Services and Music March 2019
Welcome to Ripon Cathedral Ripon Cathedral is a beautiful, ancient church with a history reaching back to the 7th Century. It is a mother church for the Diocese of Leeds and home for the cathedra (throne) of the Bishop of Leeds. The Cathedral is an active, living Church with a community of Christians who seek to make worship a priority for life and to reach out in service to the wider community. We enjoy welcoming both pilgrims and tourists, hoping that they will capture a glimpse of God s love for them through the witness of this remarkable building and its people. Sung services The Very Reverend John Dobson Dean of Ripon Unless otherwise stated, all services are sung by the boy and/or girl choristers, and the Lay Clerks of the Cathedral Choir. Rehearsals in the Quire The Quire is closed before sung services for the choir and musicians to rehearse without distraction. Therefore, we request that you do not enter the Quire during this time, although you are welcome to listen from the Nave. The Quire opens for services 10 minutes before the start time on weekdays, and 15 minutes before on weekends. Photography and recording Photography, video, and audio recording are not permitted during services. Music sponsors We are very grateful to this month's sponsors, whose donations help maintain the Cathedral's musical tradition and choral foundation. If you would like to sponsor a week of music, become a Music Custodian, or sponsor a chorister, visit www.riponcathedral.org.uk for further information, or contact Margaret Hammond at the Ripon Cathedral Development Campaign by email, margarethammond@riponcathedral.org.uk, or phone 01765 603462. Join the Cathedral Choir The Director of Music, Andrew Bryden, is always happy to meet children and parents considering a choristership. Children who join the Cathedral Choir receive a wonderful musical education, which includes free singing and music theory lessons, a bursary to learn a musical instrument, and payments each term. Children can join the choir from school year 1, and on first becoming a chorister attend only on a Monday afternoon. To discuss joining the Cathedral Choir, contact Andrew Bryden at andrewbryden@riponcathedral.org.uk.
