October 2016 Here to Zehr Carmel Christian Church 463 East Main Street, Carmel, IN 46032 317.846.5033 Monday morning I threw my back out and was flat on the floor for most of the day. It s Tuesday and I am in the office this morning thanks to some good muscle relaxers. This experience reminds me how quickly we can go from feeling great to being on the floor in excruciating pain in seconds. How easy we take health and life for granted until we don t have it. I know I will be better by tomorrow but I hope in the future days I will be more appreciative of the things I take for granted. Our church council met last Sunday and when Karl gave us the financial report in which we heard that for the first two months we are above in our projected giving, we all wanted to cheer. Mark Carfanga, our Council chairperson, remarked he couldn t remember a time when we had two months, especially in July and August, when we are such good financial shape as a church. Thank you for your generosity and support of the ministries of our church. Finally, we would love to get the carpet replaced in the fellowship hall this fall. We have $5100 donated and we need $7300. If you could make a donation to our Cut a Rug fund, make your check out to the church and put carpet fund or Cut a Rug fund in the memo line. This Sunday I will continue my sermon series The Energy of Love with my message Loving Beyond Heaven and Hell. I am excited that Brandon Tiek will be singing this Sunday bringing us a couple songs from his new CD. Be Courageous, Pastor Jerry Our church will have a Prayer Wall up for 40 days before the election of our new president of the United States. Why? This year's election is causing anxiety and mistrust. We know neither political party has a monopoly on faith and we have members of both parties in our congregation. Our church wants to be a voice for unity, not division. We are not political, so our Prayer Wall is a place to add your personal prayer to God in your words for your desires for peace and hope for our nation.

Please donate and join the CCC Walkers in this important effort to end hunger one step (or stride or pedal or prayer) at a time by participating in this year's Hamilton County CROP Hunger Walk. Your donation will go towards helping over 1.0 Billion people who lack food and clean water around the world, as well as towards helping (through the Good Samaritan Network) over 27,000 people in Hamilton County who don't know when or how they will get their next meal. When? THIS SUNDAY, October 2nd 1:30 Registration 2:00 Bike, Run, and Walk Start Where? Start and end of all activities at the Carmel City Hall Gazebo How? Walk, run, bike (1.0 and 3.9 mile courses), or participate as a spirit walker To donate online, click CROP HUNGER WALK link at the end of the Midweek or https://www.crophungerwalk.org/hamiltoncoin/team/view/27555/carmel-christian-church Questions? Contact David Sapper (dbsapper@gmail.com) or Mike Coleman (michaelcoleman72@gmail.com) Please join us and other churches and organizations on the Walk (or run or ride)! If you are unable to join us in person, please contribute as a "Spirit Walker" and raise money just like the physical participants for making great strides against hunger in Hamilton County and across the globe. Spirit Walkers can also just donate money directly using the pail on the CROP table. Spirit Walkers should sign the shirt on the display table outside the sanctuary, so that they can be visibly represented during the activities. Bring the whole family! Change of Address Important for ALL Today Martha Ellis is moving to Sunrise Senior Living Center. Her new address is: 12130 Old Meridian Building A Room 107 Carmel, IN 46032 Don't forget to stop by your pantry on the way to church on Sunday!!! This is just a quick reminder of the FOOD DRIVE that is a part of the CROP Walk taking place this weekend. The food will be taken to Angel's Attic in Westfield. Do you realize how many people in Hamilton County are hungry? So many of us just take it for granted that Hamilton County is such an affluent county that no one goes without -- well, that's just a myth. We must take the responsibility of taking care of those who have so much less than we do. There are children and adults who have so little, yet are forgotten. PLEASE pick up a few extra cans or boxes of non-perishable food when you go to the store this week and bring them with you to share!! And remember, it's not only for this week, but a reminder to bring just ONE item each week. We are such a wonderfully giving congregation and we share willingly. God bless!!! Send her a note welcoming her to her new home. October 2nd - Loving Beyond Heaven and Hell October 9th - Loving the Imperfect People in our Families October 16th - Loving the Questions and Doubts of our Faith October 23rd - Loving People of Different Religious Backgrounds Lunch and Fellowship The Disciple Women s Ministry (DWM) will meet at noon on Monday, October 3rd at Dooley O Toole s, 160 East Carmel Drive. Can you imagine being hungry all the time? Not many of us are able to even consider what that would be like. Can you spend a couple of hours (between 8 [or so] to 11 a.m.) sharing your time and ability (you can wash dishes or serve or cook or just smile and be encouraging) to make some Indy eastsiders feel the love? Smiles and words of encouragement are SO important to these folks, so give Mike Ainley a call and let him know you're willing to share your time. (Carpooling can be available so you don't have to drive by yourself.) See you there! The definition of "mission": God's work in the world including our call to accompany others on their journey and to be changed by our mutual partnerships. Wher e do you think Disciples can make a difference to bring healing and wholeness to the world? That is where Mission First comes in. The Christian Church in Indiana will have Mission First! Gatherings across the region in the coming weeks. Here is the on in our area Sunday, October 23 @ Fr anklin Centr al Chr istian Chur ch, Indianapolis, 1:00-3:00 pm Hosts: Gale Stutz and Carolyn Watkins To register send Gale an email galefccc@gmail.com How many times have you been in a store and seen a sign that reads "50% OFF ALL TOYS" or "75% OFF CLEARANCE TOYS"? Since we know that toys are on sale year-round, why don't we take advantage of these sales to make sure that the children at Tuxedo Park Baptist Church and through our Angel Tree have something special at Christmas? If you can pick up just one toy every so often it will make a difference in a child's life. Toys for TPBC can be brought to the church and placed on the Tuxedo Park donation table at anytime. There doesn't have to be a rush right before Christmas to buy full-price items, just remember a child every time you see one of those signs! And stuffed animals are always asked for by our young and older folks - they are comforting and mean so much! (It's just like remembering to buy a can of soup or some pasta each time you go to the grocery for the food pantry!) Thank you so much for your consideration.
