We Gather in God s Name Processional Call to Continue with Worship Baba Issa Abramaleem Sydney Broadnax Come all who are weary of wealth, of poverty, of power, of struggle, of division Come all who are heavy-laden with too much, with too little, with anxiety, with fear, with anger Come all who have hope for liberation, for peace, for freedom, for the kingdom Hear these words See, I am making all things new. *Hymn of Praise African American Hymnal #566 "Woke Up This Morning With My Mind" Woke up this mornin' with my mind, stayed on Jesus. Woke up this mornin' with my mind, stayed on Jesus Woke up this mornin' with my mind, stayed on Jesus Hallelu, hallelu, hallelujah. Walkin' and talkin' with my mind, stayed on Jesus Walkin' and talkin' with my mind, stayed on Jesus Walkin' and talkin' with my mind, stayed on Jesus Hallelu, hallelu, hallelujah. Call to Confession The Rev. Dr. John Judson Prayer of Confession God, our fears and prejudices run deep. Sometimes we can only see our own point of view. We stick with those who are like us, rarely venturing outside our comfort zones.we do not hear those crying for justice and true

peace. We blame those who are suffering and in need, instead of standing by them. We deny the power of your gospel to unite us with those who are different from us. Lord, give us eyes to see and ears to hear. Open us to new possibilities of life for all of your people, and use us to enact the new life given in Christ. Amen. Assurance of Pardon The Rev. Dr. John Judson *Gloria Patri Blue Hymnal #579 Anthem "Order My Steps" Glen Bruleigh Hope Chancel Choir, Carolyn Kent, Director *Affirmation of Faith From the Belhar Confession The Rev. Thomas H. Priest, Jr. We believe that the church must together come to know the height and the breadth and the depth of the love of Christ. We believe that together we are built up to the stature of Christ, the new humanity. We believe that we must together know and bear one another s burdens, thereby fulfilling the law of Christ. We believe that we are called to admonish and comfort one another; to suffer with one another for the sake of righteousness; to pray together; and together serve God in this world. Scripture Reading: We Listen for God s Word to Us Old Testament Psalms 40:1-11 New Testament 1 Corinthians 1:10-18 Message Elder Dave Bunch Elder Rosy Latimore Elder Stefanie Lewis We Respond to God s Word *Hymn of Preparation Blue Hymnal #439 "In Christ There Is No East or West"

Installation of Moderator and Vice Moderator Call Litany Elder Deborah Fair As many of you as were baptized into Christ have clothed yourself with Christ People: There is no longer Jew or Greek there is no longer slave or free there is no longer male and female for all of you are one in Christ Jesus Lead a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called, making every effort to maintain the unity of the Spirit, in the bond of peace. People: There is one body and one Spirit, just as were called to the one hope of our calling, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all and through all and in all. Call to Discipleship The Rev. Dr. Judy Shipman We are called by God to be the church of Jesus Christ, a sign in the world today of what God intends for all humankind. People: The great ends of the church are the proclamation of the gospel for the salvation of humankind; the shelter, nurture, and spiritual fellowship of the children of God; the maintenance of divine worship; the preservation of the truth; the promotion of social righteousness; and the exhibition of the Kingdom of Heaven to the world. The call of Christ is to willing, dedicated discipleship. Our discipleship is a manifestation of the new life we enter through baptism. Discipleship is both a gift and a commitment, an offering and a responsibility.

Constitutional Questions The Rev. Beth Delaney Stefanie and John, the grace bestowed on you in baptism is sufficient for your calling because it is God s grace. By God s grace we are saved, and enabled to grow in the faith and to commit our lives in ways which serve Christ. God has called you to particular service. Please show your purpose by answering these questions: Who is your Lord and Savior? Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior. Will you be Christ s faithful disciple, obeying his word and showing his love? I will with God s help. Do you welcome the responsibility of this service because you are determined to follow the Lord Jesus, to love neighbors, and to work for the reconciling of the world? I do. Will you serve the people with energy, intelligence, imagination, and love, relying on God s mercy and rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit? I will with God s help. (To the body) Do you, members of the Presbytery of Detroit, confirm the call of God to our sister Stefanie Lewis and brother John Judson as Moderator and Vice Moderator of the Presbytery of Detroit in the service of Jesus Christ? We do. Will you support and encourage them in this ministry? We will.

Installation Prayer The Rev. Beth Delaney Faithful God, in baptism you claimed us; and by your Holy Spirit you are working in our lives, empowering us to live a life worthy of our calling. We thank you for leading Stefanie and John to this time and place. Establish them in your truth, and guide them by your Holy Spirit, that in your service they may grow in faith, hope, and love, and be faithful disciples of Jesus Christ, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory, now and forever. People: Almighty God, in Jesus Christ you called disciples and, by the Holy Spirit, made them one church to serve you. Please bring your Spirit to rule our church, so that we may be joined in love and service to Jesus Christ, who, having gone before us, is coming to meet us in the promise of your kingdom. Amen. Presentation of Symbols of Office Elder Stefanie Lewis to the Rev. Dr. John Judson The Rev. Beth Delaney to Elder Stefanie Lewis Charge & Blessing The Rev. Dr. Allen Timm Stefanie and John, you are installed to service as Moderator and Vice Moderator in the Presbytery of Detroit. Whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God through him. May the God of peace make you holy in every way, and keep your whole being, spirit, soul, and body, free from every fault at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
