Fill the animals around you with hugs of love and prayers for the children. IMMIGRATION VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: GUARDIAN ANGEL COURT ACCOMPANIMENT & COORDINATING The Sierra Pacific Synod AMMPARO (Accompanying Migrant Minors (and their families) with Protection, Advocacy, Representation, and Opportunity) Team is offering Guardian Angel training at St. Mark s Lutheran in San Francisco on May 18th from 9 am - 12 noon, 1111 O'Farrell Street (between Franklin and Gough). Please RSVP for training at 415-294- 1832 or email at FLeBAS@ses.plts.edu. You may also RSVP by Google Form here. This session will train you to volunteer in immigration court by offering spiritual accompaniment, providing physical accompaniment, and sharing resources for unaccompanied migrant children and single-parent families going through immigration court. Mary Campbell, director of AMMPARO ELCA in Chicago, will lead the workshop. The training prepares volunteers to accompany in teams of two (ideally one a Spanish speaker, though this isn t required) at immigration court in San Francisco. No legal experience is needed, and the time commitment is very flexible. Why are we doing this? As sisters and brothers in Christ, Lutherans are called to bear witness to the conditions impacting so many communities, and to work to find solutions that will acknowledge the humanity in all of God s children. Join us in making a difference in the lives of vulnerable children and families. Coordinator Opportunity Furthermore, for a volunteer interested in a deeper, more regular opportunity to support immigrants, the Sierra Pacific Synod Guardian Angel Team is seeking a Volunteer Coordinator

who would spend 4-5 hours a week communicating with a court clerk about upcoming cases, and connecting Guardian Angel volunteers to accompany specific people. Interested in either training to be a Guardian Angel volunteer or stepping up as the Guardian Angel Volunteer Coordinator? Please RSVP for training or to indicate interest in the coordinator position at 415-294-1832 or email at FLeBAS@ses.plts.edu. Cora Rose, AMMPARO Committee, St. Mark's Lutheran Church, San Francisco, CA & Sierra Pacific Synod AMMPARO Team, Mary Ritter & Ruth Cruddas, Co-Coordinators. Other questions may be directed to Sue Hutchins member of the St. Luke Witness Team & the Sierra Pacific Synod Global Mission Advocacy Team (GMAT). VBS 2019 - JULY 15-19 - VOLUNTEERS NEEDED The St. Luke VBS program "To Mars and Beyond" runs from July 15-19 and we're looking for youth and adult volunteers. Youth volunteers must be at least entering 7th grade in the fall to be eligible. The volunteer commitment is just 5 days long from 8:30-noon and we can even use you if you're only available part of the week. No religious or work experience is required and youth volunteers can get volunteer credit toward their middle and high school requirements. If you are available, please see Andy Wadsworth or Emma Mitchell or email us at VBS@StLukeChurch.org. CHILDREN S ACTIVITIES DURING WORSHIP SERVICE After the Children's Sermon Song, children from age three through those in the fifth grade are welcome to be escorted over to the Amazing Creations playground and classrooms for some supervised playtime until Sunday school starts at 11:00 AM. Children are also welcome to stay with their parents for the duration of the service. We have bags on a kiosk near the entrance to the church with items to keep your kids engaged throughout worship. There are activity pages pertinent to the lesson for the day located on the table holding the bulletins. These have activities for ages 3+ and 7+. Take whichever sheet works for your child. The nursery in the back of the church is available for parents who want to be with their child in a quiet space during worship. We are always looking to make the worship and learning experiences at St. Luke as effective and helpful as possible. Let us know how we are doing, and send us an email if you would like to volunteer with Sunday school or the Children's Playtime program. Pastor Bob: pastormckee@gmail.com Emma Mitchell: eemitch95@comcast.net LOOKING FOR A WAY TO GET CONNECTED? Are you looking for a way to connect with the wonderful St. Luke community? St. Luke is looking for you too! We need greeters, ushers, coffee servers, communion assistants, and

altar guild every Sunday. You can serve as often or as little as you like, and training for all positions will be provided. Please contact our church Office Manager, Letty at lettyatstlukechurch@gmail.com or 408-736-9216. ST. LUKE PRAYER CHAIN We have a group of praying people at St. Luke called the Prayer Chain.
