IN loving memory of Leora Louise Gericke Messman May 9, 1913 July 18, 2010 Processional Immanuel Lutheran Church July 21, 2010 1:30 pm Hymn Be Still My Soul LSB 752 Invocation: Pastor: In the name of the Father and of the +Son and of the Holy Spirit. Remembrance of Baptism: Pastor: In Holy Baptism Leora was clothed with the robe of Christ s righteousness which covered her sin. St. Paul says: Do you not know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Congregation: We were buried with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. If we have been united with Him in His death, we will certainly also be united with Him in His resurrection, Salutation and Prayer: Pastor: The Lord be with you. C: And with your spirit. Pastor: O God of grace and mercy, we give thanks for Your loving-kindness to Leora and to all Your servants who, having finished their course, now rest from their labors. Grant that we also may be faithful unto death and receive the crown of eternal life; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

The Psalm: Psalm 121. Spoken by all. I lift up my eyes to the hills- Where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip - He who watches over you will not slumber; Indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD watches over you The LORD is your shade at your right hand; The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD will keep you from all harm - He will watch over your life; The LORD will watch over your coming and going Both now and forevermore. The Epistle Lesson: Philippians 4:4-13 Pastor: This is the Word of the Lord. Congregation: Thanks be to God. The Gospel Lesson: John 10:11-16 and 28-29 Pastor: This is the Gospel of the Lord. Congregation: Praise to You, O Christ. The Apostles Creed: Spoken by all who share this confession. I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. Hymn: The King of Love My Shepherd Is LSB 709

Message: A New Heaven and a New Earth Revelation 21:1-4 The Prayer of the Church The Lord s Prayer. Nunc Dimittis. Song of Simeon. Pastor: I am the resurrection and the life, says the Lord. He who believes in Me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in Me will never die. Congregation: Lord, now You let Your servant go in peace; Your word has been fulfilled. My own eyes have seen the salvation which You have prepared in the sight of every people, a light to reveal You to the nations and the glory of Your people Israel. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen. Pastor: I am the resurrection and the life, says the Lord. He who believes in Me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in Me will never die. Concluding Collect. Pastor: Lord God, our Shepherd, You gather the lambs of Your flock into the arms of Your mercy and bring them home. Comfort us with the certain hope of a reunion with those who die in the faith and at last a joyful resurrection to everlasting life. Into Your hands, O Lord, we commend Leora, trusting in Your mercy; through Your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord. Benediction. Pastor: The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord lift up His countenance on you and +give you peace. Pastor: Let us go forth in peace and take our sister to her place of rest. Congregation: In the name of the Lord. Amen. Closing Hymn: How Great Thou Art LSB 801

Committal will follow in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Homer Fire and Rescue Squad. Officiant: Organist: Rev. Don Ehlers Mary Ann Rohl Pallbearers: George Gerdes, Jerry Messman, Paul Messman, Steve Messman, Roger Sy and Alan Wienke. CHRIST HATH ABOLISHED DEATH AND HATH BROUGHT LIFE AND IMMORTALITY TO LIGHT THROUGH THE GOSPEL. Affliction s flame blazed closer. I abandoned my tenuous shelters of pride, intellect, my self-sufficiency. Tongues of flame engulfed them; they were gone. Now, hopelessly alone, I utter a desperate prayer. The walls of flame begin to part. Through smoke-teared eyes I see a single path emerge, burned carefully through the wastelands of my life. Ashes behind, eternity ahead, I stumble toward God s call, to be held safe in his loving arms. K.F. Sanders
