Margaret Jo Cherb, 88, of Beaumont, was Promoted To Glory on August 30, 2018. Born in Mobile, Alabama, to Salvation Army parents she lived in Longview, Tyler, and Amarillo, where she graduated from Amarillo High in 1947. She attended The Salvation Army College in Atlanta, Georgia, graduating as part of the Intercessors Session in 1952 and later studied at Lamar University in Beaumont. She lived in Dallas, where she worked for the Cadillac Division of General Motors. She moved to Beaumont in 1967, where she became the Beaumont Rotary Club Secretary. In 1980, she became the clubs Executive Director until her retirement in 1996. During her long years of service many club members believed Margaret reflected the ideals of Rotary Service Above Self and the Four Way Test: Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned? A longtime Rotarian, Raymand Hawa, once praised Margaret stating, For over 20 years Margaret has been the heart and soul of our club. She has caused us to dream and dare, to grow and prosper. Margaret was a dedicated and faithful soldier of The Salvation Army church until she was 50 years old. To this day she holds a special love for the ministry of The Salvation Army dedicated to helping those in need and ministering the gospel. She is musically gifted with the voice of an angel often singing solos and participating in gospel and Christian radio music programs with her family. She plays a myriad of musical instruments including piano, accordion, baritone, alto and her favorite, the bass drum. She served on The Salvation Army Advisory Board in Beaumont for several years. Margaret has been a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church for the past 38 years where she has served in many ministry positions including choir, prayer counselor, volunteer in administrative ministries and Bible Teacher. She also was a participant on a church mission trip to Macau at the age of 79. She had a passion for International travel and had the privilege of traveling all of her adult life. Margaret was a devoted mother, sister, aunt and daughter to her family whom she loved dearly. Her first love is her Lord and Savior, then her family, friends and neighbors. Margaret had a great love for children and animals all of her life. She is survived by her daughter, Winnie Leviness of Beaumont; five nieces, Debra Durden of Ocala, Florida, Sharon Schillerstrom of Salado, Texas, Sheila Cain of Longmont, Colorado, Vicky Herrin and Susan McKeefer of Plano, Texas; and two nephews, Ricky Beckhart of Alabama and Johnny Cherb of Amarillo, Texas. 2
