This feast is a sister to last week s feast of the Epiphany. Each of them celebrates an epiphany, or a manifestation of the Spirit of God in Jesus first in his birth, and now at his baptism. The divine Spirit is manifested in all of the scriptures for this feast. Psalm 104 highlights the Spirit of God creating and renewing the earth, while the reading from Isaiah describes God restoring Israel. In Luke s account of the baptism of the Lord the Holy Spirit descends upon Jesus. And the letter to Titus reminds us that the Holy Spirit was richly poured out on us also, through the bath of rebirth (Titus 3:5, 6). The Baptism of the Lord He saved us through the bath of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit. Titus 3:5
NEWS AND EVENTS Holy Name Society Monthly Breakfast The Holy Name Society will sponsor their monthly breakfast this Sunday, January 10th, after the 8:30 am Mass. Donations are accepted and appreciated. Burse Club Collection Next weekend the Altar Society will take up the monthly Burse Club collection outside all Masses. Please be generous! If you did not pick up your 2016 Offertory Envelopes in December, they are no longer at the church, they are in the parish office. If you still want your envelopes, you can pick them up anytime during office hours. St. Vincent de Paul Clothing Box We have a St. Vincent de Paul drop box for clothing. It is located by the large tree at the gravel parking lot, over by the church. Please do not put things outside the box. If it doesn t fit through the slot, it is too large for us to take.
