GRAPEVINE JUNE 2015 Father s Day June 21 TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH 612 Main Street Westbrook, ME 04092 Karen Indorf, Pastor Bonnie Wright, Editor Phone (207) 854-5653 Phone (207) 854-5653 Email pastor@trinitywestbrook.com Email office@trinitywestbrook.com Summer Hours of Worship begins June 7-9:00 am PASTOR S REFLECTIONS On the first Pentecost, a great wind ushered in tongues of fire that rested on the heads of the disciples, filling them with the Holy Spirit. Peter stood up to preach, quoting the Old Testament prophet Joel s words about young and old, sons and daughters seeing visions and dreaming dreams. I would echo those words of Joel. In these challenging times for the Christian church in the northern hemisphere, we all need to be seeing visions and dreaming dreams inspired by the Holy Spirit. Things happen when we do. Our monthly Rejoicing Spirits worship began with a vision. The Climb Aboard the Food Train event just raised $5000 and collected 150 large boxes of food for the Westbrook Food Pantry. That event started as a dream. When the old sanctuary windows badly needed to be replaced, the beautiful new creations that have been installed started as a vision to honor persons in our faith community who have died. The dreams and visions of the Holy Spirit are powerful. When we pray Come Holy Spirit we are inviting strong winds to blow among us and fire to ignite our spirits. Complacency and apathy will be blown away. Our hearts will be set on fire. Young and old will see visions and dream dreams. Will you join me in praying Come Holy Spirit? Will you share with me your dreams and visions? Come Holy Spirit! Pastor Karen

Farewell to Ken and Dorothy at Panda Garden The Thinkers The Engineers and Conductors CLIMB ABOARD THE FOOD TRAIN!!!

The Climb Aboard the Food Train project was a huge success! We raised over $5,000 in monies and 150 large boxes of food. Thank you to all who helped with this city-wide project. There is a great need in Westbrook and the money and food raised will make a big difference in fighting hunger in our community. I Heard It Through the Grapevine! REPORT FROM SOCIAL MINISTRY COMMITTEE COME CLIMB ABOARD THE FOOD TRAIN Thank you to those who helped support the project by donating food, money or your time. We re going to participate this year in the annual Westbrook Together Days. It is being held on Friday, May 29 from 4-9pm and on Saturday 10am-9pm at Riverbank Park. We are going to have a vendor booth in the park and we ll be promoting the Food Train event that was held earlier. We ll be acknowledging the participants and hope to be able to present a check to the director of the Food Pantry, Jeanne Rielly, and have information and handouts of the programs that T.L.C. is involved with like the Community meal, Rejoicing Spirits, Paul s P.A.L.S., Senior Saints, Bible studies and Sunday School. We will need some volunteers to help with manning the booth for different shifts, No experience required. This should be easy and less labor intensive and a chance to solicialize and interact with visitors to the festival. We will have some free handouts and give-aways for all ages. The Together Days parade has not been announced yet and we are not sure if we ll be able to participate in that as well. We will keep you updated. NURSERY NEWS Spring cleaning has been done for the Nursery and a fresh coat of paint and a new rug are the final items on the list to complete the project. We would like to respectfully request that no food or drinks be brought into the nursery. The change of season also brings with it ants and we would like to avoid the "invitation" for them come and visit. We encourage use of the Nursery and welcome volunteer Nursery attendants during the worship services. During fellowship time we would appreciate that children are not left unsupervised and that the Nursery is returned to its' original condition with toys and books returned to their respective places when done. Your help and/or volunteering would be greatly appreciated. FROM EDUCATION COMMITTEE Sunday School will have a special celebration at IHOP for breakfast on May 31 at 9:00 am. Sunday School children and confirmation students are welcome. See Doug for more information. VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL will be held July 13 thru July 17 at Trinity.

The mother replied, Because white is the color of happiness, and today is the happiest day of her life. The child thought about this for a moment then said, So why is the groom wearing black?
