PROGRAM FOR RESPONSIBLE ENERGY MANAGEMENT A 4-day program for student groups 6-9 January 207 At Auroville (near Puducherry) Seminar on energy demand and supply side management for students and aspiring change makers To achieve long-term energy security that will enable sustainable and equitable economic growth, India will have to find smart and effective strategies to reduce its current energy consumption and to simultaneously increase its energy production. Combining consistent and large-scale energy efficiency programs with distributed energy generations at the municipality level promises to substantially contribute to India s sustainable Energy Security.
PROGRAM Responsible Energy Management is a 4-day program for college students and freshly graduates using Auroville and its outstanding experience in sustainability and responsible energy management practices for peer-to-peer learning and personal as well as professional capacity building. A learning-in-action program it connects core human values, with system thinking and hands-on work experience. The aim of this program is to expose students to the energy challenges of rural/semi rural India and to get a firsthand experience on energy efficiency practices and the design and installation of a grid interactive solar PV System. Participants will be introduced to national and global energy challenges and sustainable development practices, responsible demand and supply side management for the energy sector. Module : Sustainable Development and Renewable Energy Participants will get a wide introduction into sustainable development issues and good practices and to the global and national renewable energy scenario. This will be held in the form of field visits, interactions with experts and presentations. Topics that will be addressed are: Sustainable Energy Solutions, Climate responsive building technologies, sustainable water management solutions, integrated waste management, urban farming and social enterprise development. Module 2: Energy Conservation & Efficiency Participants will get an exposure to theory and implementation of energy efficiency initiatives. An energy audit will be conducted and an analysis with implementable solutions will be performed. Recommended solutions will be implemented during the program duration itself. Module 3: Solar PV Participants will get a rapid introduction in Solar Photovoltaic technologies, system design and operations. And will implement a kwp Solar PV rooftop installation during the program in order to gain first hand experience and knowledge about the installation process. He held senior management and corporate leadership positions in the global wind energy sector from 996-2009 and has extensive experience in international business. Joerg Zimmerman Joerg is one of the executives of Sunlit Future, a Solar Energy Integrator in Auroville. An engineer in environmental technology, he has a vast experience in project management and technical training. He is currently engaged in expanding the training activities of Sunlit Future and in technical consultancy. Joerg holds a master degree in applied physics from Munich, Germany. Debabrata Sahoo After graduating from the Sri Aurobindo Ashram International Centre of Education in Puducherry, Debabrata worked at the Centre for Scientific Research (CSR), Auroville on various renewable energy projects. Since 20 Debabrata works at Sunlit Future, Auroville where, amongst other things, he has been driving the design, system integration and installation of grid-interactive solar PV plants. He has been instrumental in introducing innovative rooftop solar PV installation practices and has been training installers and maintenance team members while imparting the highest levels of workmanship and safety standards. Martin Scherfler Martin Scherfler is a co-founder of Auroville Consulting. A sociologist and researcher, he has wide experience coordinating educational workshops in areas of sustainability. He is currently engaged in project management of integrated campus development and renewable energy research studies. He holds a Master degree in Sociology from Austria. Nitin Cherian Nitin Cherian has been working with Auroville Consulting for 2.5 years. He has been involved in projects that emphasize on efficient and sustainable methods of energy and water consumption. He has also performed energy and water audits for residences and industries. He has assisted fellow researchers in research studies and publications on sustainable living. He previously worked for 3 years as a Technical Author for a Aerospace Engineering Conglomerate.
REGISTRATION The cost for the workshop is Rs. 33,000 per person inclusive of lunch, dinner, accommodation (on room sharing basis) materials and facilitation for all activities, and all taxes. All meals are vegetarian. Alcohol is not permitted in Auroville guest houses. Registration will be confirmed after receipt of the payment. We cannot refund your payment if you cannot attend for any reason, but you can transfer your registration to another person in writing before 6th January 207.
