Page 3 Clergy Corner Last week in this Clergy Corner I wrote about today s feast of Easter and how our April 26-28 Festival de la Prairie will give us an opportunity to bring the joy of Easter into our annual parish fair. Included in this current bulletin you will find a complete listing of all our fair events and schedules. In the meanwhile, I would like to emphasize just how basic is this feast of Easter to our Christian faith. Almost all Christian denominations have two basic beliefs about Christ Jesus. First of all, we believe that Jesus is the divine Son of God. Secondly, we believe it is through His life, death and resurrection that Jesus has won for us freedom from sin and the gift of eternal life. Now, notice what happens to these two basic beliefs if Jesus did not truly rise from the dead. On one hand, the resurrection of Jesus is the ultimate proof that Jesus is divine. And if He did not rise from the dead, how can we claim He had divine power to begin with? On the other hand, we believe it is through His life, death and resurrection that Jesus won for us salvation and eternal life. Once more, if Jesus did not rise from the dead, then the life, death, resurrection pattern of salvation is incomplete. We have no reason to believe that He won for us freedom from sin and we certainly have little reason to believe that He could deliver His promise of eternal life for us. As St. Paul says in 1 Corinthians 15 If Christ has not been raised, then empty too, your faith and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is vain; you are still in your sins. But we believe what St. Paul believed. In the words of the angels at the tomb Why do you seek the living one among the dead? He is not here, but he has been raised. (Luke 24) Happy Easter. Alleluia!
