakness filled with your strength, we may be lifted up to the Father, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns one God, now and forever. [39] For Joy in God O God, you make joy the companion of strength. Give us joy in the gift of your power, and free us from all fretting and despair, that we may glorify you in word and deed; through Jesus Christ our Lord. [40] 9

For Worthiness in Service O Lord, remember the work you have done in us, and not what we deserve. Just as you have called us to your service, make us faithful in our calling; through Jesus Christ our Lord. [41] For Companionship with God O God, drive out all darkness in our souls which keeps us from seeing you, and the loneliness of heart which does not hear your voice. Uphold by the vision of your glory, and assure us by the comfort of your word, that we may joyfully do your will; through Jesus Christ our Lord. [42] For Joy in His Companionship O Lord Jesus Christ, you stayed with your disciples when the day was almost over. Keep your promise for all who love you, that they may always find joy in your companionship, and light in the evening; to the glory of your holy name. [43] For the Sense of His Goodness O God, enliven us with your presence, that we may know and feel that you are more ready to teach and give than we to ask or learn; through Jesus Christ our Lord. [44] For the Help of His Loving-Kindness Almighty God, we know that we are weak, and we trust in you because we know that you are strong. Give us the welcome help of your loving-kindness, both here in time and hereafter in eternity; through Jesus Christ our Lord. [45] For the Eye of Faith O God, your blessed Son revealed himself to his disciples in the breaking of bread. Open our eyes of faith, that everything you do may be a sign by which we may recognize you; through your Son Jesus Christ our Lord. [46] 10

For Loving Service O Lord, fill our souls with your divine charity, that hoping all things and enduring all things, we may be messengers of your healing mercy for the pain and weaknesses of humanity; through Jesus Christ our Lord. [47] For Victory through Patience O God, you are the unwearied courage and unconquerable strength of your saints. You re your power and glory in us, that we may conquer through patience, and by your gracious gift we may receive holiness of life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. [48] For Devotion of Heart O God, your only Son opened the Scriptures to his disciples, making their hearts to burn within them. Inflame our hearts with such devotion to you that we may know you as you are; through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. [49] For Freedom from Anxious Care Almighty God, our heavenly Father, you feed the birds and clothe the flowers, and you care for us as a father for his children. Guard our hearts against faithlessness and anxiety, so that we may cast all our cares on you and abide in your love, to the glory of your name; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. [50] For Control of Speech Almighty God, you know how often we sin against you with our lips. Sanctify our speech to your service, and let us often remain silent, that our hearts may speak to you and listen for your voice; through Jesus Christ our Lord. [51] For Glad Obedience Almighty and eternal God, you are slow to chide and swift to bless, and your pity is never ending. Uphold us by your mercy, and cheer us by your compassion that we may do your will with gladness; through Jesus Christ our Lord. [52] 11

For Purity Wonderful and mighty God, at your glance the heavens and the earth flee away. Your name is love. Let the holy flame of your love so burn in our hearts that we may be made pure, and come to see you as you are; through Jesus Christ our Lord. [53] For Perseverance O God, grant that in this battle of life we may never faint nor be weary, but continuing steadfast in your service may obtain the victory at last, and receive the rest which you have promised to your faithful servants; through Jesus Christ our Lord. [54] For Trust O God, you have taught us to trust in you as our Father. Open our hearts to share the faith you have revealed to us in your Son, until the littleness of our knowledge becomes lost in the greatness of your love; through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. [55] For Strength O Lord, stir up the wills of your faithful people, that we may be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power, we may fight the good fight of faith and take hold of eternal life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. [56] For Endurance O God, your blessed Son endured for us the bitterness of the cross. Give us such a measure of his grace, that we remember him and receive strength from his strength, and share in his victory; through Jesus Christ our Lord. [57] For Consecration O God, you lead us through things temporal to things eternal. Be merciful to those who strive after your heavenly promises; and since faith itself is a gift from you, may all our life be yours; through Jesus Christ our Lord. [58] 12

For Trustfulness O Lord, enlighten our minds with the light of your presence, that by your gracious gift we may keep humility in prosperity, and freedom from care in adversity; through Jesus Christ our Lord. [59] For Freedom from Worry O God, remove all our worries and doubts, that having done our best while it was day, we may commit ourselves, our tasks, and those we love, into your keeping when night comes, and accept from you the gift of sleep; through Jesus Christ our Lord. [60] For the Absent Who Are in Sickness or Distress O God, those who are absent from us remain in your presence, and to you all things far away are near. Have mercy, and provide for the needs and weaknesses of all those your church commends to you, that they may enjoy the gifts and comfort of your compassion; through Jesus Christ our Lord. [61] For Patient Faith Almighty God, give us that justice which builds on you, the faith which works with you, and the patience which waits for you; through Jesus Christ our Lord. [62] For Confident Hope O gracious Lord, teach us to begin our works with fear, to continue them in love, and to finish them with hope, looking with cheerful confidence to you, whose promises are faithful and whose mercies endure forever; through Jesus Christ our Lord. [63] For Christlikeness Almighty God, you have inspired your Church through the teaching of your holy apostles. As we stand fast in the unity of the faith, make us grow to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be all honor and glory, both now and forever. [64] 13

For Freedom in the Church O Lord, govern your holy Church. Direct it by your mighty power that it may grow in freedom and stand fast in the integrity of the faith; through Jesus Christ our Lord. [65] For Freedom through the Truth O Lord break the bonds of every tyranny that enslaves the faith, and scatter all superstitions which corrupt the truth, that we may rejoice in the freedom in which Christ has set us free, and learn to worship you in spirit and in truth; through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. [66] For Our Country O God, give the people of this nation wisdom to know what they ought to do, and courage and power faithfully to do it, that we may be loyal to our country's calling, and faithful to you; through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. [67] For the Coming of the Kingdom Almighty and eternal God, you are the brightness of faithful souls and the desire of all nations. Fill the world with your glory, and show yourself by the radiance of your light, that all the peoples of the earth may be subject to you; through Jesus Christ our Lord. [68] For Peace among All Nations Almighty and eternal God, you govern all things in heaven and earth. Mercifully hear the prayers of your people, and bring righteousness and peace to all the nations of the world; through Jesus Christ our Lord. [69] The eternal and ever-blessed Father, source of all light and life, so fill us with his grace and heavenly benediction, that + Christ who is the brightness of his glory may dwell in us, and we in him, both now and evermore. Amen. [70] 14
