From The Shop The Newsletter of the Lehigh Valley Woodworkers Guild December 2005 Printed courtesy of Hostwindow Meeting Tuesday, January 17, 2006 Place: Program Lehigh County Sr. Center 1633 Elm St. Allentown, Pa. Paul Anthony will share his experience and expertise in the selection and tuning of hand tools for the woodworking shop. We would like to thank Paul for stepping up in the last minute to give us a program this month. We have commitments for February, March and April. The program originally intended for January will be included later in the year. Tom Evans, as we have mentioned in previous issues, gets to do all of the heavy lifting and clean up. Together, they are a great team that never disappoints the members. Our youngest member, and the most adorable one, is Hannah Bachman. She brought her parents to the meeting so they could all have a piece of cake. She gave the cake two thumbs up! April 2005 marked the tenth anniversary of the Guild, and our December meeting continued the traditional Christmas Party theme, complete with a magnificent cake baked by Mary Ellen Evans. 1
We held our annual December Raffle, which included items, brought in by members. The Raffle went off without a hitch, but only after we stopped the Tug of War between Lou Supina and Andy Andersen over some hot ticket numbers. One item, an Oscillating Spindle Sander unit for a Drill Press, complete with copy of original article from an old issue of American Woodworker Mag,got a lot of attention. Some of the items included were metal Candle Holders and Cookie Cutters. This stack of thin Walnut Veneer will find its way into some future projects that we hope will show up in a Drag-in & Brag-on segment. This is a picture of a tree that escapes this writer s memory. I am sure someone will remind me at the next meeting. Judy Muth, who has over 5000 Cutters, and is an authority on Cookie Cutters, was lucky enough to have the winning ticket on this item. Emily Grumbine had a chance to pick some winners but was not able to make a psychic connection with her mom or dad. She might have to send her Crystal Ball to the service center for a tune-up. 2
With 74 members in attendance Art was just a blur while handing out raffle tickets. Will the gentlemen in this picture please call Mike Peters @ 610-965- 5612. He has misplaced your name and phone number and he wants to talk to you about that 3 phase DeWalt Radial Arm saw. This is the reason we want to do a photo album of members. Sometimes you just can t remember who the new members are. Sorry about that. We have some space to fill so lets have a quiz. Ellis attended the vendor s show in Atlanta last year, but who is that guy in the WoodCentral hat? How many Guild members work at the local Woodcraft store? Be careful now, they are not all in this picture. Five, six, eight or ten? This is a picture of part of the crowd taken before the cake was served. We are holding the picture of 74 people scoffing Mary Ellen s great cake. It s not pretty. Who can guess the birthday of this restored Unisaw? 1937, 1939, 1948, 1954. 3
