Pastor Claire Cassell Lenten Disciplines Last Wednesday night at Holden Evening Prayer, I handed out a sheet with several prayer practices printed on it and suggested that people try one or more of these during the Lenten season. Lent is a good time to focus on prayer and other spiritual disciplines that help us feel more connected to God and to our faith. I invite you to ask yourself, what is getting in the way of my spiritual connection to God? A bad attitude, not having enough time to spend with God or my church family? A conflict or resentment? Fill in the blank. Then ask yourself, What can I do differently or what do I need to let go of in order to remove that barrier between me and God. This may lead you to decide what your Lenten discipline needs to be this season. There are more Prayer Practices sheets on the table outside the church office if you didn t get one yet. All of these practices will help you to slow down and listen to how God is leading you this Lenten season. Here are some more Lenten disciplines from Pope Francis to reflect on: (See next page!) Blessings and peace, 2

PASTOR CLAIRE S SCHEDULE St. Andrew News St. Andrew has been blessed with Pastor Claire s ministry since she accepted our call just over a year and a half ago, but is has been a challenge for her to carry out that ministry as a part-time pastor. We are paying her 60% of what we would pay a fulltime pastor, but when we look at the time that Pastor Claire has been giving, we find that she has been working closer to full time. She has never worked just 60%. Your Congregational Council and Mutual Ministry Team have been making a concerted effort to bring the time that Pastor devotes to St. Andrew more in line with the 60% for which she is being compensated. Beginning this week, February 26 to March 4, Pastor Claire will be off every seventh week. While this does not bring her down to 60%, it will get her closer to what is called for by her contract. Council and Mutual Ministry will continue to work with Pastor to get her schedule to the 60%. Any pastoral needs that may arise during the weeks that she is not here will be facilitated by Gloria Lopatofsky at 303-918-7088. If Gloria is not available, Lynn Kimbrough can be reached at 720-641-1961. SYNOD ASSEMBLY REPRESENTATIVES NEEDED We are looking for a man and a woman, from St. Andrew, to accompany Pastor Claire to the Synod Assembly on May 3-5. This year s assembly will be held at the Westin in Westminster. Please let Pastor Claire know if you are interested! Welcome Kathy Interim Choir Director THANK YOU to Kathy Eichenberger for stepping in to lead the choir through May. We really appreciate you sharing your time and talent with us, Kathy! Donations Being Accepted for Severe Weather Shelter Network! Through Lent, we will be collecting financial and material donations for shelter guests. Items needed include: Travel size: foot powder, body wash, toothpaste, sunscreen, wipes and deodorant plus cold weather lip balm and individually wrapped toothbrushes. Snack packs also appreciated: lunch size chips, peel top fruit cups, soft cereal bars, tuna or chicken salad lunch kits, peanut butter or cheese crackers plus plastic silverware. All items can be placed in the Marked Bin in the Narthex. 4

St. Andrew News Endowment Fund Update Thank you to Erin and Emily Knight for the very generous donation given in Loving Memory of Kathryn Knight. This amount will allow us to invest more with Mission Investment Fund and significantly increase the outreach ministry of our St Andrew Endowment Fund. The Committee approved a donation of $150 to Severe Weather Shelter Network. This was given in conjunction with the travel size items being collected in the narthex for the Shelter Network.
