I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting. Amen. *HYMN Hosanna, Loud Hosanna No. 203 SCRIPTURE READING Luke 19:29-44 As he approached Bethphage and Bethany at the hill called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples, saying to them, Go to the village ahead of you, and as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks you, Why are you untying it? say, The Lord needs it. Those who were sent ahead went and found it just as he had told them. As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, Why are you untying the colt? They replied, The Lord needs it. They brought it to Jesus, threw their cloaks on the colt and put Jesus on it. As he went along, people spread their cloaks on the road. When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen: Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest! Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, Teacher, rebuke your disciples! I tell you, he replied, if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out. As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it and said, If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace but now it is hidden from your eyes. The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side. They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God s coming to you. (Leader)... The word of God for the people of God. (People)... Thanks be to God. Mission Of the Month FLORIDA SHERIFFS YOUTH RANCH The Youth Ranch is set on 65 naturally beautiful acres. The buildings and facilities available to the youth in residence include: a community center, two cottages, administration building, maintenance/vocational building, livestock pavilion and a high ropes course. Currently the capacity is for 20 boys and girls. With a supportive and caring donor family, the Youth Ranches continue to meet the needs of children and families throughout Florida. The Bradenton/Sarasota campus also offers to the public a Summer Day Camp. Boys and girls ages 5-15 experience many different therapeutic camping activities. Canoeing, archery, swimming and many other recreational activities allow them the opportunity to build basic teamwork and peer communication skills. Additionally, they can spend the week enjoying the beautiful, tranquil outdoor environment. The camp provides an opportunity for Deputy Sheriffs and other Law Enforcement Volunteers to get personally involved with the youngsters to form positive, healthy relationships. To donate to the Mission of the Month, please use the envelope in the pew or go to GIVE online at www.roserchurch.com. BE A KEY PLAYER DONATIONS TOTAL $4385 TO DATE; ONLY $615 TO GO! The Roser Music Department was fortunate to receive 2 significant gifts to the Music Special fund in 2016. The Music Committee has decided to use the gifts toward the purchase of a grand piano whose sound will fill the Sanctuary and whose value will be maintained for generations to come. The seed money is there, but we invite members and friends to consider becoming a KEY PLAYER by donating to the ROSER GRAND PIANO FUND. Our goal is to raise $10,000 to supplement our current funds and cover the cost of purchase and set up of a concert grand. We have a matching donor for the first $5,000 raised. If you would like to help us reach our goal, please indicate grand piano on the memo line of your check and place it in the offering plate or forward to the church office. The COMMUNITY CHURCH MESSENGER 512 Pine Ave PO Box 247 Anna Maria FL 34216 941-778-0414 info@roserchurch.com www.roserchurch.com www.facebook.com/roserchurch If you have been attending the Terrific Tuesday dinners or have attended a reception following a Memorial Service over the past several years, you will have seen an attractive blonde lady in the kitchen area rushing around to make sure all is in order with the food preparation. That energetic person is Shannon McConnel. More recently an equally attractive brunette, Laurie Higgins, has joined her with her culinary skills. We decided to feature Shannon and Laurie and the way they use their talent to support our church. Below is the response, I received from Shannon explaining how she started volunteering. Hopefully, her story will encourage you to see how you might use your talent. Marcia Powers, Membership Committee Be Inspired! We were raised Methodist where I acquired my love for pot luck dinners. I attended Catholic school where we volunteered in the Christian community. Throughout the years I have volunteered for many organizations and events. Hospitality at Roser allows me to volunteer and supplement tithing with my love of food and fellowship. My first volunteer job at Roser was in the pantry. I met a lot of the good women at Roser as well as Charles (Roser Facilities Administrator). From there Ann Jones taught me hospitality. I was especially excited about taking care of hospitality for the memorials because I was truly moved at a friends memorial a few years before. I was impressed by Roser s compassion and generosity and was over the moon when they asked me to chair the Hospitality Committee. I had two co-chairs, Betty Roark and Eileen Micho, that I loved dearly and I had so much fun serving with them. Through them I ve learned so much. It has been rewarding. Then there was Terrific Tuesday. We have prepared meals from scratch for as many as 200. Hard work, but lots of fellowship and good meals before heading off to the different learning groups. There is a group for every member of the family. Laura Higgins (i.e. McGovern, jack of all trades) has selflessly offered to be my co-chair for 2017 /2018. Together we have brainstormed or fantasized having so many hospitality volunteers that we are considered a social club complete with meetings or socials often. I would like to thank everyone at Roser for their support, encouragement, participation and for giving me a Christian family that care and comfort. I would encourage new members to get involved. There is a job that is perfect for you!
