ST. MARY OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION Dear Parishioners: On Wednesday of this coming week, I will be departing for a trip with a group, among whom are two of my ordination classmates. We will be away for two whole weeks! I really cannot recall a time since ordination that I have been away from home for such a length of time. It is going to be a little strange! This column will offer reflections from two of our pastoral staff members: Kelly Hassenzahl (Director of Faith Formation) and Barb Hufford (Music Director). I am sure they will provide refreshing perspectives! While I am away, the parish will be in excellent hands with all of our staff working diligently. Liturgically, of course on weekends, Fr. Strebler will be celebrating the Masses (with the exception of Sunday, September 24 at 5:30, when Fr. Ryan Mann will be with us). Please note that there will be a significant temporary adjustment in the weekday Mass schedule during this period. Please consult the Mass Schedule box, in the next column over, to identify on which days there will not be a daily Mass here at St. Mary. For those who would like to take advantage of daily Mass in neighboring parishes, here is a sampling: St. Stephen, West Salem: Mon., Tues., Thurs., Fri. at 8:30 a.m. and Wed. at 7 p.m. St. Agnes, Orrville: Monday through Friday, at 8:30 a.m. Sacred Heart, Wadsworth: Monday through Saturday, at 8 a.m. Additionally, all of the Eucharistic holy hours prayed during the period of September 20-October 4 will be without Exposition. While I believe that parishioners will be fully understanding of my absence, I am not too sure about Vicar the Cat. I may come home to find that the locks on the rectory door have been changed and a new master officially registered. So, far, my promises of bringing back feline-friendly souvenirs have not impressed him in the least! Here is a more complete profile of our new Pastoral Associate, Camille Horvath, who begins here at St. Mary on September 19: Camille most recently served at Ss. Cosmas and Damian Parish in Twinsburg as the parish Faith Formation Administrative Assistant for the past nine years. She was active in parish ministry, facilitating in the areas of Art and Environment, Prayer Shawl, and Rosary Outreach in addition to serving as a Eucharistic Minister, Master Catechist, and Parish Pastoral Council member. Prior to this, she was a substitute teacher at St. Rita Parish and holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from Cleveland State University. Her two adult sons, both graduates of Ohio University, reside in the Dayton area. She and her husband of thirty years moved into the city of Medina this summer. I carry you all in my heart and prayers while I am away! When we reconcile, we move to a new plateau in our relationship where the needs of all parties are heard and respected. In families we can sometimes forgive someone without even speaking. Reconciling is more difficult, for we must involve the one who has hurt us and rebuild trust. It is not always safe or possible to reconcile, but forgiveness is an essential ingredient of the Kingdom of Heaven. Catholic Communication Campaign September 24, 2017 Next week, our second collection is for the Catholic Communication Campaign. This campaign connects people with Christ, here and around the world in developing countries, through the internet, television, radio, and print media. ST. MARY OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION WOOSTER, OH In the News: St. Mary School Growing in Character, Faith and Knowledge The 7th and 8th grade spent the past week discussing how God teaches us to honor the dignity of the human person. They ended the week by researching and presenting a person known for dedicating their life to others in need. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me. (Mathew 25:35). It was a beautiful fall day, so they went outside and used a creative way to present their information.
